What do you want to see in a Hack?

Ah yeah also meanmrmustad wrote that he's adding them all in Pokemon Diamond, his Gold hack.

I hate weird tree tiles but I like good

In my opinion, what makes a good hack is organized, professional looking graphics. A good pallet can go a long way for a good hack. :)

Graphics aren't always everything about a hack, and you should know that. What the hack really depends on are good events and scripts and a good long story, instead of something like-"It's your birthday! You wake up, get a pokemon and start your journey!" And I have seen stories like that. But you're also right in a way, most people get attracted by the graphics, but a good mixture of good events, scripts and graphics are the main components of a great hack.

I'd like to see a hack of the Hey You Pikachu! game that's for N64, with more areas to it, and more things to do with Pikachu, also with Pikachu understanding more words

i want to see enough space in a rom to fit all the sinnoh pokemon, not just 25.

I'd like to see a hack that you could be evil in alot like the Pokemon Rockets Revenge (that's in development) and there was Pokemon light and darkness which was one that oyu could choose your side in (development was stopped). Being evil and having a differant storyline would be great because I'm getting sick of the typical storyline collect 8 badges and fight the elite 4 all hacks are based around it almost.

Just my opinion though.

A hack with the main being evil would be so awesome! I would love to play one! Because really, we get tired of being the good guy all the time!

Oh, another idea; it would be really hard but how about the pokemon catching the trainers? I mean, you're the main pokemon that goes out into the world of trainers XD Sorry if this may have already been suggested. And the trainers have sorts of attacks like stuff that we would do in real life i.e. I saw someone made a gif of this type of battle and they pitted the girl and boy of Ruby & Sapphire. The girl's attacks included Groin Kick and Fart.
That would make a funny as game.

A good hack - good scripts.
Also really rweird and creative things e.g. your rival falls in love with the gym leader.

OFF TOPIC: 100th POST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)

I'd like to see a hack of the Yellow Version just cause I've never played a Yellow hack before, I think no one has made one yet

Just to spice things up a bit, I like to maybe see a Tactics style game. I personaly really liked the system in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. It'd be cool to have the trainer as anactive member in the battles. Maybe have different "fields" and objectives or different style battles. For example, battles against wild pokemon would be completely open and the wild pokemon could attack the trainer. Agaisnt other trainers the field would be a set size. But against baddies (Like Team Rocket) it'd be a kinda free for all Where the battle can also end of you knock out the opposing trainer.
As for a story line. I think we should keep the gyms and elite four since it part of the inrastructure of the pokemon world, but a quest which shifts the focus from them would be nice. There are ancient ruins scattered all over the official games, why not have that as the focus? The main character could be a young achiologist assistant who is part of a team of archeologist who discover a massive underground labrynth and your job is map the interior. From there, you could have Zelda style puzzles. And being that you play as an employee, the company your work for would have a varity of pokemon avalible; to keep people from hogging all the good ones, they would be issued on a timer system. That is, you have to return them after so many turns. Of course it'd be crap if you leveled something up like 10 levels and then lost it, so on your employee id card there'd be record of stuff like that. the more levels on your ID card the high level pokemon are avalible to you. As for the actual story, I don't really know. But there is ancient ruins and a Labyrnth, surely something interesting would happen. And something else that would be really cool. Instead of just a night and day system, why not have a days of the week system too. And since you are exploring as part of a company, why not get paychecks and time off, That is; after you work your required time you can go do stuff like sidequests or catch and train your own pokemon or even complete the gyms. I thought it was really cool in the Lost in Blue games where if you didn't sleep your character would begin to begin to fall over asleep.
Okay, I know it's beginning to sound like a sim, but I'm not suggesting all these things be placed in the same game (I would scream at a dungeon crawler with a tactics based battle system). Also, I realize that half of what I said above would be really hard or impossible, but I'm just throwing out ideas. Like the guys at the begining of this thread were saying, the old formula is stale and needs something fresh.
Even with all this creative juice, I really don't have a way to make it a reality, that is, aside from some Basic I used to write programs for te TI-83 and TI-84 calculators, I have no programing skills. I tried using Game Maker 7, but it bent me over it's knee and beat me like a 6 year old red headed step child.....that is, I'm a self proclaimed moron when comes to hacking. I did manage to install patches using IPSWin, but that is about it. (If you know that patcher, then you have realized the extend of my ROM hcking abilities. Sad, I know.) Anyway, that being said, if anyone would like to let me work with them and teach me towards creating something towards similar to what I layed out above I'd really appriciate it.

i want to see enough space in a rom to fit all the sinnoh pokemon, not just 25.

...You realise that the Pokemon don't take up much space (after 25, it's like there's no difference in free space), right? It's the fact that there aren't enough free Pokemon slots. :\

I can't believe this is what people believe.
I think the reason no-one bothers adding more than the 25 slots in between is that there are too many things that would need to be repointed to get it to work. Here's just the things I can think of right now: Evolution Data, Names, Base Stat Data, Front Image Table, Back Image Table, Icon Pointer Table, Pokemon Number 'Chart' and most likely more.
I never bothered trying it because I just thought that all the work really wasn't worth all the trouble you'd go through to get them in the first place. Also because I'm incredibly lazy.

EDIT: Thought of a couple more, cries and moveset pointer table.

I am a fan of GSC remake hacks, but I would like to see a GCS remake hack that doesn't have trainers that wwan't in the orginal, I would like to play the same story with the same trainers, maps and music.

However there are some things that are not do able in in 3rd Gen, which I can live with that if they cleverly change it like:

Let the Mom give the Running Shoes instead of the VS Seeker named the PokeGear until someone finds a way of hacking the PokeGear into 3rd Gen games.

Make that Pokeball maker in Azalia Town (I forgot his name) sell you special balls like the Timer Ball.

Find some way of someone giving you the VS Seeker.

And many more things, if I had the time and patients, I would learn how to script and inset tiles and make my own GSC Remake adding in the things I said, but I am not to say there are no good GSC hacks out there, they just don't appeal to me.

i would like a hack there you either play as Team rocket GBA, or fightin against em. Since all the new teams are bad. Even in the real versions.
I hate the team in Diamond&Pearl for example they're ugly, xD

Well try to make something evil in it, that makes the game more fun.

The best hack that someone could make is a hack where:
-the starters are: Charmander, Squirtle, Bulbasaur,
-there are all 493 (all pokemons from 1,2,3 and 4 serie),
-we start in kanto, then after getting all 8 badges and beating league we go to johto, then to hoenn and finally to sinnoh,
-we can catch ALL pokemons (including all legends and starting pokemons).
If someone could make a hack like that in my opinion it could be hack of the year.

You'd vote for that.

We wouldn't.

It would be wwaaaay too unoriginal.

That and it's nigh on impossible, even on a 32MB ROM, to include every region.

And, even if it was possible, you'd have nothing else. Simply maps. There'd be little room left if at all in the ROM to actually make the game interesting with scripts. :/

Wow... I'd really like to see completely new Pokemon, Trainers, Gyms, Maps, All things completely edited! That would be a reallo long hack though... But still! That's what I like! XD
