  • Can i use a pokemon like that evoles into the type I might use (flying). Magikarp evoles into a Gyarados witch is part flying for some reason. So can i use Magikarp because it evoles into a pokemon that is part flying and I'm using that type?
Yeah, of course you can. ^_^

And methinks the first post is a little out of date. I'll see what I can do in regards to rectifying it. If after I'm done you still see your name in the wrong section, just let me know.

  • Damn. Achieving Fire-type Pokémon in Crystal version is tough. There are hardly any. Right now, my team is only two Pokémon, and my HM slave:

    Typhlosion, Lv. 42
    - Ember
    - Quick Attack
    - Cut
    - Flame Wheel

    Eevee, Lv. 20
    - Tackle
    - Tail Whip
    - Sand-Attack
    - Growl

    Togepi (Flash Slave)

It's been ages since I've played any generation II games, so things are going relatively slow (I'm using an emulator) - Right now I'm trying to get my hands on a Surf slave, so I can get to Cianwood City.

  • ...hmmm if it's not too much trouble could I join? I would like to do Flying on my Blue version, then I will go to Crystal, then Saphire, and finally Diamond... ^v^ (Also by me using Flying I assume I can train Charmander to Charizard and a Dratini to a Dragonite as long as I don't use them for trainer battles until they are in ther final stages?)

the e4 were more or less easy, i didnt lose 1 hp against sydney and swept through his team with heracross and beautyfly, defeated phoebe with ninjask and illumise, owned glacia with heracross (except for walrein which used sheer cold and it didnt miss >.>, drake was an easy prey for masquerain, only steven was a bit hard, i lost the first attempt because cradily got all its stats boosted by ancient power and it took out the half of my team after that

    final team:

yay, i found an english platinum version somewhere =)
started a game, caught a kricketot, leveled it up to level 10 with the help of piplup (i chose piplup cause i want the rival to have torterra, which is the only dppt starter that is weak to bug), beat rival in jubilife city (his starly was hard), beat roark (ohko'd onix and cranidos with fury cutter), went to floaroma town, defeated some galactic grunts, captured a burmy and a combee with in honey trees (of course i didnt wait for 6 hours, i just changed the time) and caught a wurmple on route 204 and evolved it.

    current team:

    Kricketune lv. 21
    Spr_4p_402_m.png

    - Sing
    - Rock Smash
    - Fury Cutter
    - Leech Life

    Combee lv. 16
    Spr_4p_415_m.png

    - Sweet Scent
    - Gust
    - Bug Bite

    Burmy lv. 13
    Spr_4p_412.png

    - Protect
    - Tackle

    Cascoon lv. 10
    Spr_4d_268.png

    - Tackle
    - String Shot
    - Poison Sting

    _____

update: evolved cascoon, beat mars in the valley windworks, went through eterna forest, won the forest badge in eterna city, and while doing the gym burmy and combee evolved.

    Kricketune lv. 22
    Spr_4p_402_m.png

    - Sing
    - Rock Smash
    - Fury Cutter
    - Leech Life

    - HP (didnt found out the type yet, but it hits normal, grass/poison, bug and water normal. i hope it isnt dragon)

    Dustox lv. 17
    Spr_4p_269_m.png

-went to hearthrome, beat fantina, beat rival, caught a scyther somewhere between solaceon and veilstone, beat maylene, went to pastoria, caught some yanmas in the safari zone (whatever its name was like) and breeded til i got one with an acceptable nature, rash. when i wanted to go into the pastoria gym, i got surprised by my rival but i managed to beat him although all of his pokemon were about level 34 or 35
update: beat all the trainers in the gym and on the route between pastoria and hearthrome and evolved yanma, but i simply cant beat crasher wake. his gyarados is always haxing around, getting 3 CHs in a row and often flinching my bugs. quagsire isnt a real problem, maybe it knows rock tomb, but rock tomb is so inaccurate, it could use horn drill/sheer cold/etc as well. floatzel is even more annoying than gyarados, its ice fang is super effective against the half of my team and it outspeeds even scyther and yanmega and always gets a hyper potion when its almost down. that sucks lol

    current team:

    Kricketune lv. 33
    Spr_4p_402_m.png

    - Aerial Ace
    - Rock Smash
    - Slash
    - X-Scissor

  • I think I've made enough progress again to make an update post. In fact, I've made it all the way to Snowpoint City, beating Cyrus, Byron, Mars, and Saturn? (the blue-haired one) on the way!!!

    Here's my current team:

    Tangrowth Lv41
    0465Front_m.png

    -Stun Spore
    -Vine Whip
    -Ancientpower
    -Mega Drain

    Carnivine Lv41
    0455Front_m.png

    -Vine Whip
    -Stockpile
    -Swallow
    -Crunch

    Torterra Lv42
    0389Front_m.png

    -Earthquake
    -Synthesis
    -Bite
    -Razor Leaf

    Roserade Lv42
    0407Front_f.png

    -Grasswhistle
    -Giga Drain
    -Leech Seed
    -Petal Dance

    Leafeon Lv42
    0470Front_f.png

    -Strength
    -Grass Knot
    -Magical Leaf
    -Synthesis

I actually think that I'm going to opt out on catching a Snover immediately so that once I get to climbing up Mt. Coronet, I can just catch a raw Abomasnow, because I really want it to know Wood Hammer.

I haven't posted in a while, I hadn't got the chance to play, but I beat the 8 gym leaders and I'm heading to victory road, then the E4. Liza and Tate were surprisingly easy with Surf and Giga Drain from Tentacruel and Gloom respectively. After a bunch of surfing and diving I eventually found a green shard, so I traded it for a leaf stone and now I have a Vileplume. Vileplume's Giga Drain and Weezing's Thunderbolt defeated all of Wallace's pokemon, except I used Selfdestruct to defeat his Milotic in one attack.

    Team:
    Seviper Lv38
    Screech
    Crunch
    Poison Fang
    Poison Tail
    Crobat Lv40
    Steel Wing
    Fly
    Confuse Ray
    Bite
    Vileplume Lv41
    Moonlight
    Acid
    Giga Drain
    Stun Spore
    Muk Lv38
    Screech
    Acid Armor
    Rock Tomb
    Sludge
    Weezing Lv40
    Sludge
    Thunderbolt
    Smokescreen
    Selfdestruct
    Tentacruel Lv38
    Barrier
    Supersonic
    Acid
    Surf

  • Okay, so I just fought my way through Crystal with Fire-type Pokémon, which turned out to be pretty boring, cuz I only play at night, and there's NO Fire-type Pokémon to catch at night in Crystal version, so I had to battle my way through, using only my Typhlosion. (I didn't get my hands on a Fire Stone, and therefore did not get to evolve my Eevee)

    My final team: (Haha..)

    Typhlosion, Lv. 70
    - Flamethrower
    - Swift
    - Cut
    - Flame Wheel

    HM Slaves
    Poliwag (Surf, Whirlpool, Waterfall)
    Shuckle (Strength)
    Togetic (Flash, Fly)

Oh yea, I'm gonne continue in Emerald Version - Hopefully, I'll be making a bit more updates as I go along this time.

  • Okay, I'm now in Mauville City. Roxanne was pretty easy - My Torchic evolved into Combusken while battling a trainer in her gym, and using Combusken's Double Kick, Roxanne didn't have a chance. Brawly was actualy pretty easy, too - Using Combusken's Peck, he didn't really stand a chance, either. Or, well, he was tougher than Roxanne, but still pretty easy.
    My current team:

    Combusken, Lv. 31
    - Ember
    - Peck

after numerous attempts i was finally able to beat wake with yanmegas ancientpower and a lot of luck. went to celestic town after that and almost got beaten by two ace trainers with gyarados and raichu, met cyrus in celestic town and beat him, got surf, went to canalave, kricketune got rid of rock smash there. got surprized by rival again, but he was easy to beat (except for staraptor). did a lot of training and beat byron, yanmega was extremely helpful here again. then, i went to lake valor where team galactic was just getting pwned by some magikarps, beat the remaining ones and commander saturn. next, i'll go to snowpoint (i hate that part more than any victory road) and try to get my 7th badge.

    current team:

    - Aerial Ace

  • UPDATE!!!!!

After I got to Snowpoint last time, I just trained a little to raise levels that needed only little experience anyway, and then I rushed my way all the way through the 7th gym, Galactic HQ, Mt. Coronet, the Torn World (which is much better sounding than the distortion world in my opinion), and the 8th gym, and now I'm in the pokemon center in front of Victory Road's entrance.

    Here's my current team:

    Tangrowth Lv44
    0465Front_m.png

    -Stun Spore
    -Slam
    -Ancientpower
    -Mega Drain

    Roserade Lv44
    0407Front_f.png

    -Sludge Bomb
    -Giga Drain
    -Leech Seed
    -Petal Dance

    Carnivine Lv44
    0455Front_m.png

    -Vine Whip
    -Stockpile
    -Swallow
    -Crunch

    Abomasnow Lv44
    0460Front_f.png

    -Rock Climb
    -Ice Shard
    -Ice Beam
    -Wood Hammer

    Leafeon Lv45
    0470Front_f.png

    -Strength
    -Grass Knot
    -Magical Leaf
    -Synthesis

    Torterra Lv48
    0389Front_m.png

    -Earthquake
    -Synthesis
    -Crunch
    -Razor Leaf

Seeing that all I have left is Victory Road, one more Rival fight, and the Elite Four, I think it's safe to say that after coming such a long way, I'm finally nearing the end of the Ultimate Monotype Challenge. I've had a lot of fun with this, and after a nearly two-month long span, I hate to see it end, but at the same time, it's for that reason that I should see it end, so that I know I can pull through the entire thing!!! (Oh, and after this is all done, I'm casting Carnivine into my collection of pokemon I'll never touch ever again!!!)

Alright, I beat Misty! I'm moving quick through the game but I'm having fun. It's what you have to expect :D

Ok, I started in route... uhh.. 3? The battles were no problem to me whatsoever, easy peasy. However, I did learn Karate Chop; meaning I can now kick the hide of anything in my way. My Mankey is literally an unstoppable force.
Mount Moon was pretty much the same basic deal, except with more random encounters. I accidentially used a poke ball on a Geodude and caught it.. uhh.. woops? Nonetheless I deposited it when I got to Cerulean.
Found the 'Super Nerd' and what a title that is to call someone! Is it a geek? Is it a troll? NO! It's Super Nerd!
Anyway, I took the Dome fossil because I like the name and I went for the exit.

    BUT WAIT

Jesse and James show up to foil my plans. What should I do?
    Karate Chop FRENZEH!
I defeated Meowth and Ekans in one, but Koffing managed to survive long enough to poison me.. Good thing I had antidotes or that would be quite a pickle.

Arrived at Cerulean and went straight to the gym again. You guessed it.. I chopped them so hard, the water divided into two!
Now, you may be wondering why I quoted Alakazam. Well, Misty's Starmie kept on using Harden. Seriously, no bubblebeam action here. I find it odd how bad the AI can be in this game, even if they sometimes use X items, they still manage to fail at exposing weaknesses. I found it to be a bit of a gip, as I could've been defeated if Starmie used bubblebeam. Oh well, I thrashed her into the ground (Or should I say waves?)

    Current team again
    gby056.gif

    Mankey
    Level 22
    Karate Chop
    Leer
    Low Kick
    Scratch
    Highest Stat: Attack - 48
    Lowest Stat: Special - 26

Odd fact: Misty doesn't have red hair in her OW sprite, it's black. Huh...
The Slowbro in Cerulean is replaced with an Electrode in yellow. Why? I have no idea.
actually, you can still use the geodude,as rock and ground are considered fighting types in the TCG,so they are usable in a way

i beat Candice and finished the whole Galactic/Giratina thing now. In the last Galactic Battles against Mars and Jupiter and Cyrus, i had to use my HM Slaves as cannon fodder so i was able to use some Revives on my fainted Bugs, i hope it wasnt against the Rules. arrived in Sunnyshore City now and convinced Volkner to return to his Gym and being defeated by me =D (i'm so glad u dont need HMs in Gyms in Gen. 4, i was sooooo weak with 2 Teammembers missing...

    current team:

    Kricketune lv. 47
    Spr_4p_402_m.png
<-- If it manages to get one or two Swords Dances up, it's a real Beast, but the most time its weak
    - Aerial Ace
    - Night Slash
    - X-Scissor
    - Swords Dance

    Vespiquen lv. 48
    Spr_4p_416.png
<-- Good Tank and my only Weapon against Gyarados besides Yanmega, but the Flying-Type ruins everything
    - Heal Order
    - Toxic
    - Attack Order
    - Power Gem

    Wormadam (Steel) lv. 46
    Spr_4p_413S.png
<-- Resists almost everything, but it really wants a Recovery Move.
    - Stealth Rock
    - Psychic
    - Shadow Ball
    - Flash Cannon

    Dustox lv. 45
    Spr_4p_269_m.png
<-- not really good, but the support from Toxic is really usefull sometimes. Maybe i'll replace Whirlwind (Dustox isnt able to take many Hits, so it fails at Toxic Shuffling) with Sludge Bomb or something else
    - Psybeam
    - Whirlwind
    - Bug Buzz
    - Toxic

    Scyther lv. 49
    Spr_4p_123_m.png
<-- Killed most almost all Galactic Grunts on its own after Kricketune fainted after one third of Mt. Coronet because of Poison. Enough said.
    - Brick Break
    - Night Slash
    - X-Scissor
    - Wing Attack

    Yanmega lv. 49
    Spr_4p_469.png
<-- Hits almost everything neutral except for 4x Resisters due to Tinted Lens and has extreme Sp. A. The only Letdown is that its moves really lack PPs.
    - Silver Wind
    - Giga Drain
    - Ancient Power
    - Uproar

    HM Slaves:
Bibarel lv. 15 (Cut, Rock Smash, Strength, Rock Climb)
