FireRed hack: Weird Type Fun v1.93 (complete type swap hack)

I'm having issues with one of the moves in the game, Null Rush. Despite being a STAB physical move for my Diggersby, it is ultimately doing the least amount of damage compared to it's other non-stab physical moves.

I have now updated the download to 1.4! This one has more bug fixes and QoL stuff 💪

Hey, I'm loving the game so far! Question though: will you give us the full pokedex sprites? I think we'd all like to see them, even if they are in spoilers.
Thank you kindly! I made a sprite dump here of the full dex, it's not super aesthetic but it's got all of the mons and forms.

Does anyone have the pokemon type list and base stats?
Currently no, but I can start working on a documentation for it when I have the time!

Hey, I'm here again! I'm looking at item drop rates for completion and wanted to ask, does marowak have a thick club equivalent in this game and does any pokemon drop tiny mushroom and big mushroom? I want to make sure if the move relearner in island two is usable or not
Hi! The Marowak line does not have a Thick Club equivalent as a different pokémon has that instead. Tiny and big mushrooms are dropped by multiple pokémon, usually food types, but they're easiest to farm from the Tinkatink line in Navel Rock. The move relearner is unchanged!

This is actually an issue with Void type moves in general that I recently became aware of! I am currently looking into it, sorry for the hassle! I will add it to known issues o7

First of all, your sprite work is inmaculate. Seriously one of the best I've seen, everything is cute, cool or at least charming in an "aw you're so ugly!" way.
I'd like to ask, and maybe suggest, about evolution items. There are a few that are only obtainable by the isles, and a few of those are Eevee stones, which make using it... super unfun, since you'd basically need to bench it until you're almost at the end of the game. I know you can get some items around (got a Loud Whistle before Rock Tunnel), but I used it on Girafarig cause I didn't knew which Eeveelution to use (and kinda assumed you'd get all stones at the mall tbh).

I have a friend who enjoys masochistic solo type runs. Out of all the types in the game, which type is the hardest to come across? Also I forgot to ask when I mentioned Diggersby, what's the joke of it's typing being void? Because at first I thought it would be Toy. XD

Version updated to 1.5! Not so many or big changes this time, but the suggestion I reply to below was a great one and really fast to implement so I figured I might as well get it in instantly :D

Oh wow, thank you so much! This comment made my day ;__;

Also, this is an extremely good point. To be honest the evolution items were so scattered in the first place due to a remnant of me initially working with outdated information and tools. So! I added a clerk (to the same floor as the usual one) in the Dept. Store who sells most of the new evolution items! Thank you for the suggestion, I had not thought about this for such a long time it never occurred to me I now very much had the ability to adjust this 😅

This is a difficult question! I believe I made the distribution quite even, though the void type was initially supposed to be rarer than it is in this current version. If it's misery they're looking for though, the current bug of void type moves being underpowered would definitely add to that where numbers may not. IIRC early game has few cosmic types as well, but of course both Scorbunny and Lotad eventually evolve into cosmic types and are available pretty much instantly, not to mention I made the item that evolves an Eevee into a cosmic type purchasable way earlier now. So that might be a moot point depending on the rules regarding mons that obtain or switch types at evolution. Sorry, I'm not of much help here. I'll have to take a look at encounter tables and see if I notice a pattern!

As for Diggersby, the "lore" I thought up is that it and Bunnelby are modern forms of pokémon that were originally pure nature type (which their pokédex entries imply), and as such their type was literally bred out of them. While the wild version got their type by adorning themselves with flowers, this urban version dresses up in clothes instead but receives no power from it. A bit of a stretch I admit xD

Hey, thanks for listening! I've been loving this hack, and I can see it become one of those "I'll replay it with a challenge run/mono type/just a different team" ways. Should finish it first though.

I've got another comment to make, and I wanna clarify that I don't mean to be disrespectful or demand anything, it's more of a food for thought thing.

I've noticed that most mons have their vanilla BST, and it makes some of the designs feel a little weird, on top of some vanilla mons having pretty shitty spreads by default (poor Sunflora). Or another case I saw with Roselia line being a special attacker, but having Hustle (and on the other hand, Misdreavus with Huge Power is just incredible, so happy with my shiny). A few moves seem to be a bit randomly placed, like they could have made place for better choices. Like Sampo on Gossifleur is its last move before it evolves at 20, since Rock Smash is another Physical-type move. Now, I know Gossifleur has equal attacking stats, but Eldegoss is a distinguished special (80 vs 50). And it's a big gap to make up for when its only attacking moves are physical and you're running 50 Attack. Even the TMs aren't as helpful from the way from 1st to 2nd Gym

I know it's a lot of work, thoughts and labor, so this is more of a question if you'd have plans about it in the future. It's Gen 3 after all, and we have always played without being super optimal.

Which of trubbishs spawn locations has the best odds?because I've been looking around on route 24(the place with nugget bridge) and I'm not having great luck with it even on fast forward, I'm going to try to get one no matter how rare it is but knowing the best way to go about it would be nice, I love that little trash plush

It'd be nice if the Pokemon locations document listed their held items, learning I could steal stardust from mantyke early on was really good because money is a very limited resource before the first gym.

I would like to note that I enjoy the new types because you have elemental stuff like Chaos,Nature and Light, but also things like Knight, Dexterity ,Toy and Food, which refer to physical traits, fighting style and personality, it feels very true to the original philosophy of the Pokemon types, where it isn't just fire, water, etc but dark, fighting, bug, etc

I do have a nitpick about route 24 and 25, they seem mostly have the same Pokemon, I think maybe Cutiefly,Bellsprout or Bounsweet could be taken off one of those encounter tables, just so they feel less samey, I think it's like this in fire red as well but I don't like it there either tbh.

Keep up the good work by the way, I've been enjoying this rom hack for the most part.

No disrespect taken! In fact balance, movesets etc. for various mons is something I really want to improve upon in the future. I updated movesets rather quickly and without enough consideration after I implemented the physical special split, so while most (I hope 8D) mons benefited from it others for sure didn't. TM distribution is another thing that I have not put nearly enough thought into, especially now that they're infinite and actually quite viable to use in a playthrough.

While I admit I'm the furthest thing from a game designer myself, I've been offered help with balance related aspects of the hack which I am incredibly grateful and excited for! My current focus is trying to knock out a couple of the bugs in known issues that reeeally irritate me, but the first priority after that is absolutely cracking down on this kind of thing! I will absolutely take note of everything I've seen people mention as well, such as the issue you brought up with the Gossifleu line. Sure, improving the balance is a lot of work, but so very worth it!

And of course, many thanks for enjoying my rom, hopefully more so in the future! ^^

Based on my many test runs, I'd say Trubbish is easiest to find on the route above Vermilion City. And hehe, glad you like it!

I'm planning on making a list of pokémon that includes their types and bst since it was requested, and that document feels like a perfect place to include wild held items as well. Quite a few gem type pokémon have pearls, big pearls and even nuggets as possible held items as well. I also added some early pickup pokémon to help with money! But then, it's totally true that making this info available and accessible is something I proooobably should have thought of earlier haha 😅

I am also more than glad to adjust the encounter table on 24 and 25, esp since I've received requests that Sevii pokémon be made available earlier (which just makes me happy haha). It's effectively perfect that there's a route with so many easy slots to give to some of the currently post-game only pokémon!

Thanks a bunch and hope you continue to have a good time!

question though: is this romhack made in binary or decomp? I'd really like to know.

Also since I really liked the game, I thought to make a fan design for Arceus, hope you like it!

This was made in binary! I started working on it with zero experience save from years ago, so decomp looked scary and new to me haha. I'm extremely interested in moving on to decomp in the future, though!

And dsjkldjskls I love this! 😍 Using the beta design as a starting point is such a fun idea!

thanks friend! it's a pleasure to see you like my design! I hope I can make it better, feel free to give advice on how to make it more gen 3-ish. Looking forward to see Arceus if you're going to put it in the romhack, feel free to use my design if you so wish.

also cool that you started in binary, my first romhack is probably gonna be in binary as well! Looking forward to your future projects as well!

It's good to see this Hack getting the love it deserves. it's such a great hack idea and seeing it getting more and more polished is just a pleasure to behold

One small thing. i noticed you've got the spotlight in the AlteRed discord. maybe it would be a good idea to use some ideas from them like having an area to grind (like in AlteRed in the PokeCenter) and other small things. this is mostly for Casual playthroughs to get new team members up to speed or for people who want to do the Professor Oak Challenge (or for someone like me who plays on the 3DS xD)

I ended up posting two updates in one day hah, was only gonna do the stuff that is listed on the 1.6 changelist but immediately after updating the thread I found out how to fix a couple of long-standing issues, so in the end 1.7 happened today as well. With this I've got most of the really obvious bugs out of the picture and can hopefully slow down and actually take my time and post a proper big update with tangible fixes to balance and gameplay experience, rather than just rapid hotfixing galore.

Thank you so much for this, and keeping up with my updates too haha. I've been learning so much over the last couple of weeks it doesn't even feel real 🤣

I did and it's amazing aaa ;__; That's a great point as well. The only real grinding location I put in is by the Indigo Plateau which is really only good for endgame. I'm def adding this to the list of changes I'd like to implement sooner rather than later. Thank you!

Np. if it gets the final layers of polishing you've made an interesting hack and you can be proud of it ^^

Hey. I found something weird with the Phys/Special split like water make and witch bolt being physical or Fake out being special. Is it intended to be like that or just error?
Still love it though.

This is intended, the main reason is to give the Magic type some physical options and the Knight type special. Those types were kind of hard to balance equally in that regard, haha

Thank you! Looks like this is a well known issue that also affects Mew in WTF. I'll do my best to get it patched out ASAP

EDIT: Fixed now, both for Zygarde and Mew ☺️

thanks friend!

Also one question, how did you expand the pokemon list by adding other pokemon if the romhack was made in Binary? I'd really like to know
