Why I like numbered usernames

  • You know, when people think of my username, they see my name as cute yet simple and easy to learn.

    My username's origin, in case if you didn't know happens to be broken down into this:

    Hikari - Back when I was joining PC, I wanted a simple and easy name to learn, and I had a big obsession towards Dawn (aka Hikari) from Pokemon back then. I thought she was cute, especially her Japanese name Hikari. I wanted a Japanese name since Pokemon is a Japanese franchise, so I went with that.

    10 - Okay, now here's where the numbers come in. I noticed we already had a "Hikari" here who was very inactive, and I didn't want silly underscores or icons in my username, so I decided to use numbers instead. Why 10? Well, I was born in October, which is the 10th month in your average calendar year. It's also a number that looks nice on me, so why not?

    You know, I seem to have a love for numbers in usernames, cos it's pretty cool how some people replace letters with numbers. I do love most usernames here but numbers totally get my ego going, especially if it's an easy-to-remember one like mine.

    Too many numbers is a bit long for me, but like maybe 2-3 numbers is simple and neat.

    In fact, on forums I joined since PC, I kept the numbers in my name cos it grew on to me. And I am proud of being one of the few active users on Ever Grande to have a numbered username.

    It's all cos I'm unique, on some other small forums I happen to be the only member with a numbered name and I'm fine with that. Because it makes me special.

    My username when I joined was shinypkmnfan13. Because I loved shiny Pokémon A LOT more back then than I do now (don't get me wrong, I still love them; I was just freaking obsessed with them then) and I was also thirteen at the time.

  • I don't think that when I think of your username. It's a pretty common name in Japan so I think of it like the Eastern equivalent of "Peter" or "Jennifer."

    And why are underscores or symbols "silly" where numbers aren't?

    I knew a dude whose username was 340285931032 (or something like that) on another forum I went on and everyone just called him Numbers. He was a cool dude.

  • It suits some people, but personally, I think numbers are to... cliche? Maybe I'm a little harsh, but numbers don't appeal to me often, especially when it looks all cybery. If that makes any sense. The same goes to a username without the first letter being capital. I guess I find it kind of informal. D;

    Hikari10 isn't so bad, though. Perhaps it's because I've gotten used to it.

    Then again, this is coming from a guys whose first username was Bloodex-fire in order to get the attention of some girl (no, not in that way). Patatatatata blahhhhhhhhh.

    What "Romanesque"? They sound completely different- I don't get how you can draw those two parallels.
    Wasn't Nick's old username "lettursnnumburs" or something like that?

    I got used to Hikari's numbered username that I don't really mind seeing numbered usernames. Numbers, like underscores, used to look a bit generic for me (although ironically I considered the username Empoleon23 for this forum at first, haha). But yeah now I don't really care. Besides, 10 is a pretty solid number.
