What's Twitter?

    It seems that over the past few months people around me have started using these things on the internet that, franky, I simply just see no point in or that I've simply never heard of before. My mother now uses facebook, if that's not scary enough she's over the age mark of 50. Now I know what facebook is and I know what it's for, but It's not my cup of tea and I get bored of updating fast. Apparently facebook isn't enough anymore though, which leads me to my initial question.

    What's Twitter?

    What the heck is it, and why do we need it? So far my entire knowledge of the 'twitter scene' has been summed up in this nice flash movie:

    Now can anyone tell me that this doesn't sum it up? If you can explain it better, Please do, because I simply don't see the point in just randomly typing out your mundane everyday going-ons for whoever has time to burn on the internet to read.

    well that's a peak into my brain this evening.
     
    Twitter is the second Anti-Christ, it forces you to tell the world your feelings in 160 characters and heaps of celebrities use it, which is how it got famous.

    Twitter/=/seizure.
     
    I have a neglected Twitter.. Honestly, I think Twitter is pointless. >__>; Might as well talk to people over MSN, or call them, or use Myspace, or talk to them on here.. instead of Twittering to them.

    Who the hell cares if someone is making a sandwich?! D:

    Twitter is the Status update app on EVERY other website now days, given its own website, for who knows what reason.

    Actually.. I won't even start..xD; -shuts up-
     
    I dislike it. I still can't upload an Avatar, or whatever twitter calls it.
    Plus, I'd rather be doing something productive like posting here instead of wasting 5 seconds saying "I'm going to Walmart to pick up socks."
    All those five second posts add up, don'tchaknow?
     
    Twitter for me is useless. All you do is post blurbs about your life. And anyone this one girl died twittering in the shower so meh I have some hate for it. But whatever if people want to waste time telling the net about their lives instead of living it fine.
     
    None of you properly understand Twitter, dammit. No one understands it until they USE IT EXCESSIVELY.
     
    I use Twitter so I don't spam up my LJ with useless updates. :p

    Twitter is my favourite ever omg.

    There are some people on my follow list who do the whole "HI I'M UPDATING WITH EVERY MUNDANE ACTION I'M DOING" (and I'll admit to being guilty of it now and then) but for the most part, it's like... kind of like a big group convo?

    My favourite part is that it's so easy to access from a phone. A few online friends that I'd otherwise completely lose touch with are able to keep up with twitter because they can send/receive texts with it. When I'm out and about, I can just pop on and check twitter to see what everyone's up to and give an update myself. (This is amazingly helpful when you're stuck in traffic, stuck at the hospital/doctor's, etc. Relieves boredom like you wouldn't believe. XD)

    MSN doesn't always work--I can't use it when I'm on the road, nor is it very helpful at work where I don't have Java installed (no web messenger) and can't download an actual client. So instead, I talk to people on twitter. Since a fairly significant group of us all have it and have each other followed, we see each other's tweets and can all respond. It really is like a group convo except it just moves a bit slower. That's not ideal, but sometimes you just take what you can get.

    I dunno, it's a nice way to keep in touch. Even if you're just updating on what you're doing, it keeps people up to date and... I dunno. It's one of those things that seems really stupid before you start using it and once you do use it (with a few others to keep you hooked as well), it becomes one of your favourite sites.

    I got a twitter account.
    And looked at it.
    And decided to not even try. |D;;

    And now I have two people following me?

    I have a Twitter somewhere, but I only made it to say that I had one when people asked. I don't use it much, but after reading Lightning's comment I think I might start. XD It sound's pretty addictive.
     
    Hahaha, Twitter's turned Erica into a salesperson.
