I can't really say that I've heard that much evidence that would compel me to upgrade from W7, that being said, I've really been focusing more on the beta previews of Mac OS Lion rather than Windows 8. (this is due to being able to legally obtain copies of mentioned betas)

anyone care to list off what is supposed to be improving from W7 or added in to make W8 superior?

I just think it's basically the same thing as 7. I'm assuming it's an upgrade in terms of security. I don't think I'd want to jump right in until I'm told what's REALLY inside of it.

If this becomes available (which I'm pretty sure it would soon...legally), I'll give it a try. But I have no plans on buying it when it comes out, I'll just stick with 7 for another few months after release.

There's actually a lot of Windows 8 blogs floating around the internet. Windows 8 does have a few significant feature changes of which the number will only increase as the beta legally approaches.

Guys, don't mistake Windows 8 for a replica of 7 because the taskbar and icons look the same. The Login system and task management systems have had a huge overall, just to name a few things.

At the moment, I can't be bothered downloading can't legally get a copy of either Windows 8 or Lion, so I'll just stick with my current system. I will, however, jump on the beta, via Technet.

Gerri, I'm sad that you're the only one in this thread not to make a crossout joke, so far.

oops, no crossouts, hmmm. I suppose I could find some way to legally obtain a copy of some of these betas.

Windows 8 is still under development and will be released next year it will not only be a OS for a pc but for tablets too, and most likely will have laptops coming out which you can plug your tablet into the back and work on your laptop like a on the move edition

Would you upgrade from Windows 7 to 8, and if you won't, why not?
I don't see myself upgrading even from 95/98 and XP — that's just what works for me.
Certainly wouldn't bother from 7, if I used that — I don't think 8 would be worth the retail price for one step up.
I could be content with a dual boot 98/8 computer though, if that's workable, so you never know... Regarding Windows 8, apathy is the greatest force affecting me for now, so like Gerri Shin, I'd like to see an improvement list, although one that compares more than just 7 and 8.

From what I've been reading, all future versions of Windows will be incremental upgrades from previous versions. (Allegedly, the version number for Windows 8 is NT 6.2, just as 7 is actually NT 6.1)

The most noticeable change I read about so far is to the minimize, maximize/restore down, and close buttons, in which the corresponding symbols do not appear inside buttons at all.

When Windows Vista was in its early development stage as "Longhorn", it used a visual theme ("Plex") with the window title centered on the title bar. No official release of Windows has had this since Windows NT 3.51, released a few months before Windows 95.

Windows Longhorn and Windows Vista are 2 COMPLETELY different OSes, Vista had issues, longhorn had WinFS and had a bunch of things Vista failed to do, Vista is a fail lightened version of Longhorn IF Longhorn did get completed Windows 7 would be a completely different moster. Now back on topic, I've seen a vid of W8 in youtube (No idea if it's real), I gotta say it made aaaaaaaaall the hairs on my back stand up, it looked amazing. I can see myself upgrading IF it doesn't need 2 gigs of ram and a 512mb graphic card with a dual core 2ghz and up lol, knowing windows as well as I do x3 -sigh-

Longhorn was the codename for the early Vista, and lots of experimental features were shoved out in favor of a swift release.

I'm sorry to say but not even the final UI (Which was to be released in the Retail version of longhorn) Looks alike to Vista, the took the Alpha of longhorn, removed things and named it Vista. I did manage to use Longhorn (Uuuuh.... Google) It's nothing like Vista, that alpha was even faster and way stable-er than Vista was, plus, it had a new experimental web browser, WinFS was pretty good (Considering it was an Alpha) Idk, I could be stupidly wrong but I still believe Longhorn is a compltely separate OS from Vista.

Oh, and Windows Longhorn was based off XP, the requirements where a 64mb gfx card for aero 256mb of ram and a 800mhz procesor or faster.

And not to forget, there was even a few computer manufactures that had already even put "Windows Longhorn" stickers on their to be sold Desktops

Upon further self-research, Windows Longhorn became the codename for Windows Server 2008 after the release of Vista, though Server 2008 and Vista share the same Windows version (6.0). I had stumbled across some beta CDs for both Server 2008 and Vista at work for a project I was working on, with both of these referring to each beta form as Windows Longhorn. So, basically, Windows Longhorn was the codename for Windows 6.0. It should be noted that Windows Server 2008 does not have Aero included because Windows Server 2008 is geared toward performance.
