USUM: Releasing Information Strangely

I didn't see a thread addressing this yet so here I go!

I find it a bit odd that it's mid July and we've basically got nothing to go off of other than the reveal trailer. I'm typically not the person who wants to be given a bunch of spoilery news( which could be a reason why they cut back this time), but it feels like we know almost nothing about these games except for a few vague clues. I've heard people debate about whether these games will truly be different from Sun and Moon based on the fact we've heard nothing about it and I'd like to hear your guys thoughts on this.

Should we be expecting more news than what we got? Is this enough to draw people into buying the games? Do you think USUM being advertised this way is good because it avoids spoils or do you want more info? Let's discuss!

People seem to forget that there was a two month gap between Sun and Moon's announcement and then when we actually got info on it. It's only been a month since USUM's announcement.

News will come, just be patient.

I'm sure news will come eventually!

On one hand I can safely say I'm glad they've decided to cut back on the spoilers a bit. On the other hand while there was a waiting period for Sun and Moon, I can consider the reason why it didn't feel this long of a wait is because there was hype for a new gen and way more to discuss.

News will come. Just not this month. August is likely to have it.

What I find strange is that people are acting like it's a guaranteed thing we'll get no news this month despite the fact that there are still 15 days left to this month and trailers typically don't have an announcement prior, so anything could happen...

...but I don't find this particularly surprising or strange, given that SM had a large news gap after initial announcement. A lot of Western titles also go months without any news after their initial announcement, and if you think USUM is bad, see how well Square Enix handle their news updates. It's aggravating and unnecessary and suggests a lack of content or care for the titles, but it isn't particularly strange.

To be honest, I have two theories why news seems to be rare...

    1. The games are a third version, like Yellow, Crystal, Emerald and Platinum. So, no need to give us news about games which are pretty much Pokémon Sun and Moon, with a few new features and extras slapped on.

    2. The games are probably new and are riddled with many new, interesting things, so they want to hold back on the news and spoilers.

^ This was a major problem with Pokémon Sun and Moon, we basically got the whole games spoiled for us with all the news and trailers we got. Let's face it, nearly all the new Pokémon were revealed, they never reveal the villainous team in trailers (I don't remember Team Flare being blatantly revealed, like Team Skull and Aether Foundation were).

I worked out a plan on another thread.

Maybe they could span out four trailers, a trailer introducing some of the main characters this month, and maybe a small update trailer in September and another one in late October and shortly before release, they should give the main advertisement trailer, which should be a compilation of the three previous trailers.

This will be a way to keep us interested and updated and won't spoil much of the games for us.

I think I'm with Hau's theory. Since these games are the typical updated third version/sequel/remake thingy, it would make sense to not showcase as much new features in the trailers since the original paired versions already covered a lot.

Also, it would be a benefit to those who want to avoid spoilers a little more since S/M had a problem of introducing nearly the whole line-up of new Pokemon in the trailers alone.

This wait feels worse than the one we had with Sun & Moon for some reason. There's a lot less time between the announcement and the release date so I'm actually really surprised we've had absolutely nothing on these games so far. Hopefully it means that we're due for a good amount of information next month at the very least.

I feel this to be the likely case. If anything, more creative power is likely going to the Switch title, while this might just bring about a couple of new formes and possibly move tutors.

When you look at it, US/UM is basically following in the footsteps of games like Emerald, Platinum and B2/W2, a basic revisit of the same region but with extra features. It'd make sense that news coverage would be more minimal this time around compared to S/M which debuted 7th Gen while US/UM is pretty much the same game with a little extra.

Makes sense. When they release games with new pokemon, region, characters, etc there is bound to be more news for them since they are officially new.

Revisits of the same region requires less work and therefore less news than the very first pair of games in the gen.

I find it extremely unlikely these are third versions, given the wording used in the reveal trailer. Third versions are not "another story" because they're the exact same story re-told with a different cover star. I suspect they will use the majority of SM's features, but the major differences will be in the story...which is why we may not have seen anything quite yet/won't for a while. Because story spoilers are generally not covered in trailers.

It's definitely not a "third version" but it will feel like one to an extent, since it will carry over most of, if not all of S/M's features. B2/W2 was basically like B/W but with a completely different story, and that's why I'm getting a lot of B2/W2 vibes with US/UM.
