6th Gen Who wants to play the same thing again?

    I don't get remakes, why would i buy something i already played :/ A whole new Pokemon game would be alot better, We could implemente a lot of things from Emerald, sapphire into a WHOLE New Game with lots to do, Right? So why buy and play something i already did when there could be alot of potential into something brand new.
     
    Remakes let them revisit and revitalize old ideas with new hardware, new ideas, and new mechanics.

    Also, if we didn't get remakes, we would just get fewer games. Generations 1, 2, and 5 had no remakes, but, even still, we just got the main paired versions and then a third version. The "third version" for Generation 5 was a pair of sequels, but it's still a pair of games pretty much the same, so it might as well be one game.

    If I had to choose between Gen VI having just XYZ or XYZ plus some remakes, I'm going to go for some remakes.
     
    Well judging by how well the previous remakes have went, I'd assume lots of people like playing them :p

    Some are more nostalgic than others I suppose.
     
    Yes, I would enjoy a remake for Ruby, Sapphire after looking at how good those games were with newer mechanics, but if they had someone dedicated to Pokemon working in the department for the games, We could see something really off the charts. If only i was in charge of creating a 3ds game for them. I could produce a big hit.

    Because theres too great of a chance that a rushed new region would greatly underdeliver. But of course, times change. The six and seven-year-olds who grew up with Ruby and Sapphire are in high school now, and now there's widespread nostalgia for Hoenn, I haven't changed my mind about some things in Ruby and Sapphire. I still think the regional Pokedex is flawed, with too much filler like Luvdisc, Pelipper, and Mightyena. Though the region itself requires a ton of changes potentially fixed up. The best remakes are the ones that bring the old content into the present while retaining its playability. With a Ruby and Sapphire remake, Game Freak can address many of the issues in the original games, and in a roundabout way, improve on what X/Y failed to do and a remake would be wise to rectify that.

    Ruby and Sapphire are incredibly outdated games. Just look at how much the Pokémon series has evolved since 2003: 335 new pokémon species, 263 new attacks, 111 new abilites, Physical/Special split, online battles and trades, reusable TMs, hidden abilities, fairy-type, PSS, Pokémon-Amie, Super training, Horde battles, etc...
     
    For newcomers to experience a dated region with a fresh feel, the franchise is aimed at the younger generation who odds are haven't had the opportunity to play through Ruby & Sapphire. Not only that but there comes a time when games really do become outdated against the current generation, with the Physical/Special split and what not and the standard graphics I'd say we're about due for something just like this.
     
    Remakes kind of work in two ways.

    Remakes allow people who never played the old games to play them on updated hardware. While Nintendo could just release a direct port it would be less appealing to the newer audience since it is a downgrade from what they are used to. They also wouldn't be able to have the games interact with the new ones if they did a direct port. I suppose they could do a port +Alpha, which is when a little new content is added (In theory you could consider Emerald a port +Alpha.) But that could take a considerable amount of effort when you consider that the people who worked on R/S/E would probably have to relearn the tools they used to code those games originally (It has been over 10 years after all.)

    Remakes play on nostalgia. Which regardless of anyone's opinion on nostalgia is a valid thing to market towards. It allows people who have either lost their old games or are unable to take advantage of features that are really only brought to life with interaction from other players (Battles, secret bases, and trading) to relive their experience. In addition systems that may not have been as well refined as we would have preferred can be expanded upon and made better.
    Not to mention they are cheaper to produce than an entirely new game made from scratch. (Both due to not having to invest more money in a writing team and due to having a lot of code already completed.)
     
    I think it's worth it. Remakes allow for the old games to be enjoyed with modern graphics, new features and overall enhanced gameplay, while still preserving the original core that made everyone purchase it the first time around. I know I had just as much fun playing FireRed as I did playing Red, and the same goes for Silver and SoulSilver. Since Hoenn is my favorite region, I can assume with a degree of confidence that this trend continues with ORAS. n__n;

    Also, there's the replay-ability factor that Pokemon brings to the table. Not many series could pull off selling remakes, but since the games have such a high replay-ability, it's easy to find a reason to develop renovations of the old games. Instead of having the fans restart their old cartridge, they get to play a game that is visually brand-new, but just as entertaining as the original!
     
    I would gladly play the same thing if the only difference was X/Y graphics.

    I'd gladly play it if it was exactly the same on the R/S but on the 3DS. Same graphics, game, etc. As long as it could trade directly to X/Y.
     
    Pokemon remakes are essentially a different game altogether. Tell me, how much different is RGBY from FRLG? GSC from HGSS? (Aside from the general story, of course.) There's a huge difference in those games. They make remakes to appease the "older" crowd AND to update those old, outdated games to use the newer features that they introduced.
     
    Well they always add a little extra to the remakes so there's more to do and missing Pokémon to catch. I just feel Hoenn remakes weren't necessary because most of the Pokémon Hoenn is remembered for are available in X and Y anyway. The original remakes FRLG catered to nostalgia, yes, but they were also a cheap way of filling a Pokédex which missed most of the Kanto and Johto Pokémon upon release of RS. If you could get all of the Pokémon within RSE there would never have been a FRLG.

    X and Y don't have all the Pokémon, however, and the new remakes should address this issue. How, I don't know.

    Based off of what they did in HeartGold and SoulSilver - where they released them as "remakes" of Gold and Silver but included many elements of Crystal's story - it is very likely that we will see a slightly modified story more akin to Emerald's. Another proof of a modified story is the box art - they're making a huge fuss about how the legendaries in the game and box art don't look the same. So it's likely there will be a modified story in the fact that Groudon and Kyogre (and by extension, probably Rayquaza) get Mega Evolutions or new forms.

    Same reason why we got FRLG and HGSS. Coz we love their predecessors and we want to rekindle that nostalgia with a fresh face of new things that has been introduced since then.

    Well one, there are kids who've never played the originals. From a business standpoint, remakes (especially after more than a decade since the original's release) are a welcome idea, seeing as it'll rake in money from both the parents of the kids who weren't born when RS originally came out, and people who've played the originals and want to relive their nostalgia.

    HeartGold and Soulsilver did exactly what you said in your first post. They took elements from Crystal and added them to the story of Gold and Silver. They also updated the game with all the new mechanics that was implemented over the years. So it's not just the same game over and over. Remakes always have extra new mechanics that make the games more fresh and interesting , but still keep a good amount of the old mechanics that make it nostalgic to people. Plus it allows people who didn't play the originals, cause either they were too young or had no interest in Pokemon at the time, to experience a new world and story. Also as otehr's mentioned, Ruby and Sapphire are pretty outdated now. I was replaying my Sapphire today and I was mentally comparing how different it was to X and Y. The graphics are so small and simple compare to the detailed and large scaled graphics of x and Y. In X and Y , you can see the player's full body and while in RS, you only see his body from aerial view pretty much. Just imaging how much better and more pretty the towns of Hoenn will look in 3D already blows my mind. ( Plus ,and this is more of a side note, the systems are way bigger now. The GBA SP I have to play Sapphire on feels so small in my hands, while the 3DS XL I have to play X and Y is more comfortable. It's so awkward going from holding a big 3DS XL to a small Gameboy Advanced SP. And the 3DS has way more power. It really shows how much things have evolved since 2003.)
     
    You could make a NEW game, SET in Hoenn. Using all the same locations, even the same evil team.

    But why not write a new script, a new scenario where new things happen in Hoenn.

    Just because we are going back to Hoenn doesn't mean we HAVE TO replay the exact same events over and over.

    Maybe this time Team Sky Wants to make more Sky for flying pokemon...

    Or     in the Absence of Team Aqua/Magma, Corporations have polluted the Hoenn region. You must reunite the Evil Team to stop Devon Corp(?) from poisoning the planet.

    Because there are still a lot of people who love playing Pokémon games who haven't played the earlier versions. They don't have the hardware to play them, and quite frankly, almost every game cartridge I've seen out there of these games that's available for sale on places like eBay are hacked versions. Putting these games on new hardware would make it possible for a new generation to enjoy these older games. And by updating the games it gives players who've already played these games an entirely new gaming experience.
     
    Remakes are just that, mate. Remakes. You play something long ago, and you feel it had a good gameplay and/or a good story that you started missing when you went through generations. After seeing the Pokémon games jump into an even stronger console, after seeing they chucked out DS, too. To save yourself from dying of thirst by nostalgia, remakes are made. If you didn't play the original RSE properly, you might not know this.
