UMC: Yellow (Ground Types)
Update 4

  • Boarded the S.S. Anne! Time to level up some, and then take on Surge. It's easy to level up right now when Santo's Slash criticals everything x_x
  • Ran into Gary. Easy fight, I outleveled him by a huge margin.
  • Obtained the Cut HM! I'll teach it to Charmander for now. This is good though, it means I can now access the Gym.
  • …Which in the end turned out to be a very boring battle against Surge. Santo criticaled on back to back Slashes and that was it. Seriously, it was the fastest I've EVER beaten Surge, and it was in under a minute. Crazy. Also taught Thunderbolt to Nieds.
  • Messed around, did some grinding, got the Flash HM. Taught to Pikachu. Sad, I pulled him out of the box and I kind of miss having the little guy follow me around.
  • Now in Rock Tunnel, trying to find a Cubone to add to my party. Also considering an Onix too.

I got through the cycling road and then beat the trainers on the way to virmillion. After getting there i went to the s.s Anne and beat all the trainers and my rival. I received the HM cut and left the s.s Anne. Before heading to the gym i beat all the trainers on route 11. I then went on to beat Lt Surge first time.

-Got #1 Zephyr Badge!
-Caught Mankey on Route after Violet.
-Went to Ruins of Alph to train Mankey.
-Grinded all Pokemon to Level 16.

-Trained it to Level 18.

Hello, I've been lurking in this thread for close to two years it seems. I've been fighting with myself for a while to see whether I want to do this or not. Then I realized, it would be a great way to practice my French. So I'd like to do an Ultimate Water Monotype Challenge. I'll be using French roms, going Jaune - Cristal - Emeraude - Platine - Noir.

I was wondering to what extent hacking is allowed. I want to use a variety of Water Pokemon for each gen, but my favorites usually require a super rod, which doesn't come around until near the end of the game...and it sucks to grind because they're underleveled, only to use them in the last gym and the Elite Four.

So I was wondering if each gym or so I would just be allowed to hack in a Water Pokemon if it's not available at that time. They would be unevolved, have regular stats and be at the level range of the wild Pokemon in that area. I figure this is a trade off because I will not be using any starters since I'm sort of bored with them.

For instance:

Kanto:
Starter- Staryu
Pewter- Goldeen
Cerulean - Shellder
Vermillion - Omanyte
Celadon - Seel/Slowpoke/Poliwag

Just wondering if something like this would be okay. I'm not trying to make the game easier, I'm just trying to get in the spirit of the challenge by using a variety of water types that are evenly dispersed throughout my playthrough.

Just let me know, thanks :).

Hi. I am very keen to start a Monotype challenge on Red version and after not being able to decide a type I have decided to try Poison types.

Wish me luck everyone :)

OK, last Diamond update for my Normal UMC:
- Went north from Sunyshore City fighting trainers, went through Victory Road.
- Trained my team to Lv60 each, then challenged the Elite Four... and lost to Lucian.
- More grinding occurred, raising my team to Lv65 each.
- Now the successful E4: Aaron went down at the hands of Girafarig, except for Drapion, who Ambipom took care of.
- Girafarig took out the majority of Bertha's team with Grass Knot, Staraptor took care of Sudowoodo with Close Combat.
- It took all of my team for Flint. Fire specialist with only two Fire-types :\
- The same went for Lucian, but he was relatively easy except Bronzong. I hate Gyro Ball!
- Then I fought Cynthia. All I can say is thank you Max Revives and Full Restores. Cynthia is always tough as hell, especially her Garchomp. My battle with Cynthia can be viewed here.

Ciax Water UMC

Update 3
With my team of super mutants, over powered water pokemon I broke up the undeground gambling racket in Celadon and continued on my meery way.

I went down cycling road without battling one of those bikers and in Fuschia recieved the good rod. With this rod i caught hypnotoad the poliwag and got to tranying. After some training I fought went and got the much needed surf from the safari zoen. Taught surf to everyone and bet koga so i could use it. And with that i caught Blobbo the tentacool. I surfed around a bit so i could get a high levelled one and got lucky when i found one at lv 29. Fought erika with him and evolved.

Now am training on the massive amount of trainers between lavendar and fuschia.

Team Celine
Sophie - Lv 37

Much stronger now that she evolved, still my favourite on the team

Bubbles Lv 37

"image removed"
Auorua Beam

Never used a vaporeon before and now i am wondering why. Fairly bulky yet can still pack quite a punch, good choice for the team

Hypnotoad Lv 33 (Futurama......)
"image removed"
Rain Dance
Hypnosis
Surf
Brick Break
Still training but will be beast when evolved

Blobbo Lv 34
"image removed"

uhh forget, this is awkward
Will replace acid with sludge bomb and maybe bubblebeam with surf. But i really like this guy he took Erika on his own at level 29 and only needed two potions. Will be a great grass counter

I really loved this challenge. I did not made much progress, so i am not posting it. I want to do it with all gens with all types. Of course not in same time. But i can do two in one time and because of that, i also started a grass monotype in Platinum! So i wall play both Crystal and Platinum with Fight and Grass, respectively.
Here is Platinum Progress:
-Did beginning stuff.
-Got Turtwig, my starter.
-Did missions like going to lab, getting Pokeballs.
-When i got to Jubilife, i headed north to catch a Budew.
-Both Budew and Turtwig was grinded to Level 13.
-Battled all trainers and Rival Barry for exp, and both got to Level 15.
-Got Roark to return Gym, and started battle!
-Geodude and Onix goed down with Budew's Mega Drain, and Cranidos was taken out by Turtwig's Razor Leaf. It took 3 turns!
-Got #1 Coal Badge.
-Beat Galactic Grunts on Jubilife.
-Turtwig evolved after the battle!
-Got to Floaroma and booted out Team Galactic.
-Slathered honey and caught Burmy!
-Currently training Burmy near Valley Windworks.

I remember trying to start a single ghost monotype challenge in Sinnoh, but never actually getting to it. Since I've found my Diamond version after 3 years or so of never finding it, I'm going to be doing that. Since I only have 1 DS (And nobody around is willing to help), I will be hacking a Spiritomb into my game at the start, if that's OK with you.

YNH's Pokémon Diamond Dark-type Only Run
I got up to Eterna Forest. With my weakness to Rock (I have two Sneasels), it took me three tries to defeat Roark. How'd I defeat him? I used Rock Smash and Screech.

Good Luck :)

Just Finished my Ultimate Monotype Challenge of Pokemon Red with the Bug type. I have to say, it was much easier than I though and the AI was a lot easier on me than I would have believed (Dragonite didn't attack :O) but It's finished. It was very challenging with there being only 5 Bug Pokemon I could use in Red (if I didn't duplicate, glitch or cheat) so it was pure focus training, and out of those 5, 1 pokemon didn't learn anything except for normal moves - I'm looking at you Scyther -.

Was definately fun and I will definately do it again.

Note: The Reason the PP Isn't perfect is because the screenshots of the moves was taken in Pallet town after the credits.
