Update #2
- Team Rocket has broke into a house? That sounds bad…
- A grunt is still there? Stop there!
- Haha, easy win. He also left a TM Dig
- Continued south to Vermillion City.
- Gets a VS Seeker in Pokemon Center
- What do you mean with a tree in the way? I want a gym challenge!
- *Sigh* Let's just keep go sightseeing on S.S Anne instead
- A lot of trainers to battles. Oh no, Aeon!
- I won and continued to the captain's room.
- I got a HM Cut! Very useful
- Teaches Cut to my HM Slave
- And then are S.S Anne leaving and never comes back.
- Since I'm in disadvantage in Vermilion gym so maybe I should battle some more trainers in Route 11
- I don't really know how I defeated Lt Surge but I did and got the Thunder Badge
- Since that Route 11 is intercepted by a Snorlax so can't we reach Lavender Town thorugh that way. We have to go back to Cerulean City and then go to the Rock Tunnel.
- Who needs Flash? I have always thought it's pretty much unnecessary. I'm following the old labyrinth rule, always follow the wall.
- Enter the creepy Lavender Town and enter the Pokemon Tower.
- Hey! What are you doing here Aeon? You want to battle? Alright then.
- Smell you later Aeon!
- Turtle evolves into Blastoise!
- No can do until I have the Silph Scope so I'm heading east through Underground Tunnel.
- Entering the lovely and beautiful Celadon City.
- Getting behind the giant building and enter the rooftops and getting my free Eevee who I after having bought a Water Stone at the Mart evolving it into my third team member. Mermaid, the Vaporeon.
- A Coin Case could be good to have.
- The gym or the game corner… tough choice but since I'm in disadvantage so will I deal with Team Rocket first.
- Why does the Grunt even mention the switch behind the poster?
- Enter the Team Rocket Base and it's take forever to spin on those floor spinners!
- You dropped the elevator key card? Too bad for you!
- Giovanni! I challenge you!
- Got Silph Scope. I could return to Lavender but first I need to do some things.
- Easy win! Now back to the main floor since I need an Ice Beam.
- Miss how you could just buy coins instead of playing with them…
- Ice Beam bought and using my useless HM Slave to cut down the tree.
- Pervy man is pervy.
- Enter the gym and beats Erik and got my Rainbow Badge. Four down to go!

Update poison UMC

I wouldn't be updating if my plan for today was actually executed.. Anyways..

I got through the distortion world thanks to my prior experience with this aggravating maze. I made it to cyrus, after realizing my lineup mistake, i restarted and took him on again. He lost fairly easy After that, i went to sunnyshore and challenged the leader. I started with Spore and the rest is blurry..

I got waterfall from jasmine, taught it to my piplup, taught Zulu fly, and i got to victory road pokemon center. I healed up, and retired for the night.

Update for Ultimate Monotype Challenge (Ice).

Final Update (#3) on Crystal.

  • Sped through Kanto pretty easily.
  • Manny was more useful in here with Earthquake, although Myrrh and Inferno were still a little better IMO. I am liking Piloswine more now though.
  • Got everyone to L60 before facing Red, then beat him with the help of a couple Max Revives.

Poor little Luvdisc. He couldn't do much damage, so I got off 6 Howls (I needed one Hyper Potion.)

The rest of the battle was full of Earthquakes and Hyper Beams.

Edit: Entered Victory Road, looking for another Loudred to add to my team. I needed one to be a Special Sweeper. First one I find? Modest Nature. Aw yea. Currently, I'm getting enough coins for some TMs/evolving Audio 2.

Edit2: Finished Challenge. Here's all the E4 pics and team moves:

Spoiler:

Team:
Spoiler:

General strategy for E4: Sydney, Phoebe, Glacia: For the most part, it involved 3 Swords Dances and either a BB or Dig. Led Filler for Sydney so I didn't start with lowered Attack. Also needed some Hyper Potions to set up the combo.
Drake: Lots of Ice Beams and healing from Audio 2
Steven: Audio 2 and Dagger pretty much killed everything but Metagross, who, since both of my main Pokemon were almost already dead, killed both of them. Thanks to a lucky miss from Meteor Mash, Audio 1 was able to kill him with EQ.

MVPs

Beginning: Jet
Wattson-Victory Road: Audio 1
E4: Audio 2 & Dagger co-mvp

Funny story now, I'm already 6 badges into the Sinnoh leg! This shouldn't be too bad.

Team: Brobeaver (Bibarel): Around lv. 40: Rollout, Surf, Hyper Fang, ???
Falconbro (Staraptor): Around lv. 45: Aerial Ace, Fly, Quick Attack, Close Combat

also got Brogepi the Togepi (completely useless), Turtwig the HM slave, Starly the HM slave, and Psyduck the HM slave

Edit3: So, for every UMC that I do, I've determined I'm going to do it in the following format:
Start gen 2 and start gen 4 at the same time. Gen 4 will be on my ds, and gens 2 and 3 will be on an emulator. By the time I finish Gen 3, I will usually be around the 6th gym on Gen 4, giving me just two gyms to complete the challenge.

The really ultimate challenge here would to do normal types, but at the same time there's duo types for almost every type + normal.

Normal only has one weakness however, Fighting, which the many Flying-Normal types make up for. Also Rock's resistance to normal can be overcome by Bibarel, Sawsbuck, or just a Pokemon with Rocksmash. TMs are allowed right?

Well... sign me up for this with Normal types. I don't have to do this all in order right? I think I'll start with B/W.

I'm 7/8 done with a Normal Ultimate run, and its really not that bad. And I didn't use any Normal/Flying types for the first two gens. Its not that bad since Normal types can use so many different types of moves (and yes, you can use TMs). Like the run I just finished, I had Normal, Fire, Water, Electric, Ice, Ground, Flying, Dark, Steel, Ghost, and Fighting moves on my team, all but one (Thief) had 60 or more base power. So you basically just have to get a few Pokemon that can learn a lot of attacks, and you're good to go.

Edit for no doubleposting: Decided to start Ultimate Fire Mono. Just got Hoenn and Sinnoh to do for that (did Kanto ages ago in this thread, and Johto quite a bit ago)

- Battles some Rockets and saving Mr. Fuji.
- Back into Mr. Fuji's house and are rewarded the Poké Flute.
- Back to Celadon and battles a Snorlax

- Taking west of Lavender and enter Celadon city as I forgot something there.

- Enter the real Psychic Gym and battles my way through these panels.
- Challenge Sabrina and wins the battle and got my sixth badge, the Marsh Badge.
- Enter the Silph Co that are under attack by Team Rocket.
- Getting the Card Key and scanning all floors.
- Oh no. I recognize that music. Time for battle with Aeon again. Lucky for me I defeated him.
- You want me to raise this Lapras? Sure, I wouldn't mind that. It will make an excellent fifth member. Glacier, the Lapras.
- Second Time facing Giovanni. Not really hard since Giovanni's specialty is Ground-type monsters.
- Saving the President of Silph and got a Master Ball as thanks.
- Back and through Celadon and cutting the tree to get where I'll get my HM Fly.
- Catching a random Pidgey (HM Slave) and teaches it Fly.
- Flying back Fuchsia City and teaches HM Surf on KingCarp.
- Surfing south and after a while reaches Seaform Island.
- Realize that I can't pass the islands to get to Cinnabar and since I don't need any of the Pokémons in the caves so am I using Fly to get back home to Pallet Town.
- Surfing south and finally reaches my favorite town in Kanto, Cinnabar Island.
- Using one of my rods and catches a Tentacool, nicknamed Octopus, which will be my sixth and final team member.

UMC Normal Sinnoh: Made it through Mt. Coronet to Snowpoint, where I challenged Candice. The first three fell like rocks, but then I stopped paying attention to what was happening against Froslass. I accidentally used Hyper Fang like 5 times on a Ghost Type. D'oh! I thought I kept missing because she was using Double Team, didn't realize I didn't affect her for some reason. Sigh.

Once I got my act together, I reloaded and tried again. I could have beaten her, but I wasted two of my 50 valuable Hyper Potions.

The second time went perfectly, but Bibarel could only land one Surf (he missed like 5 times before fainting). Staraptor came in and Brave Bird'd for the badge.

I am currently infiltrating Galactic HQ

I actually found Normal to be esaier than some others (although Hoenn was painful) because of the lack of weaknesses and the awesomeness of Return. The wide movepools helped a lot as well.

Actually started Platinum Fire before Hoenn Fire, although I'll finish the latter first.

Name: Cerise
Location: Just beat Roark
Pokemon: Halu the Lv. 18 Monferno (Mach Punch, Return, Leer, Ember)
SLAVEDUCK the Lv. something Psyduck (???)

My team will look something like:
Infernape (Close Combat, Aerial Ace, Rock Slide, Shadow Claw)
Infernape (Flamethrower, Earthquake, Grass Knot, U-Turn)
Houndoom (Flamethrower, Dark Pulse, Thunder Fang, Iron Tail)

I got the White rom so I'll put my Hoenn Fighting Monotype Challenge on hold until I'm done with my Ground UMC.

Update on both Normal Sinnoh and Fire Sinnoh:

Normal:
Defeated Galactic Commanders with Rival's help.
Defeated Cyrus in Distortion World.
Defeated Giratina
Made it to Sunyshore City.

I'm currently trying to figure out how to beat Volkner with just my Staraptor and Bibarel, both of which are weak to Electric. Hopefully, Staraptor can overpower a couple of Pokemon with Close Combat, and Bibarel can finish up with Dig.

Team: Falconbro the Staraptor (Lv. 54): Aerial Ace, Fly, Brave Bird, Close Combat
Brobeaver the Bibarel (Lv. 52): Dig, Rollout, Hyper Fang, Surf

Fire: Beat Gardenia
Beat Fantina
Beat Rival a couple of times

Currently on route 215 on my way to Veilstone. Imma go catch a Houndour real quck so he can get some training in him.

Team: Falu the Infernape (Lv. 38): Flame Wheel, Shadow Claw, Close Combat, Return
SLAVEDUCK the Psyduck: Rock Smash
DERPSLAVE the Bidoof: Cut

@Cardwell: He said he traded it...

Just a quick post to let y'all know I haven't given up on my Fire type mono challenge. I have temporarily pushed it aside to do the Green & Gold challenge, but I fully intend to pick it back up once I'm done with that. :)
