I've always compared Mienshao to Medicham. Although I prefer Mienshao because of its high base stats and I love reckless. It feels good to use a high risk high reward pokemon.

One of the reasons I love Unova so much is that has great representation of my favorite pokemon type- dragons. There's the Axew and Deino line, the Tao trio, even Druddigon, one of the weaker entries isn't shabby. This gargoyle dragon has very good attack and three great abilities. While it is a slow mon, it also has solid defenses to take a hit. I like this grouchy dragon, and will give it an up vote.

Cool typing, and evolved into a great tank. The inspiration behind this line is also interesting. It's based on Golem folklore, particularly the Golem of Prague legend.

According to legend during the Renaissance a rabbi and his friends were trying to find a way to keep everyone safe during a time of persecution and upheaval, and made a supernatural creature out of clay from the Moldova river, a golem who would come whenever it was called upon to help the community with tasks and perform miracles that saved people from dying.

I think maybe they didn't make the original Marowak a ghost dual type, because they wanted to keep the ghost typing really special, like they did with dragons, so they only allowed one line in Kanto to have it, gastly.

Something I find curious about ghost pokemon is that according to the pokedex entries many of them were human once. The impression given is that sometimes people who die can turn into ghost pokemon. But at the same time ghost pokemon don't seem to be truly ghosts of dead people either. They seem like they are still alive, they can eat, breed, hold items, leave footprints, experience various status conditions. I know they have to go with the mechanics of the universe, but maybe they're closer to yokai than actually ghosts.
