    DAMNIT I WAS JUST GONNA MAKE A STARTER THREAD WHY DO PEOPLE KEEP SHOWING UP BEFORE I DO

    1: Charmander is the first I picked for this gen and the only one I had ever brought to the league. However I do have a Venusaur in one of my runs and would like to take him all the way. Squirtle is my least fav of the 3, but I don't hate it.

    2: Totodile. Feraligatr is amazing nuff said. Originally I used to like all 3, but soon I began to see a lot of praise for the Cyndaquil line on this site, making me lose a lot of respect for it. However, I came around to using it this year and it proved to be decent so don't hate it anymore.

    3: Mudkip was my first here. I am also using Sceptile in a nuzrun and it's not that bad. Never used Torchic but it's okay. Don't have issues with any of the starters in this gen.

    4: I like all 3 of them eaqually, but if I had to choose than Piplup but all 3 were good.

    5: I don't particularly like anyone.

    Yellow- I mainly used Seel and Abra
    Crystal- Cyndaquil
    Sapphire- Treecko
    Firered- Charmander
    Black 2- Snivy
    Y- Fennekin/Squirtle
    X- Froakie
    Omega Ruby- Mudkip
     
    With the exception of Gen 6, I've played all the games more than once so uh.. I'll just pick the most recent one I can remember I suppose.
    Blue - Bulbasaur
    Sure it sucks at battling in Gen 1 but I wanted to use the Brock Through Walls glitch, for which you need a Bulbasaur. It worked and was a ton of fun. Then I dropped it in the PC and never used it again :/
    Crystal - Chikorita
    It learns Razor Leaf at level six in Gen 2 that is so absurdly awesome ^_^
    FireRed - no clue. Probably the game I've played the most, so it's all blurred together and I have no idea what my current team is on any given run. The only constant is Farfetch'd.
    Emerald - Torchic
    Torchic is a cutie and I wanted to name it Nuclear in celebration of Aventine's birthday. Other than that, not much of a reason. It stomps the first gym, but so do the other two choices so idk.
    Diamond - Chimchar
    It's soooo good. For whatever reason, I catch Pokémon way less frequently in Sinnoh because the region sucks so it's nice to have a Pokémon that can insta-stomp the first two gyms + Team Galactic while I take my sweet time picking my next team member.
    Platinum - Piplup
    Wanted to do something different from ^, because I've played Diamond a good dozen times and basically pick Infernape for half of them. Empoleon seems kind of meh in battle tbh. Maybe I just got a bad nature?
    Black - Snivy
    Not really much to say I don't think. It did an okay job.
    Black 2 - Oshawott
    It's a cutie and that's the one game where I'd advocate picking a water starter since you don't get the Super Rod until post-game for some reason.
    X - Chespin
    I honestly don't remember the logic behind this, but its final evolution seems to be a decent physical sweeper so I guess I picked well. Run like hell when the birds show up though.
    AlphaSapphire - Mudkip

    These are all first play-through that I can remember to the best of my ability.
     
    Just going to say the first time I played which starter I picked for the sake of simplicity... since I like a lot of them and I've played each games like dozens of times
    Kanto: Charmander. This is the only Kanto starter I've ever picked.
    Johto: Cyndaquil. Quilava was one of my favorites as a child!
    Hoenn: Treecko. Another one of my childhood favorites!
    Sinnoh: I think I picked Piplup, but I honestly can't remember that well...
    Unova: Snivy... only because the other evolutions made me cringe.
    Kalos: Froakie, same reason as Snivy.

    Fire: 2; Grass: 2; Water: 2

    Oh gosh, they're tied.
     
    Here's what my typical choices were. Keep in mind Johto is based on me playing HG/SS since I didn't have the originals, and Sinnoh had me doing multiple playthroughs (the one I listed is based on what I used in most of them). Never played a main Kanto game though.

    Johto: Cyndaquil
    Hoenn: Mudkip
    Sinnoh: Chimchar
    Unova: Oshawott
    Kalos: Froakie

    As you can see, I tend to mainly pick Water while somehow never picking Grass. For Alola, I'm pretty much confirmed to stick with Water. #teampopplio

    Kalos: Fennekin
    Alola: Litten

    I do use other Starters from time to time, but in most of my playthroughs, I tend to pick the Fire Starter. I also always pick Fire on my very first playthrough of a game.
     
    Gen 1: Charmander - love this little guy
    Gen 2: Cyndaquil - I have always been a fan of Cyndaquil and always seem to pick it when revisiting Johto.
    Gen 3: Mudkip - I guess I have to say Mudkip cause it was my first ever Generation 3 starter, although I tend to choose Treecko nowadays.
    Gen 4: I love Chimchar and all of his evolutions and 90% I'll pick him, Piplup is pretty cool too though.
    Gen 5: I actually really like Snivy and its whole evolution line and always end up choosing it, they have really cool designs and learn some pretty good moves.
    Gen 6: Froakie, it's the only 6th generation starter I really like tbh, I would probably have gone with Fennekin, but Delphox let me down.
     
    While I haven't played all Pokemon games, here are the starters I'd pick, mainly for design reasons:
    • Kanto - Charizard (but I like Squirtle too)
    • Johto - Chikorita
    • Hoenn - Torchic
    • Sinnoh - Piplup
    • Unova - Snivy (Oshawott looks the cutest of the starters but its evolutions aren't that nice imo)
    • Kalos - Froakie (I love Greninja)
    • Alola - Rowlet

    Gen 1-Pikachu as I had Yellow
    Gen 2- Totodile on Silver and Chikorita on Crystal
    Gen 3- Treecko on Sapphire and Mudkip on Emerald
    Gen 4- Chimchar on Pearl and piplup on Platinum
    Gen 5-Snivy on white Tepig on Black and Oshawott on Black 2
    Gen 6- Froakie on X

    I think it's safe to say I have a partial preference to Fire-type starters.
