Adeline and her classmates were briefly awakened from their torpor by the sounds of a battle taking place outside on the grounds, the sounds from it drifting up toward the classroom's open windows. They rose slightly in their desks, straining to see a bit of the battle before the teacher rapped his desk sharply with a meter stick. They gave a collective sigh before sinking back into their lethargy.
"Did you see who it was?" Adeline asked Ian, later, when they'd been assigned questions out of their textbooks.
"Kyle something-or-other...a junior, I think. And some kid I didn't recognize...must've been a first-year."
"Who won?"
"The freshman, I think."
"Almost unsurprising, in a way. Beginner's luck?"
"Probably."
When the lunch bell finally rang (double periods were incredibly painful), Adeline headed off toward the Hall again, meeting with Kintaro on the way. He was wearing plaid boxers now, and his hide looked shinier than before.
"Did you go for a swim?"
"Yeah."
"Have fun?"
"Oh yeah, Mindy was there. She gave me an' some others a ride around the pool a couple times. But that was after that dude with the Staryu left...he was ogling females," Kintaro added with disgust.
Adeline suppressed a giggle. Machop was the juvenile form of his evolutionary line, so the fighting pokemon was still young, albeit rather cynical.
"Say, I think they've got tacos for lunch again," said Adeline, changing the subject.
