  • I'm pretty sure that was just Kukui's way of being friendly rather than saying "cousin" in the literal way.

At least, that's how I interpreted it.

You're right. I thought it was the new oak saying it but it's not, it's Kukui, and he probably is just using it as a friendly term.

    Sigh, my dreams are ruined.

According to this line of text, it appears Ping is the name of another Alolan island.

Also, Serebii has confirmed details on the event Munchlax:
    - Comes at Level 5 with the Thick Fat ability
    - Moveset is Tackle, Metronome, Hold Back and Happy Hour
    - Held item is Snorlium Z, the special Z-Crystal for Snorlax
    - The event runs from November 18th 2016 (non-Europe S/M release date) to January 11th 2017
I don't think it's the name of an island, as it says "Ping Totem Pokémon", so it could be referring to a Trial.

Has no one commented on the very end of the trailer:

"I can't wait to see you in person, cousin."

Isn't the prof of the region, Sam Oak's cousin? Does this mean we get a visit from the original Pokemon professor?

"Cousin" is just a term in Hawaii like "bro", it's not to be taken literally.

  • Yeah I can see Ilima being one of the first Trial Captains we face if their name is based on the Ilima moth and they're on Melemele Island - that said I would love to see the Bug-type Trial Captain a bit later in the game, since in XY we had Bug right at the start as well and it was quite early on in BW too.

  • Bugs at an early stage just don't really get much of a chance to shine imo. They're extremely fragile in their first stage most of the time and their potential only really comes through once they have fully evolved. Aaron as an Elite Four member was a good example of why Bug specialists should be faced later on in the game. Idk, maybe that's just me but I'm hoping if we do get a Bug-type Trial Captain that we battle them a lot later on as opposed to right away.

  • I do have a concern though: has anyone noticed that we know precisely zilch about the Island Kahunas? I don't know if they're going to be revealed in CoroCoro, or whether or not they would be revealed in some sort of news reveal in a Tuesday the week after (as usual), but it would be nice to know who the Island Kahunas are and what their entire function is, assuming that they aren't the "Elite Four" of the region.

tbh I'm quite content knowing pretty much nothing about the Island Kahunas. I like the fact that they have an air of mystery about them - I think that will make facing them more interesting and exciting, since they're completely new to us (for the most part).

Yeah I completely agree, it's a massive missed opportunity to have Bug-type specialists early in the game so frequently. Though I guess some type needs to be the one that's showcased early, and Bug-types do generally evolve quite early so I guess that's the reason for it :s Even though it means we miss out on the arguably cooler Bug-type Pokémon being showcased in this way.

  • I just found it massively interesting that it took until now for even a hint of another Trial Captain to be revealed. xD Not complaining, but it means that TPCi sure are taking their time with what they want to market front and center, and probably keeping the other stuff hidden until November.

Hopefully, this would probably mean that a lot of the details won't surface until the games are released. Just take a look at the size of the game files! I'd be super hyped if it turns out that there is a Trial Captain for each type, or most of them anyway. Not sure how they're going to handle the Elite Four, that is assuming there is one. I'd suspect that the types that don't get used by Trial Caps/Kahunas will be taken up by the E4 members.

  • Going by how the ORAS demo turned out, I'm expecting most of the info to be mined as soon as it becomes available. I'm hoping that some details are left untouched, but it all just depends on the extent of what the demo files cover and what can be extracted from it.

  • I honestly like how there's still not a lot that we know about these games; it's going to be nice to explore everything for ourselves. I know that info will likely come out in the first part of November, but I think I'll ignore it to keep things a surprise. To me, tuning in to more news in the same month of the games' release would take the fun out of it, when all you need to do is wait about a week or two to play the games yourself.

Although, I'm curious to see what kind of tv commercial we'll get for the games here in the US. I remember the one for ORAS very well, I was at work when I seen that one.

That's fair enough! There is normally a rush of news in the couple weeks leading up to the game, both from official and unofficial sources, and it can sometimes be a bit addictive haha.

The French trailer says Gladion gets a Bracelet from someone.

Ooo interesting, does it specify what kind of Bracelet it is (ie Mega Bracelet or some other kind of bracelet)?

  • I think the Spanish trailer confirms that it is a Z-Ring that Gladion receives. Probably means we'll get a Z-Move for Type: Null too.

Ah interesting, I wonder what the concept for the Z-Move would be - I feel like they would focus on something to do with his head/helmet since that's said to normally hinder it in battle.

  • Gladion receiving his own Z-Ring sounds interesting. It at least hints that the protagonist isn't the only trainer in Alola who can use Z-Moves, but like mentioned above it could also hint at an exclusive Z-Move for Type: Null or something like that.

CoroCoro will be coming out this week and it'll be showcasing some new stuff on Type: Null.

I'm hoping more to get some backstory on Type: Null and what role it plays. I think news about it getting a Z-Move would be better delivered in a video where you can actually see it being used (because that's one of the more cool bits of Z-Moves tbh).
