I am dreading when I finally take the History requirement to graduate. I'm a Computer Engineering major, I hate history. It's just...memorization. :( Memorize what this guy did in this year and the effects of it, etc.

Heh. US universities and their desire to educate you in everything!

It's not all US Universities, just specific ones, it varies :P Like for example because I go to a Catholic school, they require that I also take two semesters of Theology which wouldn't be anywhere else, lol.

At least they have classes specifically for non-majors that make it easy to skate through the class.

History is quite fun as long as I'm not doing any papers on it. So I tend to have more fun in discussion and lecture oriented history courses.

yeah i'm exactly the same. history is a pain in the ass to write about.

i enjoy lectures for the most part tbh. and i learn and remember heaps from discussions!

It's more the concept of 'majoring' in something, as opposed to studying one subject exclusively, that strikes me as odd, I guess...

I dunno. It seems better than pigeonholing students into one specific field of study. We still spend around half (more or less) of our time focused on our major anyway so it's not like we're only getting a cursory education.

Study history, but don't major in it.
^This

I enjoy studying history, but I don't think I'd like to study it in school. I can learn it on my own pace, and even focus on areas that the schools might not choose to.

Twas my first post in DCC in what feels like years, and I came right in on a topic I'm interested in. Now what are the chances of that? XD

It's like the say: those who forget history are doomed to repeat it, those who remember it are doomed to flip burgers.

Go into science or medicine or kiss your hopes for a normal, comfortable life goodbye.

Oh, that seems so true. But regardless, if following my dreams mean I'll be flipping burgers for a lifetime, I'd have to consider it.

History can fall into two places with me. If it's about a time that I personally like, then it's the greatest subject on this planet. If it's about a time I'm not all that interested in, then I will drawing out an escape route.

I'm like this too. Most time periods and events of history interest me, but except for the 1929 Wall Street Crash and the subsequent Depression, economical events just bore me to death.

I'm interested in pre and post World War II Germany and pretty much nothing else, history wise.

World History, Pre-1500, and the US Civil War are mine.

Civil War era was my favorite part of History class my junior year of high school, and it was awesome because it also happened to be the theme for the Academic Decathlon that year. xD My history teacher was awesome and made sure he covered a lot of it for us. xD

I always loved World War II. If I ever had to pick a topic to write a report on or something, it was always a World War II topic. My Pearl Harbor paper was one of my best reports in middle school.

HISTORY IS BORING :(

trufax you guys
