The Incredibly Wandering Thread (V1)

Pretty much, because Challenge forum already has a DCC where we talk about what challenges we're doing and such. So the Wandering Thread is pretty useless in there. XD;
I think the New User's Hangout pretty much takes the place of a DCC here. I consider it one, at least.

We need more new members to post in here. Me and Larry are old men, so we don't really count. lol :[ Anna is an old woman.
Thx for acknowledging my gender. Not many people do. ^^;
I'm only old in forum years~

I used to be afraid of it. :x

Yeah, but this thread isn't full of people asking where everything is. XD idk

Also Syddy, if this place ever invades your dear Challenge thread, make a challenge of how long you can keep it active there, yes? :3

...Larry move it back RIGHT NOW. lol jk I'd fail that challenge. XD;

Oh look, we're staying on topic!
While here, all new members can post to be greeted by others, and chat with fellow members. It's a nice way to start making some friends, and break the ice, because PC is rather large. This is definitely the place to start out. :D However, it's also recommended that you post your own individual introduction thread, rather than just introducing yourself in here.

You can also feel free to ask questions here, but before you go posting around like crazy, you might want to check out the links below. They may answer a lot of your questions~.
In a nutshell, the New User's Hangout is a thread for new users to somewhat test the waters of PC; see what we have to offer. While many times they're just posting an introduction, a lot of new members actually get quite a few initial posts by just speaking to the regulars that happen to come by said thread, as well as getting a few general questions answered. New members also get to see how awesome and friendly we are, and old members get to make friends with some potentially awesome people before anyone else. It's a pretty nice idea we've had going here in NU/W for quite a few years. :P

It just had always seemed chaotic to me so I did not bother with it.

Now I am trying to keep up and make sure everyone in there gets properly welcomed because most don't make threads and it is sad not to be welcomed.

*coughwesternvoicecough* Well I'll be, I did not know that! :)

Actually, I've always thought that, since everytime I visit there, it's really all I see there and stuff. People say hello, and that they're new, and you never really hear a peep out of them again. I'm also a lottle scared to go there, because I think I'm not allowed to. I mean, I know I can, but it's just this weird thing with me that thinks that I'mm come off too intimidating and stuff, or something like that. :(

And you're honestly right, it gets chaotic in there veeeeeery quick. We used to keep the thread very moderated, but with a board like New Users / Welcome, you have to be careful that you're not coming off as overly intimidating. :x So we cut back some time ago... and by we, I mainly mean me these days. Haha.

Even so, I think I'm going to restart the thread sometime soon with a clean slate... and perhaps explain a little bit more what it's for. Just some future plans I've got in my back pocket. :] Since you're a regular here, I'd love to hear some feedback?

I welcome people here! If I see a new thread come in only, though. I wouldn't want to post in all of those threads that I haven't posted yet. xD

I try to reply to people that have no posts in their welcome threads. I usually do it on my alt though, haha.

And yes, you should reboot the NUH. :] It's mod spring cleaning~!

If there's feedback you're looking for, one thing I've noticed sometimes lately are those introduction threads which are like "Hi, I'm new!" Now I'm someone who likes to elaborate on my posts when greeting people, to show to these new people that we have things in common, so that you're not alone for anything (except maybe ROM hacking :P). When you see people who post something just small, and not even elaborating on the little things, such as say a favourite Pokemon, then I think it just defeats the purpose of making an entire thread for just that. It makes me feel unconfortable to just reply to threads like these as just "Welcome to PC!" I think that it's a simple and justified greeting to use, I just don't feel comfortable using that.

Also on a completely unrelated note Hiidoran, why you no use Heatran anymore? D:

I think it's be a great idea to reboot it. I mean, I don't think most of the non-newbies know quite what it's for anymore, since the first post doesn't quite coincide with what actually goes on in the thread.

When I reply... you guys can probably tell... I totally turn up the friendly-and-helpful. xD

Oh and when I see posts like what Alternative described I guess I try to prompt the OP with a few questions so others can welcome with elaboration. :3

Ooooh, that really irks me too. :| I mean, why would you even bother making an introduction thread at all if you didn't want to at least say a little something about yourself? But once again, closing all those or even making a rule discouraging it would also discourage a lot of new members from creating threads here at all. With rules regulating content like that, we become more intimidating. I'm not trying to say that I'm against new rules, as I've elaborated on some and added at least one in my stay as the board's moderator... but I do walk on eggshells for a purpose. I've also had to give my fair share of infractions. :\

However! You can try my more passive method of addressing this. Ask questions.

When you see a blase introduction, feel more than free to ask them questions like how they found this place, what they're interested in, or even what their favorite Pokémon is. While you can't really reply to this, they will, and that opens up more room for others members to welcome them and bounce off that. :]
Anna totally ninja'd me. ;;

...and my theme is changed because Sydian forces me willingly into awesome collaborations. :]

He's busy being sexy with me, if it's not obvious. >:o

When I was really active in this section, I tried posting in there, but...just no. XD It even confused me, so I just left it alone.

Deny it all you want, honey. You love our collabs.

Forces willingly... contradiction much? xD

How many times am I gonna say it: I am a pirate not a ninja >:( Nah I don't really care.

Hiidoran do we have some sort of... Thread Creation Guidelines somewhere that says "when you create an intro, say something like: why're you here, what's your first game, etc"?

But Larry makes a sexy Zekrom! AND PETILIL IS THE BEST OUT OF GEN V TYVM.

Careful with that keyboard of yours Syd, or I'll have to report you for being off-topic. :P

I have to agree with Anna though. Something along the lines of a "things you can put in an introduction" thread would be nice to those who have never created one before, and gives you something to go off on, instead of just a small whim.

Also just something random. Methinks there should be a "You greet people, LIKE A BAWS!" emblem or something along those lines.

Wait, are you suggesting that or asking if there is one?

Currently, there is no written regulation on what can/can not go in your introductory thread other than it has to be at least four words and 25 characters, it cannot be blatantly on the wrong topic (a trade request thread, for example), and it certainly can't advertise.

Although, if they actually went through the trouble of making an introduction and then kinda just threw in a link to a fan site they created or whatnot, then I usually just remove the link and words that I considered advertising. :]
