I usually give stupid names, but now I am trying and will succeed to give names with a deeper meaning.

Like, the last pokémon I nicknamed was a Solrock. I named it Amaterasu, the Japanese Sun Goddess.

I named myself (on fire red) trogdor and my rival Chubby.

But I named my squirtle Leonardo because hes a turtle and hes a frickin ninja!!!

I usually nickname them, but I think in earlier games, like Red, I never did. I can't speak for other titles before the GBA ones.

On my DS version I did name them after FFXII characters:
Empoleon: Drace (yes, it's a female!)
Rapidash: Basch
Gengar: Bergan
Staraptor: Ghis
Luxray: Gabranth
Leafeon: Zargabaath

As for Sapphire, after UK Gladiators:

Blaziken: Inferno (f)
Absol: Oblivion (m)
Flygon: Atlas (m)
Manectric: Spartan (m)
Gyarados: Tempest (f)
Lairon: Battleaxe (f)

And for FireRed, I named them after cousins and a close friend of mine:

Wartortle: Fox (m)
Pidgeotto: Ciara (f)
Kadabra: Mark (my friend)
Nidorino: Reace
Nidorina: Kimberley

I'm also going to use Hitmonlee and call it Theo :)

I give all my pokemon nicknames. =) heh I haven't got many pokemon at the moment because I restarted but here are a few:

Turtwig (sp?)- Tarzan ahahaha I use the nicknames so much I forget how to spell the new names.

Raven

and Sparki

=) I use the nicknames so much I forget the actual pokemon names. I'm such an idiot with a bad memory.

I loove nicknaming my Pokemon x3;
Since I draw so much, I draw my Pokemon and they usually have a lot of personality C: So I usually come up with names for them.
The names I pick are usually from their personality, their Japanese names (or parts of them), or just random letters mashed together that made something cool D; *shot*

Wooper - Flop (Its the sound he makes when he falls over~ xD)
Tropius - Broccoli
Houndoom - Kuudan
Raichu - Bichuubi
Flygon - Rain
Kecleon - Thalamand (I tried to say "Salamander" but Accidentally said "Thalamander" Thus his name is the condensed version xD)

And that's just my main team |3

I used to. Pretty much just whatever popped into my head. Like, I named my Torchick "Peckers" lol. And I had a Lotad named "Nowayjose" haha.

I always nickname mine, I feel that it tends to give them a sort of connection, like it makes me feel more confident when I use them in battle. My main ones are...
Slaking - Tina
Alakazam - Einstein
Salamence - Titan
Shedinja - Halo
Togekiss - Eggland
Lucario - Headstrong

Heres some of the names ive gived to my pokemon.
Swampert=Aaron
Alacazam=Starcaster
Missdrevious now missmagneus=littlemiss
Empolion=general
Empolion (i have two)=Sargent
Luxray=Commander
Starraptor=Hawk
Electivive=Sparkgiant
Dialga=Mankind
Arceus=God
Blastoise=MASTER
Salamance=Shadow
there are lots more........

I never nickname my Pokémon as I prefer the original names. I can never seem to think of anything fitting to call them...;)

You should have put "sometimes" as an option...
Anyway, I voted yes, due to the fact I have nicknamed a few of my Pokemon, including my Rayquaza, which is named Emerald, hence my username. :)

I usually name the ones that I plan on using a lot, or if I think of something funny. Most of them are named after tv shows I like. Here's a few of the ones that came to mind.

TV/Movie Characters: (high fives if you know what they are from)
Murderface - Garchomp
Face Bones - Rampardos
Pickles - Empoleon
Sgt. Hatred - Tyranitar
Mirage - Milotic
Mentok - Alakazam
Zapp - Manectric

Stupid Ones
*Sparkles* - Dialga
Pufferkin - Blissey
Pecker - Staravia
Shocker - Luxray
Boo-Bee - Vespiquen

I feel bad for anyone who gets one of mine in a GTS trade. :)

Haha I give my pokemon epic nicknames.
Here are some examples:
Electivire:Alexander(Reference to the Great Alexander)
Slowking:Zeus(Reference to the Greek King of Gods)
...and so forth other nicknames that refer back to great people in our world.:D

No. Nicknames generally confuse me. Before I trade any Pokemon though, I name them all Bellsprout so the new owner can't change it (MUWHAHAHA).

I always name them! =3 But I use caps for it:

Kricketot: bUG

Buneary: HAPPYbunny

chimchar: babyEMBER
awesome............huh? huh? huh?:laugh::)

The most obvious one's I gave the nickname Maddy, to my Blastoise,and the name Turt, to my Turtwig.

I nickname my pokemon but I don't think it's alright to say what they are (might get in trouble) but the one's that are named are
darkri:death angle
pickichu:mr.wire
purugly:looky me

I nicknamed my first pokemon today. I nicknamed my Riolu Ryolu lol the Y looks so much cooler lol

Ahh, Nicknames.
I never nicknamed my Pokémon till the third-gen, but have been doing so ever since..
I reckon I could list some, though...
Feraligatr - Snappy Joe
Slowbro - Speedy
Donphan - Rollin
Arcanine - Foxtrot
Bellosom - Foli
Ampharos - Sheepish
Tyrannitar - MegaQuake=)
Lucario - AuraBLAST!
Blissey - Eggeh

Houndour - Rawr
Torterra - Atilla
Luxray - Tripped
Swampert - Epic
Charizard - Flyte
Meganium - Chico

Anyway, as far as Nicknames go, I try to use something that has meaning, or is totally ironic..
