    With the release of Thor in US cinemas today, the summer movie season has officially begun!* Whether it be Cars 2 or Paranormal Activity 3 or Pirates 4, or Harry Potter 7 Part 2 or even a film that isn't based on a sequel, there should be something to suit even the most divergent film tastes this summer.

    Essentially, the point of this thread is to act as a general chit-chat for the entire season. Discussions about any of the big blockbusters coming out (or the smaller indie films, if that's more your scene) are most welcome here, as are comparisons between films you've seen, general recommendations, reviews, the lot!

    If you want to make a thread about a specific film in particular, you're more than welcome to do so, but be aware that it may not get the activity you anticipate. If you do make a thread and want it to be added to the list below, send me a PM/VM and I'll do so. All films are welcome for discussion here, even if they have threads elsewhere, but here are a list of film-specific threads so far:

    If unanswered, some of these may become victim to the 30-Day Revival Rule, so I'm going to waive it for these specific threads. Feel free to revive them if you want!

    I think that's everything. Sorry if this is tl;dr... so let's get to it, then!

    *(Detractors may argue with this, given that Fast Five was released last week and even Thor was released in certain parts of the world a few weeks ago, but I DON'T CARE!)

    I watched Fast Five a couple of days ago.

    Seeing as I have been a personal fan of the Fast and Furious franchise, I couldn't really wait for Fast Five to be released. The strongest aspect of this movie was the choice of characters, or maybe the awesome-kick-ass cars. Can't decide.

    The Hangover: Part II
    should be interesting. The prequel was hilarious; I was literally slapping my knee during most of the movie.

    I want to watch Thor, but I need someone I know to watch it first and see if it's worth it. It was released in my country today, I think.

    Did anyone see Thor yet?

    I'm hopefully going to see Fast Five soon :D

    As for the new Harry Potter, I'll be waiting until it comes out on DVD so I can watch part 1 and part 2 together. Makes for a better experience.

    I saw Thor and I didn't think it was all that great. It's not my kind of movie, really, but I went with friends - it was either Thor or Something Borrowed. :/ They seemed to think it was bad enough to be entertaining and I guess it at least keep me awake. Natalie Portman was in it (now there's a whole new topic: why do good actors do bad movies?) and she overacted everything. Nothing in the story was a surprise. Very typical of superhero movies.

    I don't mean to slam it so much. It had very pretty effects. It's just that it could have been done a lot better. They had Kenneth Branagh directing for goodness sake. But yeah, if you like superhero movies I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Might not feel like it's the best of the bunch, and I'm pretty sure it's not, but it's worth seeing as a popcorn movie.

    Anyone looking forward to the new Winnie The Pooh movie comming out on July 15? That movie needs enough attention!

    I am looking forward to seeing Hangover 2 as well as Transformers 3 this summer!

    I think its a pretty lackluster summer movie season this year. Nothing I'm super hyped up to see (closest is maybe Super 8).

    Other than that Pirates 4 and HP7ii.

    So... anyone gone out and seen Pirates then? It's made $35 million in the US alone, so far, so I imagine at least SOME people on PC have. There's no need to be shy! We'll judge you forever, but feel free to come forward and give your opinions! :D

    I have heard somewhat mixed reviews, a few people said they loved it, and yest others said it was downright horrible. :/ So, I'll just have to see for myself I guess.

    Nothing that's coming out this summer looks that good besides some not so popular titles that I can't be bothered to look up right now. I'll most likely end up seeing Pirates of the Caribbean, The Hangover, and Harry Potter since I've seen the previous movies and I might as well continue. Besides that though I'm not too excited for this summer's movie selection.

    There's a handful of Summer movies that I'd like to see, but will probably only go to watch a few of them (the theaters are expensive these days!). Just to list a few that I looked up from Move Insider would be:

    • X-Men: First Class
      [*] Super 8
      [*] Green Lantern
      [*] Transformers: Dark of the Moon
      [*] Monte Carlo
      [*] Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows: Part II
      [*] Winnie the Pooh
      [*] Captain America: The First Avenger
      [*] Cowboys and Aliens
    ...and that's about it. This Summer really doesn't have that great of a lineup in my opinion. At least not for the big, blockbuster movies anyway. Out of the above listed though, I'm probably going to actually go and see X-Men: First Class or Super 8, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, and the final chapter in Harry Potter. I've been anticipating the former two for awhile now. As for the rest, I'll watch those when they come out in DVD and Blu-ray.

    I already went to see Fast Five the day of its release, and I must admit I was heavily pleased.

    This thread is US biased D:<

    I am seeing Pirates of the Caribbean for a friends birthday in a few weeks so I look forward to it :D Harry Potter and X-Men are two others that I will try and see too as I have watched all the previous installments. Transformers doesn't really appeal to me for some reason.

    EDIT: I might now be seeing Hangover 2 instead of Pirates as the first Hangover was just the best *convincing time*

    I saw Pirates today. It was entertaining. Wasn't the best, wasn't the worst, just more Johnny Depp doing his thing and that's enough to make it worth seeing. Exactly what you expect from a summer blockbuster.

    I'll see Harry Potter because I've gone this far and my friends will see it. I'm hoping it will be better than the low expectations I have because of the hype (I always assume something is bad if it gets a lot of hype).

    I saw Pirates the other day. I thought it was pretty good although I liked it when the characters Will and Elizabeth were there; although it still had Sparrow it just didn't seem all that right. I liked the first 2 meovies better although this one was certainly better than the third in the series. I thought it lacked fighting scenes, although it had a lot of humour in it. I thought it was still a pretty good movie and I enjoyed it.

    I've been wanting to see Pirates 4. :O
    Haven't had the chance yet. Though, it's more Johnny Depp, so I'll be sure to watch it soon. xD;
    I'm not going to watch HP7P2 until a DVD set comes out with both movies. I haven't seen the first part either. xD;
    I didn't want to wait half a year with suspense, so yeah. I'll have to wait even longer, but it's worth it. xDD;;

    I saw X-Men yesterday. Definitely better than the last couple of X-Men movies. Definitely better than Thor. I'd put it somewhere around Pirates in terms of entertainment value.

    I liked that they spent a decent amount of time developing some of their main characters, giving them reasons for being good guys and bad guys, and generally making it an above average superhero movie.
