The athlon is a feature exclusive to HG/SS. It allows players to pit their Pokemon up against other Pokemon in several competitions. These range from a Snowball throwing competition to a block smashing contest. There are many other fun competitions such as the Disc Catch event and a Relay Run. Full list here

Do you like the Pokèathlon? Do you hope it gets brought back in a future game? What's your favorite and least favorite event? What Pokemon did you find yourself using the most? Do you think it's weird how that Sunkern, of all Pokemon, can achieve maximum stars in all categories?

I enjoyed the Pokèathlon, it was a nice side event that is quite time consuming to get all high scores and I do hope that it gets brought back in a future game, I mean the Platinum Frontier was also brought back in HG/SS so there's no reason why this shouldn't be. :D My favorite was probably the ring push and the block smashing. Using the right Pokemon wasn't hard, you just chose something with a lot of power. :P My least favorite is probably the snowball game or the goal game, I could never do them. ;; I probably used Snorlax the most since it had maximum power and stamina.

Oh yes I love Pokeathlon. I specifically remember going on my HG just for the sheer purpose of doing this. Favorite event was definetly the Hurdle Dash. That one was a lot of fun and I won it most of the time so that always makes it more enjoyable XD. Least fav was probably goal roll.... Never have won at that event sadly. I always found the Pokemon too hard to control. Didn't really ever purposely train my Pokemon for events, though I have given them a speed drink or two or something like that.

I enjoy certain events but otherwise I don't do the POKeATHLON often. If I do, it's for the acquisition of Evolution Stones seeing how they everything but common in HGSS.

Of the events the Brick Break, Sprint and the Hurdle Dash are my favorites.

Also I have a Shiny SUNKERN and he is far from the master of all stats. Lol.

I really enjoyed the Pokeathlon; it gave me something to do other than battling since the minigames were fun.

I liked Block Smash, Ring Drop, Disc Catch and Snow Throw because I tend to score high in all 3 events. I wasn't fond of Lamp Jump; my Pokemon kept crashing into each other and time usually ran out for me before I got a high score.

I use 3 random Pokemon for all 5 categories, even my in-game team in some cases.

And yeah, I kinda find it strange that Sunkern would have 5 stars in each stat (but only 1 out of 5 is filled normally, so that's a balancer I guess)

Getting "free" items with Athlete Points is neat too.

OMG I've become addicted to it lol :D Plus my character has built up quite a reputation in it now lol :)

As to whether it gets brought back I'm not sure - I tend to like each thing they have every game, so I think if they bring it back I might miss out on whatever new contest they're planning :)

I don't have a least favourite I genuinely like them all :) I'd say my most favourite would be Hurdle Dash; Lamp Jump; Block Smash; Circle Push and Disc Catch :)

I tend to play to the strengths of all pokémon in my box, but the ones in my party I tend to use most to get them more medals haha :)

I enjoyed the Pokeathlon a lot more than I did the contests from other games. It was the only side event that I actually went out of my way to attempt more than once or twice, because I actually had fun doing it.

My favorite events are probably Block Smash and Relay Run. I can usually get at least 15 laps on Relay Run with ease, and I think my record was somewhere around 19 laps. I didn't really use any Pokemon in particular when participating, but I know that at one point I did the event a few times with Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres.

It would be nice to see the Pokeathlon return in a future game, but they seem to be trying new things for every release (Super Contests, Musicals, Movie Studio), so I wouldn't expect to see it in any other games, unless we get a remake of a remake in about a decade.

I'm going to be honest here, I have no clue as to what the Pokeathlon is. It seemed like it would be something like the contests, or at least to the nature of non-battling, which I've never really cared for. Thus, I've never tried it. Tbh, I'm not even sure what route it's on, or whether it's that one in Goldenrod.

I was never really good at most Pokeathlon courses. My best would probably be Stamina where I have a signature Pokemon for that course - my Miltank.

My fave games were probably Ring Drop and Relay Run cos I had fun with them.

But it worth playing if you want some rare evolution items like King's Rock and evolution stones.

It is kinda funny that Sunkern, while having the weakest stats of any Pokemon, has five stars in all performance categories. I like laughed at that.

Anyways, I often trained my Pokemon too much to care about the Pokeathlon but it was a nice change from the contests in previous games.

I really enjoyed the PokeAthelon, it was a great little extra that broke the main story up a bit for me. It was especially fun dominaitng the brick smash with my Typhlosion and the hurdle jumps were a breeze with Articuno. Using legendaries isn't cheating is it? x] I think really a Pokemon can be good at any skill, with sunkern I think this applies too, I mean if trained right I'm sure it can prove to be powerful -- even powerful enough to smash bricks. (Maybe it thrusts itself up into the air and then slams itself into the bricks breaking them?) Although, it does sounds a bit wacky to have a sunkern with 5-star strength or 5-star skills in every catergory.

I actually liked it as a change from the Frontier, all the battle type things. I don't think they should bring it back though because I don't think I would enjoy it any more in another game, I think it's fine being just a HGSS exclusive for me.

Out of all of the 'side-events' in the gaming series (Contests, Musicals etc.) the Pokeathlon is easily my favourite out of all of them. Mainly 'cause it requires skill on the part of the player in the moment, instead of simply hours and hours of berry feeding/scarf sashaying. Obviously that's still a part of the Pokeathlon, but I liked how it wasn't the be-all-and-end-all. The integration of the DS' touch pad was really well done and the whole thing is an example of a side-event done well.

As for favourites, I liked the Hurdle Dash, the Relay Run and the Block Smash. I managed to excel in those whenever I tried them out. The Speed contest in general was always my go-to one, as well, as my team had a lot of fast critters in it. (Helloooooo, Aerodactyl! :D)
