I'm wondering how many people use walkthroughs or guides when they're playing through the story. Also if you do which games did you get them for and how useful are they? Plus do you use the ones on the internet or get the books?

I get the guides for the main Pokemon games, as it helps when I'm looking for Pokemon or just in general. Plus it helps if you try to complete the Pokedex. I find them more useful than the internet as it means you have to be by the computer when you're playing the games, which means if you're stuck on holiday you can't really get advice.

However some of the guides that are released aren't helpful, like the Diamond/Pearl Vol.1 Pokedex, as it was just little pictures of them and where to find them, with no moves that they learn or anything. One of the more helpful ones was the Kanto guide and Platinum as it had all the info you wanted for the game and what moves every Pokemon could learn etc.

I rarely use walkthroughs unless I'm absolutely stuck in the game, and then I use a GameFAQS guide rather than a paperback guide...mainly because it's cheaper and less embarassing. XD

I never use walkthroughs unless I'm so stuck in the game that i want to bust my system.Only has happened once with distortion world.

Eh, I don't believe I've ever used walkthroughs for pokemon games. Mostly, I like to rely on good old luck to find out which pokemon are in the next route, and the main story is so streamlined that a walkthrough isn't needed.

Uhhh....I look on Serebii to find out what I can catch, when I'm in one of my "must...complete...'dex..." moods, and I look online to find legends. However, I did discover Giratina randomly one day on Diamond whilst looking at my map, as I spotted the route had changed.

Yeah, I use the online ones when I'm making teams. But then when I start playing the game, I've been through it enough times that I just know where to go. Serebii+GameFaqs+Bulbapedia=everything you could ever need.

I really try to avoid walkthroughs at all costs. It feels a lot more rewarding if you finally complete something all by yourself. And I've often found that if I'm stuck on a game, more often than not I just stop playing it for a while, then when I go back on I can usually get through it. :)

I used to use guidebooks for my games, but now I just look up guides online. It's much easier.

Of course I am. I must know what to do in game at some situations. I had many problems when I've played FR for the first time. I'm using internet ones of course.

I don't use walkthroughs that much, however I usually buy them after I've beaten the game once for maps and to know stuff I might not have known beforehand. But during the game, I don't really need them. There are plenty of help threads on PC and info on Serebii and Bulbapedia. XD Don't need the books much anymore, do we?
