    Are you a story topper?

Now be honest, are you a story topper? One of these people who need to come out with a better story than what has been told? Or can't you stand these people who think they are awesome and have better experiences than you?

    Discuss.

Not really in all honesty As the Overlord it is a trivial fact that I am better than everyone else!

Nope. I love when a topic of stories comes up and myself and whoever else can go back and forth with similar stories, but I'm not looking to top them, I'm just sharing. There have been times where I've noticed the other person is trying to top my stories, but it doesn't really bother me. I rather hear a good story even if you're just trying to one up me.

I just like listening to other people's stories; there's no real desire on my part to 'beat' them with my own awesome story. For one thing, I'm terrible at telling anecdotes, so even if I did have an amazing tale, I'd probably screw it up in the execution. In any event, I'm much more of a listener than a talker, so the joy of listening is good enough for me.

I might do this sometimes without realizing it. I'm just so pleased when I have some story to contribute that's even remotely related to what other people are talking about. Intentionally trying to top someone else would just be overkill though.

But in general I'm like Cat Dog, a listener.

Yes lool. :x like IRL when we had interviewing practice I was partnered with the tutor who had to interview me about his life--my life not his lol and I just kinda told my whole life story to him since I overheard others and they were nowhere near exciting idk I'm very competitive in nature so I always must have the best. Luckily around here nobody can easily beat a court case to get guardianship of me as well as a hole in the heart as a kid so thus I am likely to have the best.

HOWEVER if we're not talking about life stories and struggles and rather experiences I just shut up, idk I'd rather listen to others.

I'm not intentionally a bad person it just happens that way!! :(

Requility, I'm a far better story-topper than you. This one time, for instance...

Nah, I'm not a story-topper lol. The main reason is because I hate it when it's done to me. I went to school with this guy who was so filled with self-importance that he had to one-up everything everybody said and when he did it to me it made me feel like crap; like nothing I said could ever be of any importance because he could always top it. I remember this one time I had just got my first laptop and I was so retardedly excited about it and I couldn't wait to get to school to tell all my friends. So I got there and revealed the big news and the guy (his name was Tom) just turned to me with this annoyed look as though I'd interrupted his daily thought and said "So what? I've got three laptops and four desktops in my house."

I saw him at a funeral on Thursday for the first time since graduation. He's in the army now. Still a douche.

The other reason is that I lead a legitimately boring life and therefore have nothing to report that could top anybody even if I wanted to, which means if I wanted to top somebody I'd have to make up a lie, and that's just too much effort for me to concern myself with.

I had an experience with this recently though, which was unintentional xD. I was posting in the Harry Potter club in Other Clubs and Lightning mentioned that she had seen the last movie four times at the movies. I saw it five times, so I mentioned that in my next post. I was just posting, I didnt really think anything of it at the time, but then I was reading over it the next day and I noticed what I'd done and I thought, "man you look like a douche just trying to do better than her." lmao. Oh well.

I'm not a story topper but I am a story sharer. I love to tell anecdotes and when someone says something related to a cool story I know, I feel like I have to share it lmao. My friends tell me that I have an anecdote for everything. >_o

I am not, and I despise story-toppers. You can identify them immediately. They even listen to you aggressively before firing away with their story in order to formulate the best possible way to dominate. They play Monopoly with a conversation. Pathetic.

I know how annoying that is, in real life; however I do like to share similar stories with people, and sometimes I realise it seems that I'm trying to top theirs, in which case I just shut the hell up immediately. I think it's an awful, annoying way to be, and I don't want to give someone the opportunity to say that it's what I do xD

I'm not a story topper, but I'm a story listener. I don't really mind having story-toppers around, as long as they tell the truth about what really happened. If they start to exaggerate the story, that's when I get annoyed.

    Can't stand these people. I don't "top" stories, lol. Although sometimes if the story is so great I might just unintentionally top one. c;

No, I don't do it at all. I find it to be a very unattractive trait too. It's way childish.

I'd be lying that I haven't done so once or twice but I try to avoid to do so as much as possible because ugh. I hate it when people think that they have to top their story on both sides of the perspective. When I mean by that is when someone has to have a better experience or have to have a worse experience. The former can get pretty annoying especially when you think you had a good experience with someone but I just... I don't get the latter. I don't know why people think that they need to top someone's bad experience. Personally, it's just weird. When someone tops mine I just... don't really care. Might sound a bit cruel but if you broke two toes instead of one then you should probably be more careful.

Yes I am! Though not all the time. Lol. Only if I don't find any big deal with other people's story. If not then, I'm the one's in control.

I try not to, but I think that I may be guilty of it if I have a similar story that someone is telling to a group.

Depends, sometimes I try to point out that I'm harder to beat in a fighting game than some other friends, or I'll say something like "Hahaha, they can't beat me with ____ character, I just owned them for two hours straight!". Though, I rarely ever say "Pffft, you beat it in ten hours? I beat it in seven!". I just don't care, and if I say something, and then someone else brags to out-do me, I'm not always sure what to say. I just kinda of sit there wondering why they care enough. xD; It's like "okay, why does it matter?"

I respect people more if they don't brag, rather than if they try to go on about how their time was faster than mine, or their score was higher than someone else's.

wow i dunno if that made sense? kinda tipsy right now, i tried v w v

If I tell a story right after someone else, it's not to top it, but to go "hey I went through something similar!"

I can't think of the last time I legit said a story to outdo someone and did it on purpose. It's not something I do. .-.
