So it's a 10-book series about a really pissed off 'former'-god that wants to get permision to join the current pantheon of gods. Meanwhile, there is an Empire (the Malazan Empire) that is constantly conquering other cultures but bringing civilization to them and stabilizing their ways of living.

Basically, all the gods in the current pantheon are pissed that some long-forgotten god is trying to claw his way back. They're all using humans/mortals of all sorts. There's a lot of wars, backstabbing, etc. :)
