wisdom teeth

I just had mine removed three months ago, this past November. They healed up to where I was able to eat normally again after a week, but I had a really smooth recovery too.

As for the actual procedure, the only things I remember were being nervous as hell in the waiting room, going into the surgery room, being cold so they put a warm blanket over me, and they put some laughing gas on me almost immediately and I was out within five minutes. The last memory I had (which was really fuzzy, even) was when the anesthesiologist suddenly appeared and they were putting the IV in, but I was too out of it to even feel anything. I was completely unconscious for a good hour, and don't even remember anything after that until I was already in the car on the way home. I do have a few veeery fuzzy, vague memories of being in the recovery room with the nurse telling my mom the care procedure and buckling my seat belt, but that was it. I don't remember the procedure whatsoever.

The anesthesia wore off really fast too, I was up and about within about three hours, though I was still a little dizzy.

I'm like destinedjagold, 23 and no wisdom teeth. I've been visiting the dentist every 6 months and she tells me that my teeth are all fine. :x

I got all four of mine removed in September last year. It wasn't as bad as I expected it to be. Afterwards I felt like my jaw was protuding outward and I couldn't swallow or eating anything. I had to live of icecream which I had to slowly learn to eat haha. Aside from that and the constant stream of blood and slavia that poured out of my mouth it wasn't that bad.

Hmm... it's all a blur for me, really. The pain I remember was BEFORE I had the procedure done... after that, poof, numbness and then... I felt fine. I had all four taken out, and I went under. I was out of it all week. But I think for some reason I ended up spending at least half of it at my friend's house.

I recently had all four removed, everyone was telling me about how much pain I'd be in etc. etc., but in all honesty it wasn't that bad. I just took regular panadol (regular painkillers) during the day, and took the strong ones the dentist gave me at night so it'd last through the night.

The swelling was annoying, though, my face was swollen up like a balloon, argh.. it didn't swell up until the next day, though.

The first night, because of the anaesthetics, I couldn't feel the lower part of my face (bottom lip and chin), and that is the weirdest sensation! My lip felt so weird haha
I could only have liquids the first day, through a straw, because I couldn't feel anything. Also the drooling and blood was annoying.. and changing the swab things that they put in your mouth at the beginning was a bit annoying, but I got the hang of it quickly.

The Anaesthetics didn't really affect me too bad, once I was awake I was functioning normally. But, of course, the effects of it varies greatly from person to person.

And I got to have heaps of jelly and chocolate moose and custard, so that was great! And after a few days I got to have pasta (I can swallow cooked swirly pasta whole, I don't need to chew, and noodles, and then also after a week macaroni and cheese, yummy! :D And I didn't have to do anything for a week, which was soo awesome, haha!

I've been needing to get my wisdom teeth out for a while, but we haven't had the money. Now my dad's working on getting it done for me, but I'm terrified to death for it, because my jaw is really messed up. Not sure why, the dentist's assistant called it TMJ and my dentist told me it's common for teenagers and it's due to stress, and will probably go away on its own. But it's only gotten worse; now my jaw opens crooked with a few cracks, I have to kind of manipulate it to get it open, which makes eating and yawning difficult. It gives me headaches sometimes too. But I'm scared because they'll have to open my mouth while I'm under, and I'm afraid they're going to have to dislocate it or something to get it open all the way, and not being able to close it properly or something... just thinking about it makes me downright horrified. ;-;

The fact I'll probably need surgery to fix my jaw anyway which only makes it worse. I've heard terrible horror stories of people having their jaws wired shut after jaw surgery to recover and then getting sick from the pain medication and throwing up in their mouths which aren't able to open. gaaaahhhhh nopenopenopenopenope.

I got all four of my wisdom teeth removed last July. It was pretty painful. There was a lot of blood coming out, and I was feeling so sleepy after the anaesthetic. The good thing was that I got to eat a lot of ice cream afterwards.

I had mine removed years ago; it was more one of those "well there might be complications down the road so we'll get rid of them just in case" deals.

Honestly, I don't remember there being too much to it. Went in, was given something to put me to sleep, woke up right about the time they were finishing up. Not even that much pain involved on my end - I do remember sobbing as I woke up, but I think that was just a reaction to the anaesthetic because I remember my first thought being something like "oh god they pulled my teeth I miss them now baw", lol. Even my recovery wasn't too bad, was given painkillers but I actually only needed to use up about half of them, if even that many. The most annoying part of it was more "how do I eat this stuff for now grr".

(Although given some reactions I've seen to getting those teeth pulled, I might have just been lucky that mine wasn't worse? I dunno.)

Unlike Andy, all four of my wisdom teeth grew in sideways and gave me issues.

I already had two removed, the two on my left side. It was my decision to only remove those to start with, so I could keep eating and recover faster. What I remember most about the surgery was the absolute feeling of relief when the one on the top was removed. I could just feel the space starting right then, and the pain in my jaw on that side just ended then.

The recovery wasn't horrible. I'd recommend to not watching anything guaranteed to make you laugh the same night after surgery. I did that, laughing at the television show Modern Family, and it wasn't good. Blood everywhere. But other than that, as long as I kept on top of my medicine (taking the pain meds when needed) and taking it easy at work, things were fine.

Now I still have to get the two on my right side removed. Those ones are really impacted, which is why I waited. The surgeon's going to have to cut into the gum, which was a little too much for me to handle back then. There's also just the cost of the procedure, and I want to see what's covered by my new insurance so I'll know how much I'll be paying.

I was super lucky when it came to my wisdom teeth.

I only have two, both on the left side. Neither of them are in the way, and they don't need to be removed... at least, not yet, one of them might be, but they said the chances of that were slim.
