I tend to name 'em. Right now I'm doing the Ultimate Monotype Challenge, and I've been naming them the same thing from generation to generation. Like all my Nidokings are called "Lord" and all my Golbata and Crobats are names "Archer". They're all kinda along the lines of medieval times and mythology.
I either...
- Let them be called what they are usually called
- Give them a weird name if i don't use them (like iLiek for a Mudkipz and SexyBeast/Sexmaker for Ditto)
- Japanese name they are usually called in Japanese version
- Japanese/History/Comic reference name. (Stalin for Registeel (AKA Man of Steel) or Iceman for Regice or Kaisen for Zangoose since Kaisen is Japanese for Battle and Zangoose battles Seviper
- Random name i think is cool at first then hate later (Like Astro for Gastly)
I usually nickname my pokemon if i can think of anything at the time. I have thought up a few funny ones, like Meditite which i called Onion XD Well, because its head looks like an onion! And Machop was Toaster because it looks like its got bread coming out of its head. lol
I normally base my nicknames around latin translations. For example, I named my Crobat "Virus" and my Torterra "Ortus" after the latin names for "Poison" and "Garden" respectively.
I basically name my Pokemon on how I think they look. IE. My Infernape is Sun Wukong from the Journey West and my Machamp is Titan cause... well he's huge and hits like a truck XD
I always have to nickname mine... I hate the CAPS ABUSE OF THE NORMAL NAMES. They're usually non-silly, or often references to other things. Examples:
A'Tuin the Torterra
Ben the Raticate
Othello the Rapidash
Banshee the Absol
Tamaki the Jolteon
Headbanger the Rampardos
Ulysses the Blastoise
Temeraire the Charizard
Shisha the Arcanine
On double-battle teams I like to give them matching names... For instance, my Houndoom/Togekiss pair are names Crowley and Aziraphale, respectively, after the main characters of one of my favorite books.
My favorites :
Umbreon - Midnight
Ninetales - Volcano
Cloyster - Coldy
Charizard - Pixy
Lol I know they aren't exactly original, but I liked those the most
I used to call my roserade 'ROSE RED'. Now that is not very different :/. Garchomp was called 'DRACONIUM' after the dragon booster anime. I niknamed my Infernape 'DEMOLISHER' as it was used for sweeping in- game. I niknamed my snorlax ' BOOM BLAST' for no apparent reason :/. My empoleon 'AQUA BLAST' as it was water type and I was not able to come up with some other name.
