The first anime I watched, like most here, was probably Pokémon and I still do today. I used to wake up every day at 6:00 A.M, since they run it early, and watch new episodes of Pokémon. After that, I started watching Naruto a bit, then Dragon Ball, then everything else.

  • I started watching Digimon when I was 4, and when I was 5-ish I got a box of Pokemon disks that my mom mistook for Digimon /headdesk. But it wasn't that bad, and I basically got introduced to anime through those series.

  • During elementary school, I used to watch Pokémon in the afternoon, at 4, it was on.
One Saturday, Pokémon wasn't on, so I was watching Looney Toons, when Dragon Ball Z came on. The 'big kids' always talked about it, so it was automatically cool.
By the time I realized Pokémon wasn't just a Japanese cartoon, I'd been watching Toonami, and when Fullmetal Alchemist appeared, I began to love anime.

I think it was last year when I was watching TV.

I don't watch it that much anymore.

I feel like Pokemon or Sailor Moon was one of the first anime shows I started watching, so I must of been around four or five. In general I like the genre, but I was never a hardcore anime fan. To this day there are a very select few anime shows/movies I have ever really watched. I guess that just goes to show why I'm barely ever in this section. :3

  • Like most of you, I grew up on Pokemon, DBZ, and Yu-Gi-Oh. I just never grew out of it, I suppose.
I would stay up late on Saturday nights watching Cartoon Network's Toonami. Spirited Away, Inu-Yasha, Cowboy Bebop and the like.
After my cousin introduced me to DeathNote, my love for anime exploded. He then showed me others such as FMA and stuff and yeah... Now I'm a regular anime watcher but I know where the line is.

I'm not going to watch anime instead of doing homework and I'm not going to keep talking about it to people who don't want to listen. Sometimes I'll attend anime conventions with some other of my anime loving friends and stuff but it's just a hobby.

It just irks me when I overhear other people in my school talking about how anime is 'basically porn' and stuff. Not all anime's are like that and sometimes people think that I'm some perverted weirdo just because I like watching anime and reading manga. -_- But then again, some anime like 'Elfen Lied' need that gore and nudity because it just... It's hard to explain. The anime wouldn't have been as moving as it would of been without it.
That and some people don't want to be friends with me just because I watch anime and attend conventions. @_@

It's a fine hobby, it's good fun and brings people who like it together. And as my parents say, 'it's better than doing drugs out on the street'. XD

I think that some people don't have a love for it because they were exposed to different things when they were kids. I was exposed to alot of anime and videogames from my cousins when I was a kid so that's what I became interested in. My little sister and brother were not exposed to much anime and videogames when they were children so they just don't like it.

DBZ is what started me off. I watched all of it then started watching more mature animes like Death Note and Bleach on Adult Swim when I was older.

WTF? Talk about having a limited mindset. :cer_pissed: :pink_pissed: Pokemon, Digimon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Naruto, Fullmetal Alchemist, InuYasha, Bleach, One Piece, Dragon Ball Z...plenty of the more notable anime are more action-oriented or adventure-oriented (catering to the shonen (young boy) and Kodomomuke (children's) genres, seemingly). Sheesh. Anime should not be getting a bad reputation like that...

Anyway, my first recollections of anime involvement are probably with Pokemon and Digimon around 1998-2000. Yu-Gi-Oh! was probably one to three year later, before 2004. Later on, I watched the butchered One Piece 4Kids dub on the FoxBox network, back before I knew how many edits the original work had withstanded... :cer_cry: I'm thinking in 2005 was when I got a firmer grip on what 'anime' was, as I got into Naruto and was exposed to InuYasha, Fullmetal Alchemist, Dragon Ball Z, and Ghost In The Shell. I also started reading more manga and ADV anime-oriented brochures. Thank goodness for Toonami (R.I.P. :() and Adult Swim! Now I've catapulted into the realm of anime, exploring new shows and manga ever since. :)

  • hm, as i recall i started watching Pokémon/Digimon/Medabots/Megaman and the like when i was really young. I think i saw Sailor Moon someday on a foreign channel too and ever since wondered how i could watch it again. Though at the time i didn't know it was called Sailor Moon, even ..

my first real experience with japanese anime was when my (online) friend advised me to watch an anime with him. Although i maybe shouldn't have agreed, as watching FullMetal Alchemist as a 9-year-old probably wasn't the smartest thing to do.

i ended up not finishing FMA back then though, as it scared me a little XD; andihatedwhenHughesdied.
after that, i watched Full Moon wo Sagashite in full, again advised by the same friend. I loved that one, so from then on i started watching anime by myself.

in conclusion.. it must've been in 5th grade, so 2003/04 that i started watching anime.

  • I pretty much got into anime the day an ex-friend of mine sent me a link to the first episode of Bleach on YouTube(back before Google bought the site). I started Naruto, Sailor Moon, and Fullmetal Alchemist shortly thereafter, and I've been addicted ever since. :D

I don't really remember how, to be honest; it was a few years ago. I used to watch Pokémon, Digimon, even Bleach, but I did not know they were all called 'anime'. So, if some unknown reason, I ended up on MyAnimeList.

  • Well, first came Pokemon and Sailor Moon. Had no idea they were called "anime", especially since the former (Pokemon) was also a video game.

Then in the summer before 3rd grade, I saw someone reading a manga book. I did not know it was a manga book, but found it weird that they were reading it right-to-left. So I got mom to take me to Barnes & Noble, where I bought the same book (Di Gi Charat volume 1, by the way), along with a more mature manga (Ranma 1/2 volume 2; my mom and I did not see the 16+ rating, and mom pointed it out because of Ryoga in pig form).

I also thank 4Kids for contributing to my interest in anime~

  • Yeah, it all started with Pokemon and Sailor Moon for me as well. I usually got the videos of them from the library, since I had no idea when they aired on television. Of course, every Saturday I would tune into 4Kids and watch whatever was on there. I remember seeing Tokyo Mew Mew Power, Kirby, Yu-Gi-Oh, and countless others. I was also watching Digimon as well for a short time. This was all during the ages of 7-10, when I had no idea what anime even was.

Then, in 6th grade, I saw one of my friends reading manga. I was curious, since I didn't know a thing about it. She explained to me what it was and lent me some. I read them all in one night and became obsessed. I finally learned that what I had been watching in my childhood actually came from Japan and was called anime. I've been reading and watching anime/manga ever since.

  • it all started w/ pokemon, but my interest in anime/manga in general really cultivated in 5th grade when i drew it really well and wanted more material to work from. Now i like manga simply because i enjoy the way it immerses the reader more into the story

  • I started with Albator and The Misterious Cities of Gold. Actually, my family and I were visiting close people, my cousin and his sister, my aunt and of course my uncle. When we arrived, they were watching Albator so we joined them and we enjoyed watching it.
We also discovered The Misterious Cities of Gold as well.
Later, at school, even after classes had finished, I had to stay there. So to kill the time I was watching TV --> France Truc. That's the name of the show I liked to watch at the time. They diffused Detective Conan, and this way I learned more about the anime itself.
All that, it was when I was at primary school. Also I knew Full Metal Alchemist at the time.
Little by little, I've been looking for more animes and I've become what I am today.

So I've been into Animes since I'm little.
