We've had discussions on what we're hoping for and not hoping for, and numerous discussions on the probability of these things actually happening. But at the end of the day, all speculation and rumours are equal - we're not going to know for sure until trailers and the games are actually out as to what is in them.

So let's have a little fun with that. Of all of your ideas and theories, of all the things you've heard about the games so far coming from fans/questionable sources, of all the ones you can't quite believe or want to believe...what would surprise you the most, if it turned out to actually be true? What's the one rumour/theory/thought that would shock you the most if it was actually in the games?

For the purpose of this thread, it does not matter how likely or unlikely it is in reality, so please do not start on about how it won't happen. The whole point is that it would be shocking if it did because of how unlikely it seems.

While I had hoped that a couple features from past games would make a comeback, I would be surprised if it were to actually happen. That's something that Game Freak has been particularly famous for, is to make a special feature for each Gen and to not have it make a comeback in preceding games. The only exception to this that I can think of right now has been Trainer Customization.

I'd be quite surprised if the game had you founding a cult dedicated to resurrecting an evil goat-lord who can breathe fire and enjoys feasting on children...

On a more serious note I think for me the most surprising thing would be if they didn't bring back Mega evolutions. I fully expect to see quite a few more Megas in these games or otherwise the whole mechanic might start to feel a little silly! I'd also be surprised to see more Alola-forms of Kanto Pokémon in favour of later generations as they're sorely needed.

A generic one, but I'd be very surprised if we actually ended up getting new Pokémon. GF has never introduced Pokémon mid-gen before, so it'd be quite the shakeup.

New Pokémon mid generation. I'm expecting for there to be new forms but I'd be very surprised if we saw actual new species of Pokémon, particularly evolutions of existing Pokémon from Alola.

I will actually be surprised if we get following Pokemon. I just don't know how they'll be able to do it and make it look good on a non-grid game.

I'd be surprised if gyms don't make a return.

The first games made it clear that the Pokemon League/Gym system was in its infancy, and I have a feeling that they will exist in place of the more primitive trial system, or at least exist alongside them.

Alola forms for Pokemon from other generations other than 2. That would be something.

No, the Gen 2 Pokemon should receive Alolan forms the most, Gen 1 is already hogging all the spotlight, Gen 3 has gotten a lot of attention already with remakes and Megas, Gen 4 and 5 Pokemon are pretty popular and newer relative to Gen 2 and Gen 6 doesn't need any and Gen 7 Pokemon are already Alolan.

Yeah, I'd be pretty much surprised to see new pokemon. We're still in Generation VII and it has been unprecedented before where GF didn't introduce new Pokemon mid-gen. People were speculating about those since before ORAS.

Also, if we don't see new Z-moves, I'd be shocked.

Like Phyrrhic, I'd probably be most surprised if the Trials were retained instead of the Gyms that have been speculated. Especially when you consider that by the end of S/M's story, Kukui was starting his own league in Alola.

I wouldn't be surprised because all of the rumors and so called leaks are garbage in my opinion. None of them are realistic enough to come true. I accept whatever is in the game though i still won't tolerate lillie.

New Pokémon mid-Gen would surprise me most, but I have the feeling USUM are really gonna take us by surprise, partly due to lack of information revealed so far.

    New Pokémon
    Returning features (PWT, following Pokémon)
    Bike
    HMs.

Two things in particular would surprise me a lot, even though they're talked about quite often.

That is the game having a second region and also them introducing a 7.5 generation of brand new Pokemon.

On one hand they feel like just the kind of curve ball they could throw at us....but they're still curve balls even if they're among the more predictable ones.

Gen 7.5 is not happening thankfully. Gen 6.5 didn't happen. The very talk of new pokemon mid gen is absurd and annoying. Not realistic at all.

What surprises me is if these games are indeed third version since we had not had one since Platinum.

US/UM are more along the lines of B2/W2. They are a secondary paired version that adds new features and has a completely different story to the original pairs, unlike third versions such as Emerald and Platinum which are the same stories as their predecessor but only tweaked to a minor degree.

I'd say it's more of a mix between a third version and a sequel. Two games like sequels, but the story is just altered like in third versions.

Of course, this is just a prediction from what we've seen.

That was also what B2/W2 was, in that it had the typical third version features like Move Tutors being available in the game.
