Usually we vote up the moth and butterfly-inspired pokemon like beautifly, dustox, venomoth, butterfree, their real world counterparts are cool, so I think we could put Mothim in this category too.

I have always liked the idea of branch evolutions, and think it's also interesting when you have the gender mechanic as a factor that can give you entirely different pokemon

I also like branch evolutions, provided that they're done right. The same goes for cross-gen evolutions, Megas, regional forms, and Paradox Pokemon.

Good question. For its design, I think I'd take inspiration from Winx Club, and make the Mothim evo's wings look like those from the Winx in their Enchantix forms.

With Mothim in the hall of fame now, the next pokemon up is another bug combee. I like Vespiquen, but could go either way on the pre-evolution.

Male combee are also very common to find with the honey mechanics in gen 4. It's annoying, and the chances of a female showing up are 1/8.

That is a major OOOOF my friend. To make matters worse, combee only has like 4 moves. Gust, sweet scent, bug bite, and bug buzz starting in black/white 2 of all things.
