Tackle is weak coming from the line's poor physical attack stat, but once Metapod is allowed to evolve immediately, Confusion and a powder move go a long way for the player early on.

It's evolution is a decent, but risky, choice against Brock.

Upon evolution if allowed immediately, it can learn Confusion, allowing it to strike through Brock's Pokémon with dismal special stats if you did not pick Squirtle or Bulbasaur as your Starter.

Not my fav butterfly Pokémon, but it's still a pretty good one.

It has the Compound Eyes Ability, which is very useful for increasing the odds of stealing rare items from wild Pokémon if it knows the move Thief.

I used Butterfree a few times during my Gen 7 playthroughs, as it finally got to learn Air Slash.
