6th Gen X/Y Quick Q&A (Read First Post)

I've ordered Pokemon Y, and when I get it I want do try a mystery egg challenge, since I've heard that X/Y is not as hard as the other games.

What I'm wondering though, is 1) can I catch other pokemon as long as I leave them in the PC boxes, 2) when would the challenge end in pokemon X/Y, and 3) what do I do about HMs?

Thanks.

What's the quickest step-by-step procedure to minimize a pokemon's friendship, that received 49 level ups, such that Frustration is at its highest power? Without trading or Luxury Ball.

1) Yes
2) Your challenge would end when you defeat the Champion
3) As far as I know, you are allowed an HM slave if you really need one. You just can't use it in battles.

If you got the money for it, buy a crapload of herb items from the herbal medicine store in Lumiose. Using those bitter herbs on a Pokemon lowers its friendship. Why Frustration though?

what is better ability for Sylveon: cute charm or Pixilate? Also just letting you know. I don't have BW2 so I have no way of getting evee with hyper voice.

Pixilate is considered the better ability, but given you can't get Hyper Voice at the moment I'm afraid you're out of luck when it comes to using the ability effectively. In the competitive scene, Cute Charm with Moonblast is still a viable alternative if one can't get Pixilate with Hyper Voice.

So, in the big picture Pixilate is the better one since Normal-type moves affected by Pixilate get a power boost along with becoming Fairy-type moves.

yeah but only normal type move I consider worth using is return and considering Sylveon has pitiful Attack stat... And I really like Moonblast attack...
Also I am not quite sure about Competitive scene but I just want to use it for Battle Masion and few Random Online matches maybe.

Hyper Voice is a specially-based Normal move Sylveon gets. However, an Anticipation Eevee obtained in Black 2/White 2 has to be used, as Hyper Voice is a move tutor in those games and X/Y doesn't have that tutor. First, teach that Eevee Hyper Voice, then transfer it over via Poke Bank.

problem with it... I don't have Black 2 or White 2... so no HA evee for Gen V for me...

maybe I can get one if OR/AS has a move tutor that teaches Hyper voice...

another question is the move round good option for pokemon with Pixilate?

Viable yes. Good no.
Try... Echoed Voice if you can. Crazy fun move in game. Even when Normal type.

Pixillate Hyper Beams and Facades...

Disagreed. Echoed Voice takes a bit too much time to get going to full power, and Sylveon may get forced out before the move hits its maximum power. Hyper Beam is terrible because the recharge turn makes Sylveon setup bait and Facade is best used with status abusers.

What starter?

Hey guys!

I recently ordered X and a red 3DS but I am pulling my hair out over what starter to pick(as always). Can you guys help me out and give me some insight into what starter you chose and what makes them good?

Take care,
Obi

Well, what Pokémon are you planning to have on your team? I personally went with Chespin, as it's been a while since I had last chosen a grass-type starter, haha.

It really all comes down to personal preference, at least to me.

I personally chose Fennekin at the start of the game, and I do not regret that decision. Not only is Fennekin super cute, but it is also very strong in-game. In fact, Fennekin (and its evos) can defeat 7 out of the 8 Kalos Gyms single-handed! The only gym that will give it problems is the Rock-type Gym, so make sure you have a different Pokemon to handle that gym. Anyway, Fennekin has a lot of things going for it: It has high special attack and speed, thus it will usually attack first. Furthermore, when it evolves into Delphox, it becomes a Fire / Psychic type. While the typing isn't all that great defensively, it makes Delphox a monster offensively. Delphox's only flaw in-game is its shallow move pool. It mostly learns Fire and Psychic moves upon level-up, but don't let that discourage you from using it! It's still a very strong choice in-game. I really enjoyed using Fennekin, and maybe you will, too. As someone already mentioned though, it all comes down to the Pokemon you plan on having on your team and which starter you personally like the best. I hope I was able to help. :)

Feebas' DW/Hidden ability of Adaptability is the same in X/Y as it is in B/W/B2/W2. In X/Y, Feebas gained another regular ability in Oblivious.

You need to turn the 3DS upside down as soon as the level-up message appears ([Pokemon] grew to Lv. [number]!) as far as I'm aware if you're leveling up in battle. If using a Rare Candy I think you might have to turn upside down before using the Rare Candy but I haven't tried it myself so someone could correct me if they know the method.

Oh, and you can evolve it starting at Level 30.

I can give a little breakdown on each starter to help with your decision.

Chespin and its evolution line lean more towards the physical side of the stat spectrum, having high Attack and Defense, although it is the slowest of the three. It gains a Fighting-type upon evolution to Chesnaught, but that combination that results is pretty heavy on weaknesses so make sure you've got a team built to handle Chesnaught's weaknesses. It does at least learn a decent amount of good TM moves so it's still good in its own right.

As mentioned earlier, Fennekin's line is based mainly around Sp. Attack but has some good Sp. Defense and Speed, but is lacking on the physical-based side. Delphox gains a secondary Psychic-type and it can surprisingly handle a good majority of in-game opponents but the main issue it suffers is a more shallow movepool compared to the other two starters. It's still pretty good though so don't get discouraged.

Froakie and its line are the fastest of the Kalos starters but have some balanced Attack and Sp. Attack backing it up. It learns some really good attacks and it also becomes Dark-type as Greninja giving it an immunity to Psychic moves. I used this one during my playthrough and I was pretty pleased with it, so definitely look into this ninja frog as a good starter. Probably my pick of the three but again it depends on the team you're using.

So, as mentioned before it's down to personal preference but still all three are really good so there won't be much of a bad decision here. No matter who you end up choosing, I wish you good luck with your playthrough!

Thank you so much =) I've decided to go with greninja and have formed a team around it :) Once again, thanks!
