In FR/LG, among the Sevii Islands there was a man in the Water Labyrinth, who was holding a Togepi Egg. When gifted to you, it wouldn't hatch straight away; you'd have to run around for a while so it could hatch. The result would be a Level 5 Togepi. This is the only place in the whole game that you can get a Togepi, so it was pretty cool. You'd also need the first Pokémon in your party to have high friendship, otherwise you won't be able to take it.

Did you ever use Togepi when you obtained it, or did you just box it in your PC? Do you think it's a useful Pokémon at all, or it's just one of those not really useful Pokémon? Did you like how you could only obtain one in the whole game, only from the old man! Discuss!

Wow, I don't even think I knew about this Togepi egg. Would have been fun to use it during one of my playthroughs after I obtained it in one game and transferred it over to another game. Sadly, I either can't remember getting the egg or never hatching it so it's doubtful I ever used it, haha.

    Literally, a dex filler.

Most of the time, the eggs in game are received far too late to make a use of without backtracking and going to a great deal of effort to raise. Togepi must be the worst example of this in FR/LG.

It would have been awesome to include Togepi's egg in the mainstory, pre-National dex like in the anime. Possibly given by Misty in some sort of side quest.

In short, you get it way too late to make any use of it.

I think I do remember getting it after this thread was posted. Anyway, the above poster basically hit the nail on the head - not only is it received far too late in the game for you to care about it, but it had no oomph to its attacks then. Too bad Togekiss couldn't have existed at that point...

I've definitely gotten a hold of it before. Was exploring one of those islands, found a man roaming, talked with him, and viola. One thing that surprised me is how long it had taken to actually get this hatched; it seemed as if it were much, much longer than usual. Either that, or maybe it could've just been me imagining things, haha.

I just absolutely love the Sevii Islands, so when I get it usually it ends up being a Togetic. But it is found way, way too late in the story.

It was only on about my fifth go through the games I even noticed there was Four Island and onwards, thought that little quest to the mountain with Moltres was the end of it :P

Never used it. By the time I'd obtained it, I'd already beaten the game and finished the Kanto dex. I hatched it and evolved it and sent it straight away to Sinnoh. It wasn't there early enough in the game to be useful whatsoever - but putting it in the main game would have ruined the near-identical-to-RBY storyline. -shrugs- I've never cared for it much, anyway.

Yeah it's greatest use would appear to have been in the two years before Platinum was released where it was one of the two ways to get a Togetic to evolve into Togekiss

I boxed it. I already completed my team by the time I got it, so I just hatched and boxed it.

I didn't even know such an egg containing a Togepi existed, probably because I've never actually gone that far in the game before. Always something new to learn everyday. I have to agree with others saying that you get it far too late for it to be of any good use. Togekiss hadn't even existed yet, making the thing only good for collection purposes, unless you really, really love Togetic.

I think I trained it because I decided to train every Pokemon I had in LG perfectly evenly, but it was never one of my favorites. As others said, it arrived too late to be useful. I tended to use the Togepi line more in the Johto games because it arrived much earlier (well, more in HGSS--I never really used it in GSC). I also wasn't that fond of the Togepi line until gen 4 (I thought the addition of Togekiss really helped things).
