    • Unova Double Trouble!

    Welcome, Ladies and Gentlemen, to my VGC11 Tourney! For those of you unfamiliar with what VGC11 is, allow me to explain. Simply put, we will be playing using the official competitive format used by the Video Game Championships in 2011, when Black version and White version were still new. This means we will be battling in doubles using only Pokemon found in Unova! This will make the choices for teams more interesting, as limiting choice always does. From what i have heard, this format is very New Player friendly, so don't be afraid to jump in if you've never battled before!

    Battling will begin on June 17, 2013 and will run on a 3-5 day round system whereby you will need to fight your opponent for a given round within.


    Rules:
    1. You must have access to Wifi, and a Gen 5 game (White, Black, White 2, or Black 2) in order to participate.
    2. Absolutely no hacks. Legal Pokemon are okay if you're on a time frame, but no hacked moves or impossible stat spreads, or you WILL be disqualified.
    3. This tourney will be held Swiss style. This means you will be battling several people, even if you lose in the first round you have a chance to win. Number of rounds will be determined by the total participants. Your win/loss ratio will determine what rank you place in the tourney. You will be matched up randomly in round one, and after that matched up by how many wins/losses you have. When reporting your wins, you should list the final score like this: 6-0, 0-3, 1-0 etc.
    4. Do NOT discuss other participant's teams. You will be disqualified for doing so. This includes, but is not limited to, VMs, PMs, threads, and IRC chats.
    5. In your sign up, include your Friend code in the post. Please do not reference your signature. When participating you will be editing your battle results into your original post in order to keep things organized.


    VGC11 Format:
    1. Only Pokemon from the Black and White Unova Dex are allowed.
    2. Battles will be Double Flat Battles with no Wonder Launcher. You can bring 6 Pokemon with you to the battle, but only 4 may participate and will be chosen by you at the start of battle. All Pokemon will be reduced to lvl 50, but still not be raised, so do not enter with Pokemon under lvl 50. If you bring Pokemon under level 50 you will forfeit the match.
    3. Species Clause is in effect. Only one of each Pokemon is allowed on your team. No bringing 4 Hydreigon.
    4. Item Clase is in effect. No two Pokemon on your team may be holding the same item.
    5. All Dream World abilities are banned with the exception of:

    • Musharna (Telepathy)
    • Darmanitan (Zen Mode)
    6. The following Pokemon are banned:

    • Victini
    • Reshiram
    • Zekrom
    • Kyurem
    • Keldeo
    • Meloetta
    • Genesect
    7. Any alternate forms added in BW2 are also banned.
    8. No moves or move combos only obtainable by Move Tutor except:

    • Draco Meteor
    • Water Pledge
    • Fire Pledge
    • Grass Pledge
    • Hydro Cannon
    • Blast Burn
    • Frenzy Plant

    Prizes are to come as I arrange for them, but for now I will tell you the victor will have their name edited into the title of this thread.

    • Okay, can you guys please include your FCs in your posts? Especially if your FC isn't clearly visible on your sig. It's just a real hassle to have to scroll back and forth to look at pieces of your FC when it's in a [Title] tag.

    • Yes you can. These are the same rules as official play in 2011, so there's no tier system. Plus doubles never has tiers.

    Necrum, I'd add that Flat Doubles means 4v4 so there's no misunderstanding. Also, can we make it best of three? VGC battles, especially in '11 season were short so we could afford best of three. It'll also help freshmen to get some more experience in doubles.

    • Actually, I told him to take the 4 vs 4 out because it would make people think they can only have 4 in the party when it's actually 6 in party but 4 goes into battle. Maybe it's better if a very short explanation of what is flat battle is posted somewhere.

    @Akatsuki - There's no such thing as ubers in doubles.

    • Sorry ubers are ubers, whatever the type, or are you telling me if I take rayquaza mewtwo, deoxys and arceus it's a fair fight.
    That's why legendaries aren't allowed in those nintendo tourneys, otherwise you'd only see kids with legendaries.
    Anyway don't take me wrong, I just asked to know what I'd be against ^^

    • "Uber" is a fandom name, this is official format from tournaments that were held worldwide two seasons ago, so calling something uber is ridiculous as the metagame comes from Pokemon officials, not fanbase.

    As I mentioned before, throw Smogon/singles mindset away. Thundurus isn't 1/3 that scary as it is in singles. The other so called "uber" - Excadrill - doesn't have Sand Stream's support so it just becomes a mediocre Pokemon.

    Retinaburn told me about this tourney, so I'd like to join as well! I have very little experience with WiFi battles though, but this does seem newbie friendly given the limited options, so I thought why not?

    Also, a question, since I've noticed BW2 Move Tutors are banned. How about N's Pokemon or those you get from in-game trades, like Petilil (B2), Cottonee (W2) and Gigalith?

    • I asked Necrum about Dream Ball Musharna which is available only via Dream Radar in BW2 and he said it's OK as long as it fits BW's limits (so basically no tutor moves). I'm sure you can use N's Pokemon and those from in-game trades as well.
