They should since many drugs kill and one example is a cigarette.
Many shops sell that even though all illegal drugs can kill.
So shouldn't many shops be closed down?

    Because cigarettes aren't illegal, deary.

^That, and if it were made illegal, people would just start boot-legging them, and that would cause even more deaths, and arrests, and etc.

So it wouldn't be worth it. It's a person's choice to smoke.

    This is America.
    Since when was America perfect?

Prohibiting a popular item is stupid. The only way it would actually work is if you make people want to quit smoking.

in the uk each year 114,000 people die from cigarettes
wow thats where i come from

I would read into the history of prohibition my friend. Making things illegal does nothing to stop their flow and always creates a black market that does more harm than good.

Curtis mum has smoked since she was 13 and nothing has happened to her.. I think we should make drinking illegal since many die from that- driving when drunk, ruinning your liver and dieing waiting for a transplant.. so yeah drinking illegal.

yeah thats actually a good theory
my dad nearly done drink driving once...

Read the 18th Amendment (Prohibition) Then read what happened afterward. All I'm gonna say.

Just look back at when America made Alcohol Illegal. Crime Rates went up, and there we a whole bunch of others things, like bootlegging and that of the sort.

Making Cigarettes would do the same thing, and though us Americans ain't the smartest of the bunch, we at least know those consequences, and not want to repeat history.

    ... Pretty much what ~Bloodex said above me as well. XD;

Well there are enough awareness commercials, billboards, and everything else to warn people of the dangers of smoking. I think it's up to the person to choose whether or not they'll buy a pack of cigarettes. Banning them altogether would probably make more uneeded problems.

they should be though since many die

Just because they should be doesn't mean they are.
Shops aren't going to close until they are made illegal if they ever are.
But making them illegal with mean cigarretes will be sold by drug dealers who kill for territory and start violent street gangs.

Making cigarettes illegal would do more harm then good.

Dealers would see the sudden need for an illegal way to obtain cigarettes, and take advantage of it. They'd make cheap ones, using even more dangerous chemicals, and sell them for more than they are sold for now, and we'd buy them, because of how addictive nicotine is.

Same if they made alcohol illegal. Dealers would start to sell it. And we all know how dangerous dealers can be. It would also cause an rise in the amount of dealers out there, and how active they are. Which could cause problems for the police.

Plus, since when did you need to close down a whole shop to stop people from buying one product?

EDIT: Ah, you're 10 I see. You'll understand all of this fully when you grow older.

they should be though since many die
It's a little too late to make them illegal.

    1. They make too much money.
    2. Too many people smoke.

It would only cause harm to the economy if they made it illegal.

Plus people know what smoking does to them. If they keep on smoking, or start smoking, that's their own choice and they chose the consequences that may come of it.

Making something illegal doesn't mean people will stop buying it. It just makes the law seem stupid. Read: marijuana, piracy, patenting, copyright, obscenity...

If you want people to stop smoking just get the government to put huge taxes on cigarettes. People hate taxes so they won't buy cigarettes. Oh, wait, government <3 the tobacco industry. Nevermind.
Your theory fails, though. Taxes on cigarettes are already huge, and people still buy them. They just go broke in the process.

Cigs are a legalized poison. We sell them because people will get addicted to them, slowly kill themselves, and spend all of their money doing so.

It's all about the benjamins, bud.

Nothing positive has EVER come out of cigs existing or being legal. It ruins lives with no positives.

But this is America: Where you are free to eat, drink, and smoke yourself to death.

I say tax the hell out of them. I know there's already a huge tax on them, but why not take it even higher? Seems like it'd be better for the government, what with people potentially living longer and continuing to pay taxes. Dead people aren't profitable.
