    Yeah,I know,one of those cheesy "Which is better?" polls.
     
    Windows Vista; and under the subtitle of Vista I'll include Windows 7 (as it's essentially Vista SP3). Why would you use an 8 year old operating system; when not just one - but TWO! releases have brought to the table far more in terms of features, technology and reliability.
     
    I have to say XP I have it on my laptop that im using right now.
     
    Depends on your computer. If you've got a newer computer with more RAM, Vista will run fine and dandy and shouldn't be noticably slower than XP. If you've got less than 1GB of ram, and your CPU's a little outdated though, Vista will suck the speed out of your computer like nobody's buisness, due to it's policy of caching all your favorite apps in RAM, and thus, eating it all. Oh, and the indexing will thrash your CPU.

    So, yeah. If your computers up to it, Vista's certainly nicer. If it's not, Vista will be a monumental pain, and miles slower than XP.
     
    I personally prefer XP. It's less complicated and stuff. I know Solitare is sexier on it, but, It's hella expensive considering my budget.
     
    My hand goes to Vista/7 It's come a long way since that horribly complicated original release.
     
    Vista, I've enjoyed using it since I got it and maybe it's because of my laptop, but it outperforms my XP desktop. And I like the way it looks.
     
    It's not a very good question; each has its merits in specific situations. On older hardware, XP will be better because it'll run smoother than Vista/7. However, even I'll acknowledge that XP is starting to look a bit dated with the upcoming release of Windows 7; if you expect to use any hardware-intensive applications, you're going to want to upgrade your hardware anyway, so you may as well get Vista/7 (or OS X or Linux or whatever).
     
    i like vista but i bet windows 7 will be better thats why i want to buy a laptop now so i can get the free upgrade

    :( I can't stand XP anymore after making the switch. (Mind you, I basically went from 2000 to Vista so I never got much time with XP anyway.) I use XP on my netbook and it feels so restrictive after getting used to Vista on my main laptop. It's so depressing opening the start menu and starting to type in the name of the program I want to use and then realizing I actually have to click through the menus ffffff. And that's just one thing; there are plenty of other little additions that make Vista more usable and preferable and that's not even touching on the major overhauls and safety betterments.

    Though, if you're using it on a computer that can't handle Vista, you probably need a new one anyway. :<

    I hate the bad rep Vista got from day one. :( I'm glad Seven is being so well received because it's just another step up but at least people will recognize it this time.
     
    Since I play both old and new games, XP is better for me. I'm a long-standing gamer and I want to retain my backwards compatability. While these things still can be done in Vista, it is only accomplished with a great deal of trouble.
    Anything Vista can do that XP can't is not necessitated by any hardware progression. Until there's USB 4.0 and 128-bit processors, it's a waste of money for most people to simply keep up to date with the market for the sake of having something 'new'.

    Vista has a XP compatibility mode (which works well most of the time, mind you).
     
    C'mon, Vista works nice and awesome. It may be because 2 Gigabytes of RAM can't usually fail but... gawd. If you don't like Vista then upgrade your freaking Dinosaur already.
     
    I have Vista Ultimate on my desktop and XP on my netbook. Vista's better, but your system has to be up to snuff.
