What do you think about EVs/IVs?

What do you think of EVs?

In-game battles and the E4, Battle Frontier, Battle Subway, Battle Tower, and other battle places don't need EVs to be won, so really I like that they were made. If you want to play as a relaxed player, then don't use EVs, but if you are in a boring post-game and get into competitive battling, then why not take advantage of EVs?

IVs: Fine with them. Views it as a bit of variance between Pokemon, much like natures.

EVs: Eh. Likes the idea. Feels nice for your Pokemon to improve as you battle with it. Wishes for something less grindy and more intuitive. Perhaps, upon leveling up, pick a stat to invest in. Earns 1 star in that stat. Amounts to about 10 EVs in the current system. Allocates up to 51 stars, with a maximum of 25 per stat. May also get stars via vitamins or rare candies (including at level 100).

I feel similarly to Deva above. EVs are interesting, and I like the idea they have going for them, but they just do not seem implemented in the most enjoyable way. I'm thrilled that we have items to max out EVs now, which makes me able to avoid the actual feature of training against specific Pokémon for certain stats. May not be the most popular idea but I wish we had something Super Training-like again, along with an addition that allowed for easy EV resets. For a game that encourages you to get attached to your Pokémon, it would be nice if you could 'fix' them easily rather than end up boxing your story team at the end like a lot of people do because their stats were messed up completely. The better accessibility when it comes to gaining and resetting EVs is better now in SV since you can wipe and re—apply them without the need for battling more easily, but I guess I do wonder if this will continue into future games. Also it is available a little late into the game.

IVs I am okay with. Not much more to say there!

If you're a game developer and you think you have interesting and well-made mechanics, would you try to show them, or do your best to hide them?

The way they allways sneak these mechanics says a lot. It's not something any developer would be proud of, the less players have to think about them, the better.

IVs are a time waster. It's not something to have fun with, it's just an RNG annoyance for people who know they exist to worry about.

EVs are better since at least you can control them and they add more strategy to team building, but the way they're earned in the games is rather dumb. Having to defeat specific Pokémon to earn specific EVs while avoiding fighting others that give EVs you don't want is just unnatural to the games' flow. So at the end, it's better to grind against low level Pokémon or spend a lot of money on vitamins to build each Pokémon correctly and avoid earning unwanted EVs.

They know well that these mechanics are a product of their time, and that's why modern Pokémon games give you some tools and QoL to deal with them, but that's the thing: they're just "patching" those mechanics in an attempt to make them somewhat less annoying, but they aren't doing anything to make them enjoyable.

They're a nuisance I never even bothered with till two things happened:
    1) EV's had their vitamin limit removed. Vitamin EV's once capped out at 100. You can now just max your EV's with Vitamins. It's a bit expensive, but if you raid somewhat regularly it's not a problem and it beats having to go faint dozens upon dozes of Pokemon.
    2) IV's can now just be Hyper Trained. Bottle caps can even be bought now, making them trivial to get.
