You find a wallet with 1000 dollars in it

I love how we're actually being honest and saying we'd keep the money rather than just give it back. It's $1000 for free. I'd dump that straight in my savings account to get some interest.

The second I lay my eyes on it is the second it becomes mine. I would never feel guilty about it.

If there was no identification there's really no way to track down the person, plus as mentioned above, if someone is keeping $1000 bucks in their wallet there probably well off and I would feel less bad about taking it.

I'd take it to the police. I run on a crazy guilty conscience, and I'd feel awful if I just took it. Besides, if they don't find the owner, they give it to who turned it in. I'd feel better knowing the owner at least had a chance to get it back, even though there's no ID.

Same. Although, I would want to keep it, I'd be guilt-ridden if I didn't at least give the owner a chance to get it back.

I'd hand it into some sort of authority, whether it be the police or if it's in a mall, the mall office.

I've lost 100$ before outside (fell out of my sister's pocket) and was very hopeful that someone would turn it in to the police. No one did. I should've expected as much, but I really hoped for it :(

I was at the mall one time and found a Samsung Galaxy S2 on one of the tables. After fifteen minutes, no one came back for it (we were eating ice cream at the table beside it), so I took it and handed it into the mall's office. Hopefully the person will come back for it or that they tried to phone it a.s.a.p. before the battery ran out / the mall closed.

I'd feel guilty keeping it. I'd just turn it into a police station since there's no identification.

I'd just go to a casino and double the money, in a completely not illegal way. That way I'll still have 1000$ from it, and have a happy, warm feeling of returning their wallet and 1000$.

If it didn't have any identification it, then I'd hang around the spot where I found it and watch for anybody looking for something. If I didn't find someone who I could safely say was the owner, then I would probably just keep it.

If there was no identification in the wallet, that money is mine. I believe that if you bring it to the police, what are they going to do with it? It has no identification. How are they supposed to find the owner? Anyone will grab that wallet if asked if it was theirs.

If it did have ID, I'd try to find the owner for sure. But otherwise, that money is mine, sorry.

Some people actually go to the police and say where they believe they lost the money, how much they lost, and if they can, how they were wadded / what the wallet looked like / the type of bills.

I knew it was five 20$ bills - three plastic, two paper - that would've been rolled up or at least bent. I knew I must have lost it on Colborne or Front near the Shopper's and the Métro plaza. With that much information (assuming the person who hands it in can also provide that information), it would be relatively simple to track down if the actual legit owner of the money - the only one asides the hander-inner who would know that much detail about it - called in or reported it lost.

It's more or less whether the person who finds it is thinking "Hey, free cash! Sucker" or "Damn, if that were me who lost 100$, I'd really want someone to turn it in, too." It could be someone's rent money, as in my case lol

And of course, there is a level of responsibility involved for the original owner. I'm not letting my sister carry my money anymore, whether I have pockets or not - I'll stick it in my bra, like I typically do - but you do hope that the person who finds it would have enough conscience to hand it in instead of assuming it's payday.

Im going to be honest and say that if there was no ID on it, i would most likely feel the money, although i would feel somewhat guilty.
BUT if there happened to be something like a Police Station nearby, id just turn it in there

I would turn it over to the police, I would be driven Insane by the guilt if I kept it. Besides, it would be the right thing to do.

I'd be torn.
Part of me says to keep it. I was raised in a bad neighborhood -- my immediate feeling is that if the tables were turned and it were my wallet most people would not return it to me.
On the other hand, I'd hear my mother's voice, "You were raised better than that."

I dunno. Is there ID? If not, it's mine. =p
If there is ID -- is it someone around my age? Is it someone I'd feel sorry for? Or is it some old, creepy-looking guy? Some guy who looks like he's spent his whole life in and out of jail?
Alternatively -- does the ID picture look like someone who actually obtained that money legally? Because walking around with 1k in your pocket already looks suspicious.

I think that I would probably try to find the person who had this wallet. First, I would see if I could find a drivers license or something that I could use to find him or her. I I found out that there was no such id here, I would go to all nearby stores and see if I could find somebody who knows who owns that wallet. If that fails, I would just go crazh and post pictures of the wallet all over the Internet in hopes that somebody would recognize it and help me. By the time it was over with though, I would probably go insane and rant at the person who lost it. :)

If I manage to find something like that, chances of me finding the actual owner would be pretty unlikely... well, actually, they must have their driver license in there with their phone number on it, but I would have a really hard time staying away from the money. xD;; Either way, I would probably wind up giving them a call, because that would be the right thing to do.

My conscious wouldn't leave me alone unless I returned the money, so I'd track down the owner and hesitantly give all of the money back.

No ID? I'd probably hang around in the area for a little while to see if anyone came looking for it and, if not, I'd take it. And then I'd probably be irresponsible and go on a shopping spree with the $1000. Sure, I'd feel guilty, but hey... if someone's absent-minded enough to carry around $1000 in their wallet and not keep a very, very close eye on it... well. Sucks to be them, I guess. I'd probably spend the money on video games or related merchandise.

(I would absolutely return the wallet if it had the person's ID in it, though. Being able to put a face/name to the owner would make me feel way too guilty to spend any of the money in it.)
