The Nintendo DSi Discussion Thread

Speaking of that browser, for anybody who may have imported the system, how does it run?
Go to the shop download opera for free and you have it! Also because of that feature any new game you get for ds make sure you hae your countries game version as it wont work on dsi. That thing is frikin region locked to to the built in internet. GAH!

Oh lol im guessing a bit faster then gba cart internet browser or the same speed.

DSi is pretty cool guy, eh, has no GBA slot, AND DOSENT AFRAID OF ANYTHING

I don't understand the reason for owning a DSi... the internet browser is Opera, and most likely will do about as good (if not less) than the Wii's browser. I have an HTML browser on my Dare and it does almost the same amount of stuff except fun flash. I don't see the need for a Camera on a Nintendo gaming device because... hell everything has a camera these days. Again my phone has a 3.3 megapixel camera and i own 7.1 camera and at what point am i going to be playing my DS and think to myself i need a picture of the room I'm currently sitting in? Finally, the lack of a GBA port saddens me, it means that we've finally and completely moved on from its Gameboy predecessors. I still pull out my GBA SP to play classic GB games. Backwards compatibility is something that is very important to me as a long time gamer. I've amased a great amount of games over my 19 years of life, and i want to be able to play them all on my most current systems. Is that unreasonable? Not all systems last forever. My gamecube broke 6 months before the Wii came out, i'm assuming my PS2 will blow up if i use it again (thus i have a PS3), and the DSi is just a stupid half step between the DS and the next big handheld from Nintendo. It's going to be as unnecessary as the GBA Micro (at least here in america) for the real gamer anyways. The casual gamer might actually like having and mp3 playing DS... sadly...

Oh, If any Kingdom Hearts Fan in this disscussion, Well in Japan Either Nintendo, or Square-Enix is planing to release a Nintendo DSi Limited Edition Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, and a Bundle with 358/2 Days.
This kills me. T_T; I obviously am not a fan of the DSi but... but I still really regret not ever getting the Chain of Memories-branded GBA SP, so I kind of really want a KH-branded DS. I'd much prefer a Lite but... well, I'll see what the design is. xD; I may just end up getting a DSi though. D:

I know what u mean.
If the design isnt that well as you think are you gonna get it?

DSi to overrated. They should of just left the DS as it is, and make a new Nintendo Handheld system. Thats my opinion tho

You should probably refrain from posting like that since your post only seems to be advertising. It is nice how they've lowered their price by $50 though.
The DSi is apparently only $180. It must be more expensive through Play-Asia since you are importing it.

Yeah, exactly. The website that was mentioned had their starting price at $300 for preorders. Many other websites were the same but practically all of them have lowered their prices to around $250 now.

This is probably a stupid idea but I feel like getting a sticker and placing it where the outside camera goes onto my DS Lite just to fool some people. XD

If the design isn't tasteful or nice, no, I won't get it. :| It'll cost me an arm and a leg to import (with the fastest shipping as well since I insist on playing 358/2 right away) so... augh. x_x

Played my friends DSi camera for a bit. Fun, but... well, that's it really :/

Seeing how he's still using his Lite to play games, I'm guessing DSi wasn't a hit for him.

Is that so? I'm curious to know if there's a reason for that. Do games look better on the smaller screen or something?

Its more to do with him feeling bad about lining up to buy it, the fact he had high expectations for it pre-release and the cost of the DSi VS his monthly living expenses.

In other words, he regrets his purchase to a point he doesn't want to touch it.
He's also waiting for the price on the second-hand market to go up, so he probably wants to keep it clean.
Though I highly doubt it'll go up...

There's nothing wrong with redesigns. The problem was when the handheld was first announced and a lot of gaming media was calling it the DS 2 or the DS' successor. It's not. It's just redesign. It's like the Game Boy Micro. - Which was also seen as the next Game Boy for some stupid reason.

So, if you don't like it or don't want it, then don't buy it. You're not missing anything.

I don't want a new DS just yet, so I'm glad we didn't get one. I think the DSi is useless if you already have a lite. I think I'll be able to stick with my lite and skip a couple of games that allow you to put your face in the game or a couple of good DSiWare games.

This isn't JUST a redesign though. With the Micro, you weren't missing out on anything. If you didn't get one, you still had access to everything Nintendo had put out up to that point anyway. It's not the same way with the DSi. I think of it kind of like the DS1.5 than a DS2, or even a simple redesign.

Ouch, fair enough. :( He should probably just bite the bullet and sell it now; that really sucks.

Well, I'm not missing out on anything until something worth while is announced. The DSiShop is cool, but I don't think that's enough. I'm pretty sure the camera does not do motion. So, really all you can do is take a still picture of your face to put in the game. It doesn't use its own game card. Still the same game cards that the DS lite uses, so I'm guessing that a lot of games will still work on the DS lite.

It's a regular DS (lite), plus a couple of extra things. To me, its like how there's various levels to the 360 and PS3. It's like a premium DS.

And Nintendo thinks so too, since we're not even going to get the system until late 2009 here because there's no point.
