Although I remember him doing Gunbuster before Eva. That's it.

Ding ding ding!

People. Watch Shimoneta. Go in blind. Don't read the synopsis or any impressions. Just. Watch the first episode. I did. And it was rewarding.

It's... it's like the Seitokai Yakuindomo of the future. I love the commentary on Japan's current regulations regarding "obscenity", too. Awesome.

Sore ga Seiyuu!
The accuracy should probably be pretty high because I've heard that a veteran seiyuu is helping out with the production of this series. Also, the series seems like it'll be fun - I've been hearing positive things about it. I, for one, am definitely checking it out sometime soon.

For now I'll just rewatch Shokugeki no Soma with a friend of mine while I wait for the latest episode to be out and hopefully we'll also get the new opening for it today and I'll be a happy man <333

Will check out at some point, then. Even though I've still only watched one episode of Shirobako.

Oh yeah, I'll be watching Ufotable's Fate/Stay Night UBW with a friend pretty soon, too. I'd have a hard time convincing any of my friends to read the sixty-hour VN, so at least this is better than them starting with Fate/Zero, as I did.

[PokeCommunity.com] uguu?

^MFW. OLM gave this gift of glorious collapse animation to man- nay, to me- that I may express my disappointment.

---

Working my way through the shows airing this season completely without context. Thoughts.

Danchigai - A three and a half minute show about a brother and his touchy-feely sisters. I'm not really sure what this show is but I can only assume it's a lighthearted RomCom, and it's not particularly funny (well, as far as episode 1's concerned) though the pink-haired little sister's great. And there's a tsun, who'll likely be main girl, and it's also his definitely not interested sister. I don't particularly care for her, but as long as this show doesn't spawn two OVAs than the two of us will get along just fine.

Monster Musume - Already talked about this one in this thread. It's a wacky ecchi about monster girls, and so far it's...eh. But it's also only been one episode and there are only three characters, so I'll reserve my judgment.

Ushio and Tora - I've watched a mere 6 minutes of this show and I already love everything that it is. I sadly did learn that this show was a love letter to 90s anime, and goddamn if it doesn't feel like it. The manga's from the 90s, but looking at shows like Parasyte, that doesn't mean a thing. It's the type of shonen that you don't get the feel of at all anymore- it was lost to the 80s/90s without any good reason, so this show existing really is a breath of fresh air. Looking forward to it.

Teekyu 5 - It's Teekyu. There's not much I can say. It's insane, it's great, and it's the best short of the season.

My Wife is the Student Council President (uncensored) - This is another short one, clocking in with an 8 minute runtime. It's a RomCom and it's pretty much everything the title says. The designs are really basic, the animation can get doughy and melt a lot (which is to say, the animation's pretty inconsistent), and it's exactly what you probably think it's going to be. Is it good? Um...well. Episode 1 tries to sell the show with sexual content and symbols but isn't all that interesting, and Episode 2 is a pretty standard scenario but still manages to be pretty cute in the end (and humorous). It's not great, but it respects your time and is far from bad. Plus the SCP's voice has me since it's not as light as you'd expect and is pretty forceful, which caught me off guard (for the better).

GATE - Nooooooo idea. I mean, it's a show about an otaku and a Gate. The execution's interesting but the setup does give me certain bad vibes that I'm going to have to keep watching to work off.

Dragon Ball Super - I like it. Music's good, animation's nice, and it focuses on the characters, which is the most I could ever ask for out of Dragon Ball. Also- and I'm not sure how- but it managed to make Videl cute despite her post-Buu redesign. Not sure if this was the case for BotG, but I really like her design here- hell, I really like how everything looks. But what grabs me the most, what mostly appeals to me (and something that I always enjoy in a show), is that the show really puts an emphasis on the characters' relationships. Family feels like family, and the love between them really shows. I've always been one for familial relationships in shows and in Dragon Ball Z I really felt like it was only really there when it was either convenient for the plot or when the show had time to breathe (so twice). Interested to see where it'll go.

Gatchaman Crowds Insight - Can't comment on the episode for reasons, but I will say that the little girl looks like Red was set to 255, Green and Blue were set to 0, and someone raised the Contrast to 101. Jesus Christ.

@Ushio to Tora - I know what you're talking about. This is some good shit. :D I'd really appreciate it if more shows like this came out. That'd be great.

@Gate - Similar thoughts here. In my case I probably am a little more underwhelmed by it than you, I suppose.

Although the first episode didn't make that good an impression on me, I normally wouldn't drop something after an episode. But in GATE's case I'm doing just that. Many more series this season that interest me waaaay more to pursue something like GATE as well. As a result, I might consider picking GATE up sometimes in the future but for now I'm dropping it.

Watch moar nao. Shirobako is good. Especially if you're curious about the inner workings of the anime business. It definitely does shed a lot of light on it without getting too boring and keeping things fresh.

Watching stuff with friends is fun. I don't think UBW would be the best choice to watch with a friend but it is definitely better than the other choice, haha.

Talking of friends and animu, though, I got caught up to the latest episode of Shokugeki no Soma with my friend while watching it till 2:30AM. And then we were waiting for episode 15th. Only for us to find out the fact that the latest episode has been replaced by a recap airing and that we'd get the next episode the next week. DAMN. :/

I'll continue monster musume even though I think the art in manga felt a lot sexier and seductive. It is easier for me to follow anime than read manga so that's what I'll go with. Unless the manga in question is too good (which this isn't). I remember catching upto Shokugeki no Soma's latest chapter in a day. An action very uncharacteristic of me haha.

Haha, glad to hear that. :D I think FSN is definitely a good series for newcomers to start - it is ridiculously eye-catching and has a good amount of action (let's be honest here, almost all of us started off with action. :p)

I just hope he doesn't find the second half as disappointing as I did. Save for the last episode (which imo was 10/10), I'm definitely not a big fan of the second half of fate stay night ubw.

Uh oh. I certainly hope so too. Haven't watched it yet of course.

Almost being finished with the VN route, I must say I've enjoyed the second half of the story so far. I respect some choices made even though some characters are being a bit left out; this of course being the nature of route-oriented storytelling like this. The additions and changes made by Ufotable have been mostly positive too. Of course anything can go wrong. Especially when such a large part of the fighting in the second half go on more in people's heads and less so in the action itself.

Issues I had with the second half:

Saber got shafted too much.

Shiro's conflict takes so much focus away from everything else that even the romantic angle developed between tohsaka and him doesn't get much fleshing out.

Shiro's conflict brings monologues and long-dialogue filled episodes that were just done better in the first half. Some episodes are just badly paced imo. Definitely can be attributed to the troubles that come with adapting stuff from a text-rich medium like VN to an anime where you're supposed to show more rather than tell. Unfortunately, most of the times it seemed more like they went with the latter rather than the former.

Then there's the fights. UBW = Fights. But it still manages to make the fights in the second half somehow look less magnificent than the ones in the first part. Ofc, it is still better than 90% of the anime out there but it still lacks the beautiful choreography and imaginative fights that the first half had imo.

I don't know, man. Definitely enjoyed the first half a lot more. 8/10 for me. Second half would've been a 5 or 6 if not for that last episode. But yeah. Just me. Hope you both enjoy it a lot more. :)

Will certainly try!

Pacing might be an issue, but we should manage. Myself I wouldn't be happier if they spent twelve episodes talking about Shirou's feelings, but I'm the minority. Definitely a shame if they took away focus from vital character interactions and inventive fight scenes, though. Choreography-wise, the first half was great.

That's the issue, you know. The first half excelled in fight animation so much that the second half almost ends up feeling half-assed. That's a major problem for a series like UBW. And since the more major fights actually take place in the second half, I personally just felt...bad. I expected them to be at least on the level of fights seen in the first half. But nope. Stuff felt lacking in imagination. It still looked amazing (like, the art was good. And animation was fluid), mind you, but it lacked those amazing camera angles, those crazy-ass movements and just that overall feeling of "epicness filling the screen".

Don't exactly know how to describe it better than that, haha. But let's just hope for the sake of yours and your friends' enjoyment that it's just me instead of things actually being that disappointing in nature. :p

We need a topic for Junjou Romantica. Because yaoi and STUDIO DEEN.

Yes, what a mix.

Please go ahead and create the thread, Kenchiin. Not going anywhere near it myself lel

Ya'all fujoshis (right word I think?) should have your own yaoi thread to yoself tbh XD

Anyway, saw God Eater yesterday. The music used was godly. As for the animation and art...I'll talk about it in the thread. It was an okay episode though overall.

Shimosekai has made it as the first spot definitely with that second episode and that opening haha.
