Ultimate Monotype Challenge Thread

Alright it's been some time but I'm on vacation but I did some work on the Sinnoh part of my Ultimate Rock Monotype Challenge.

I'm doing this in Diamond and only using a Graveller because every other rock pokemon is "bad" in Sinnoh.
I had some trouble with Gardenia but I finally succeed with a 19 level advantage.
Other than that I didn't have any trouble since Graveller was overleveled.
I have just defeated the 5th gym and Graveller is lvl 54 or something.

I was wondering if I could do the Ultimate Challenge, just for Gens I-III? I just can't be bothered to use the DS Emulators because they're slow in general and the fast forward toggle doesn't work well.

Oh, and can I do FRLG instead of RBY? Or no remakes?

If not, I'll be starting an Electric Mono in Fire Red.
remakes are allowed. the ultimate challenge consists of all five gens, but you can do 3 single monos if you like, and then when you feel up to it, you can continue it on the DS games. This thread will not be getting reset, and if it does, I feel it will need to bring all the challengers/champions over. There are people who have gone for a year in between games.

if you do start an electric mono on FireRed, make sure you state if it is a single or ultimate, though.

Hmm, I suppose I'll just do a regular challenge in Fire Red. There aren't a lot of Electric Mons in Hoenn or Sinnoh, anyways.

Anyways, already started the challenge.

That would be me and maybe someone else as well... :cheeky:

Update for Final Ultimate Monotype Challenge (Water).

Final Update (#6) on LeafGreen.
  • Okay, well I got all my movesets finalized, then I grinded with the VS Seeker against the 2 CoolTrainers in Sevault Canyon.
  • Taught Focus Punch and Substitute to Frogman, Blizzard to Torrent, had Rider relearn Rain Dance and Poseidon Dragon Dance.
  • When everyone was at L64, I felt confident enough to challenge the Elite Four again.
  • Lorelei was again soloed by Frogman, who dominated with a single Substitute and Focus Punch.

    [PokeCommunity.com] Ultimate Monotype Challenge Thread

  • Bruno was also again soloed by Ruby, who barely hung on. Surf and Psychic were the moves of choice.

  • Agatha was taken care of by Torrent (Gengar), Aquaman (Misdreavus, Arbok), and Rider (Gengar, Crobat).

  • Lance was beaten mostly by Rider (Thunder'd Gyarados, Surf'd Aerodactyl, Ice Beam'd Dragonite), and Torrent (Blizzard'd Dragonite) and Poseidon (Earthquake'd Kingdra) each took out one as well.

I'd like to get that Ultimate Ice Mono done ^-^

I beat Blue yesterday on Rom. It only took a day to finish so I waited until now.

Start- Hacked in Jynx because I can't trade and the rules say I can hack in my Jynx. I caught it at lv 3. I nicknamed my Jynx Hips after it's Pokedex entry. Charmander was my "official" starter so that my Rival would have Squirtle. Blastoise was the most neutral to my final team, although, Thunderbolt made quick work of it.

Brock- I learned how this game was designed by training my Jynx. Hacked Pokemon seriously have a disadvantage here @-@ At lv 16 when I challenged him, my Jynx was still stuck with Pound and Lovely Kiss. I pounded the crud out of both Geodude and Onix. Thank you speed up button and a lot of potions!

Misty- So Hips finally starting learning moves. Lick at 18 and Doubleslap at 23. Still no power against them pesky rocks! So I taught it Water Gun. Thank goodness @-@ I didn't even know that Water Gun was a TM back then! I cruised through every possible trainer I could for exp from Mt. Moon to Route 25. Then I continued pounding the crud out of Misty :P I never liked Doubleslap and Lick seemed ineffective, although in retrospect, it might have been helpful for Starmie.

Surge- Hips learned the beloved Ice Punch at lv 31. Cleaned out water types with Pound and everything else with Ice Punch. Surge was easy! Everything fell to my fearsome Ice Punch!

Erika- After coming out of Rock Tunnel, my Jynx was already Lv 47 @-@ I needed more Ice types so I sped through some of the events needed to get my Ice army. I finished the Game Corner and Pokemon Tower ASAP! Afterwards I went to get my Super Rod so I could pick up a Lv 15 Shellder. Shellder's nickname was Kanon. Less basic than Cannon, but it still gets the job done ;3 I already had the Ice Beam TM so I evolved my Shellder right away and taught it Ice Beam and Swift. I also taught Hips Bubblebeam after deciding to just teach everyone else Surf. Erika was my newly added Pokemon's lunch. Salads are good for your health, I guess ^-^

Koga- I continued training my Cloyster by going down Cycling Road. I got it to about Lv 38. Now I needed to get a solid water move and Surf was perfect. The special HM was obtained and so were the Gold Teeth! which I exchanged for Strength. I also caught a Spearow for Fly and obtained that HM as well. Cut was obtained a long time ago of course and Charmander became my HM Slave. Now I wanted to add one more Pokemon so I sped through Silph Co just to get Lapras. No training was done here and I saved Giovanni for later. Lapras was trained at the remaining routes that Kanon wasn't trained at and was nicknamed Prima. I taught Prima Thunderbolt and Surf using TMs and HMs. I beat Koga by spamming Surf with Prima.

Sabrina- Another detour made. I traveled to the Seafoam Islands to pick up my last Pokemon, Shivers the Seel. I trained Shivers at Silph Co. where it quickly evolved into Dewgong. I just love how Dewgong looks <3 (An irrelevant sidenote). Dewgong quickly joined the ranks of my Ice Army and Sabrina was taken down by a mix of my Ice type prowess. I wanted as even training as I could get. I trained about 2 Lvs at a time and they were about Lv 42-44ish.

Blaine- I sped through this one. I was getting antsy and just wanted to finish so I could feel accomplished. After beating the surrounding routes and going through the mansion, I creamed him easily.

Giovanni- Was too easy. Same as above... except without that route part. The remaining journey was smooth sailing and even the E4 didn't put up that much of a fight...

Elite 4: I handled them with mostly type matching to be honest.

Lorelei: Lapras ruled here. Everything except Jynx was taken out with Thunderbolt. It was a shame to destroy such a fine trainer :/

Bruno: Water rules here in general. I believe I finished him off mostly with Dewgong. Jynx took care of the fighters.

Agatha: Jynx bait. I used Jynx on just about everything. There were a couple switch outs made when Jynx got hit by Confuse Ray.

Lance: Pshaw. Chump. Lapras led to take care of Gyrados and everything after fell to IceBeam.

Rival: Also pretty easy. Pidgeot finished with Ice Punch. Alakzam Body Slammed to death. Rhydon and Arcanine Surfed on. Egg boy was Ice Punched and Blastoise was electrocuted with Thunderbolt.
