Fennekin. This was an easy choice for me: I like foxes and fire types and was very happy to choose it. Fortunately I also like all of its evolutions, even though I had to get used to them a bit. I would even have chosen it if it became a Fire/Fighting type, but I am also pleased with its real final typing.
 
I guess I'm in the severe minority here. @_@; Chespin female for me. I highly prefer female Pokemon for some reason which is a habit that I picked up in the fifth gen so that of course carried over. Plus Chespin was adorable and underrated so I had to give it a try. :) Still dislike its evolutions, though. sigh
 
I chose Froakie, although I initially wanted Fennekin. However, Froakie got replaced easily by the Lapras that's given to you later in the game.
 
On my Y version, I chose Chespin (Male) because its final evolution was crazy and, at the time, was my favorite of the bunch. I still love Chesnaught but I'm starting to like Delphox as well.
On my X version, I chose Fennekin (Male) since it's my second favorite. I love Delphox's cry, I love its typing, and I had already gotten a surfer so I didn't need Froakie.
In the next version I'll probably get Froakie.
 
Froakie, a common male. I love water types and well it's a ninja frog! :D
 
Out of the 5 games I have (3 of Y and 2 of X) all 5 times I have chosen Fennekin (I love all 3 of its evolutions - I just love Delphox the most), 4 times it has been male.
 
Male Froakie on X, I rarely get a female started at the start of the game. I haven't restarted the game and probably never will until a new pokemon game comes out and I transfer everything over.

I have been wanting to get Y, but I still haven't gotten it.
 
I wanted to balance out the starters, so with the free Torchic- I went with Chespin, and then got Squirtle to round them out.
 
If this is for one game, I went with my Pokémon X (primary one) and I chose Froakie as my starter since I was pleased with Greninja's design. It was a female one, and nicknamed her Lotus since I was having trouble finding a nice female ninja name for her.

If that Froakie was male, I would have gone with Hayabusa.
 
In Y I chose fennekin, it was female and so I named it Flandre.

I was a little disappointed when it fully evolved so when I played X I chose froakie.
 
as soon as word spread that fenniken's final evo wasn't gonna be fire/fighting for the 4th generation in a row i went straight for fennekin and man that thing is beast with its HA magician
 
I chose Fennekin, because Wiazrds/Witches are better than Ninjas. :P

I've grown to like Greninja after using one competitively though...

My first file of X, I got a female Fennekin. When I restarted, I got a male Chespin, and right now, on my first file of Y, I got a female Froakie :3
 
I had wanted Fennekin since the X/Y starters were first announced, but when I saw all the evolutionary lines I had to go with Froakie instead. He was a boy, as expected.

He didn't really stay in my party for long though, after he evolved into Greninja I just kinda boxed and forgot about him.
 
I chose (and always will) Fennekin - female :3 As soon as I saw the starters and Fennekin was the Fire-type, I was sold!

I too, think Delphox has a somewhat more feminine look so that's why I will always pick Fennekin as a female ;)
 
I chose Fennekin on my Y and I think it was male but I'm not sure. I chose Chespin on my X and it was male and I used him all game. I never chose Froakie but tbqh all of our starters this gen are actually quite good.
