Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG - New Ban List

Unless Upper Deck manages a last-minute change, this'll end up as our ban list, not just Japan's.

The new format bans "Magician of Faith", "Breaker the Magical Warrior", and "Call of the Haunted". We get "Monster Reborn" back to 1, "Raiza the Storm Monarch", "Advanced Ritual Art", and "Ojama Trio" at 1, "Gadget" Effect Monsters, "Pot of Avarice", "Apprentice Magician", "Reckless Greed", "Creature Swap", and "Jinzo" to three, and "Book of Moon", "Necroface", "Cyber Dragon", "Foolish Burial", "Magical Stone Excavation", "Mage Power", and "Light and Darkness Dragon" at 2.

And for those skeptics, here is my proof.

Seriously!? But I thought that the option banlist on WC08 had been confirmed as the official March 2008 list...

Ah, never mind. I'll miss Breaker, but Monster Reborn? Yes, Pleaseandthankyou. Was LaDD being run in threes before anyway? I mean, it's pretty hard to scrounge tribute fodder for it anyway...

Call of the Haunted gone while Monster Reborn being back is the surprising move. If they want recursion to be fair, why not 2 premature burial instead of 1 premature with 1 monster reborn? o_O; I'm am *guessing* that this is an attempt to discourage people from careless monster dump. Whatever you dump now may be whatever you face next round. I'm guessing that's the point of it.

I think Ojama Trio is a japanese thing, not something we'll understand.

    Gadgets back to 3 with creature swap 3 just stated how I was pretty darn good at prediction of last format how gadgets remain as the most consistent deck regardless of zombies and LaDD early last banlist. Although gadgets only won top 8 near the end, it was definitely joy for me XD;

I welcome plenty of these changes except for the weird Monster Reborn one, but I won't condemn it yet as I did state my potential reason for it.

Actually, I think it has something to do with "All-Out Attacks", a Continuous Trap from Phantom Darkness that forces all Special Summoned monsters to be Summoned in Attack Position, and must attack on the turn they were Special Summoned if possible.

As for "Call of the Haunted", revival on your opponent's turn as opposed to revival on your turn is probably why they banned that and brought "Monster Reborn" back.

I did read the new format. Heavy Storm isn't the only card that destroys backrow. At the start of each format before new deck surfaces, we *always* rely on traditional monarch (especially now that we got 3 apprentice again, we will probably see it as the first Top 8 somewhere) so bring on the Mobius? Blah Dark Armed Dragon still at 3 =(

I predict high amount of back row target cards actually, such as Raiza and Mobius+Zaborg forming the new lineup in monarchs. Reason for this is because we are so graveyard dependent, we will use whatever means we got to nuke RFG Gadgets/Monarch (especially since RFG Gadget just won a top 8, and for this banlist, Gadget got the most obvious boost in power out of all existing decktypes with 1 more creature swap to trade your puny 1200 atk for your much stronger junk)

Dust Tornado still lingers. It was powerful enough for zombies to main it with 3 of them. It is not to be underestimated (though I'll never use 3. I'll go with 2 only.)

Um, that's why we have Side Decks. Anyone running a "Gravekeeper's" Deck that's smart will have 3 each of "Solemn Judgment", "Dark Bribe", and "Pulling the Rug". There's also "Field Barrier", which ACC-M mentioned in the "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" Deck's thread (but this discussion doesn't go there), which has worked for me in the past. Heck, we can even use "Dark Magician of Chaos" to get back "Necrovalley" if all else fails, and it's very easy to Summon in a "Gravekeeper's" Deck. "Gravekeeper's" monsters swarm really well, and they can use "Magical Dimension" easily.

Having played with "Gravekeeper's" Decks since PGD first came out, there's nothing out there that can surprise me. I'm a master of that archetype.

I suppose I can live without Breaker, Magician of Faith is understandable, but seriously letting people have more then 1 set of gadgets seems a bit unfair. Raiza I'm happy about.

Oh god... This is my dream format. I only own 2 Cyber Dragon and 1 Raiza and I never bothered using them because I never had 3 copies of all of them. I can finally use them! Wooo. XD

Creature Swap back to three is nice too.

Monster Reborn is a nice surprise though.

I think the reasoning behind Monster Reborn is a combination of what NiGHTS and Frosty suggested. First off, Call of the Haunted was slightly slower because it's a trap card and theoretically it should be weaker then the big reborn. However, what's the monster most often brought back with call of the haunted? Jinzo. What does Jinzo do? Negate the destruction clause of Call of the Haunted. Badda-bring, badda-boom. Aside from that, there is also the "be careful... now your opponent can go rifling through your graveyard!" factor.

I smile and laugh as Raiza as cut down to one. The number of possible Spin cards in my opponent's deck just went from six to four. *smirketh*

I started to play Yu-gi-oh again and what is this ban list for exactly? is it cards that you can't use in tournaments or in games???

It's for real life, but it doesn't take effect until the 1st of March this year.

I still am wondering how Dark Armed Dragon didn't get to be restricted... I mean, we restrict LaDD, but doesn't restrict the card that put LaDD out of business in Japan?

I think it's something to do with "Dark Armed Dragon" requiring exactly 3 DARK monsters in your Graveyard to be Summoned.

It's the fact that we have "D.D. Crow", "Disappear", "Misrevive", "Soul Release", "Macro Cosmos", "Dimensional Fissure", "Dark Magician of Chaos", and even "Fiend Comedian", I think. Let's say you have exactly 3 DARK monsters in your Graveyard during your Standby Phase, and I activate "Disappear". Now you have two, and one's removed from play. "Dark Armed Dragon" is now a dead card in your hand.

thats so not fair. I had a cyber jar in my deck.

Cyber Jar was banned for good reason. It's like if they never banned CED.
