I always thought Pignite/Emboar were inspired by wrestling/wrestlers? The fighting type makes sense to me in that context.
That's not to say I wouldn't have preferred a different typing.

I definitely prefer the whole Blaziken line to Infernape's. Not crazy about Emboar, but I would still rank this line higher on my list than Infernape's because I like the first stage evolution of the Unova starters much better than Chimchar. Tepig I think was super cute.
I get the feeling that incineroar may have been a fire fighting type, but got changed to fire dark because they had done the latter 3 times before.

Incineroar does not exist to me as I dislike the design. Torracat is the final evolution to me now 😅
They seriously ruined the final evo of litten as far as I'm concerned.
