  • A little update so folks know where we stand with the giveway. I have been doing some trading with many of you guys this week and over the weekend. It's been a lot of fun, and I had the opportunity to give out multiple mons, and have one on reserve.

This is where our inventory stands now. We have 1 Goomy left, 2 Gible and 3 Swablu, minus what I am holding for one of our members who can't trade right now, but has expressed interest.

If you are a member of Dragon Ascent, haven't gotten a dragon baby yet, but are interested then any 1 of the aforementioned Pokemon are still available if you want to put in a request.

    Stay glorious my winged brethren.

  • Hope you guys don't mind if I double post, but I had to make an important update because it's the end of the month. Dragon tamers know what that means? It's time for a Dragon of the Month.

Spring is here! One of the things I associate with this lovely season is a little spring rain. As March draws to a close I decided to name as the Dragon of the Month this cheery, pastel dragon that evolves when it rains.

    Here comes the Goodra line!

Anyone care to share their impressions of Goomy, Sligoo or Goodra?

I really like their designs. I have a thing for the big sweet-looking dragons like Dragonite, Appletun and Drampa, so this line fits the bill, and it was a Pokemon I really looked forward to using in the days of XY.

Goodra is an amazing Pokemon with such a diverse move pool, mixed attacking capabilities, tremendous bulk, many resistances, no 4x times weakness, and multiple useful ability options. It does not disappoint.

Speaking of abilities, Gooey, Sap Sipper or Hydration?

All 3 have their use, but as I stall a lot as my battle style and have run weather teams before, so hydration works best for me. Having all that rest abuse in the rain is too fun to pass up.

Sword and Shield players have you ever dynamaxed Goodra or faced one?

I don't have the Nintendo Switch yet, so haven't done it, but it looks cool blown up in scale. And I plan to get Pokemon Shield over Sword, one of the factors that persuaded me to Shield was that it had the Goomy line, along with Larvitar, Oranguru and Galarian Ponyta.

Gen 6 has lots of methods of evolution the world had never seen before like turning your ds upside to evolve inkay into malamar, affection in poke amie combined with fairy moves to make Eevee sylveon. Have you ever evolved sligoo in the rain?

I did do this, and ran into a bit of trouble first time around because I thought I could use rain in battle to evolve it, and then nothing happened. I eventually put it together though, and took it to Route 14 where it always rains.

    Bonus Question
Goodra has made many appearances since it's introduction in gen 6, often as the Pokemon of a final boss. Notable Goodra users include Shana, Raihan, Diantha and Zinnia. But the most recognizable Goomy, Sligoo or Goodra is probably noneother than Ash Ketchum's! Did you ever watch the XYZ and catch Goodra in action?

  • This line is really unique and I love the idea of a slug turning into a snail and then a slimy dragon. This is a good line overall but I wish Goodra kept the eyes from Sliggoo because I would have liked it a lot more. The colours are nice looking too!

In terms of abilities, I'd say Sap Sipper is the more consistent option just to easily switch into Spore and what not.

I did transfer my Goodra in Sword but never Dynamaxed it yet, maybe one day if I give it better moves.

I hated the evolution method and it would have been better if it either just leveled up in the rain (any level) or evolved at lv 50, not both.

    Spoiler: anime spoilers
I literally cried when Ash said goodbye to Goodra, especially with the prolonged hug and those flashbacks. I think it did well in battle but it's been a while since I watched it. Really nice he used it in the league battle too.

  • I try to avoid politicizing the Clubhouse but I think every member of Dragon Ascent will agree that poaching a vulnerable species of reptile and and selling off the byproduct is wrong. Say no to something called Dragon Tears.

    https://www.firebox.com/Dragon-Tears-Whisky/p8716

We've highlighted animals like this in the science section of Dragon Ascent. I want to use the platform we created together to shed light on something serious that's happening in the world, an industry that a lot of people don't know exist, and the loopholes that allow businesses to carry this black market meat. I will be creating a petition at Change.Org asking Radiant Farms to stop carrying canned dragon meat. Who is with me?

Note: Amazon has fortunately stopped carrying this disgusting product, Wal-Mart however still sells it and we need to place pressure on them to also discontinue.

  • I cannot believe our beloved dragons are being used to sell their tears for drinks, butchering them for meat, and I just found out their blood was being used in a variety of things. This has to stop. I am willing to boycott all stores that sell dragon products.

and here i thought that humans had finally stopped trying to kill dragons to make stuff out of our corpses =(

that whiskey tastes like shit btw. no, i didn't buy it, i just made it myself once, it's called "dragon tears" after all. though sometimes i wonder if it was bad because i'm half human. but either way, forcing a dragon to cry for profit is a terrible thing >=[

  • Gods, that is terrible; canned dragon meat sounds revolting and unethical... I'll definitely be supporting a movement that helps stop whatever is supporting this.

    And... Dragon tears? Really?
Our tears are not some sort of delicacy!

Those poor reptiles; I hope there is something that can help them soon.

  • Got tons to say about the Dragon Of The Month...

    First off-

I hate Goomy. Moreso, I hate his stats and therefore toughness to use and level up on a team. I mentioned him in something like "the hardest pokemon to use.", or something, and it's for good reason.

Whenever I start a game with a new group of Dragons-usually about 20 or so because you can't exactly obtain the Legendaries at level 1...he's usually under-leveled off and on for bits of time, simply because he's hard to use-even his super effective grass and water moves are the weakest and do LESS than "Not very effective." Move.

Low-level 40 evolution for Sliggoo makes it worse lol. Most will reach THAT form by 35 at the most, which is a stretch (Dragonair at 30, and even Altaria is finalized at 35.), BUT, at least Goodra is 50 so it's smooth sailing from there. Back to the first bit...it's very hard to do get Goomy to level 40-basically just throw him in the back with Exp Share on and let Dragonair, Fraxure, Shelgon, Sceptile, Gabite and others do the work.

Of course I've evolved Sliggoo in the rain, it's never been that difficult, it's just catching the rain when you need it at that time.

Funny thing about this line...before I picked back up with OR, I seemed to remember them being Poison type as well...which would have been a great boost lol.

  • "Getting Started:"

Mega Sceptile and Mega Ampharos are definitely some favorites, just because of their usefulness...Sceptile being so fast and Ampharos Mega has some of the highest Special Attack of all Dragons...

The list is long and I love several for many reasons, but I'm very big on Dragalge and Dialga for the hopeful obvious Reasons-

They are the best answers to the Fairy Type on any given Dragon team, and I'd absolutely recommend using Dragalge especially. Dialga may be tougher to obtain-but he may be my number 1 favorite. He, like Dragalge, HAS NO Fairy weakness, BUT ALSO, no Ice weakness and on the other side he smashes to bits with his Steel Type...no Fire weakness either btw, and his only true weaknesses are Ground and Fighting. Who cares about pixies when you can shout and throw them literally OUT OF TIME?

Dragalge also seems to crumple most fairy types immediately. He's not fast, probably the slowest of all Dragons-well besides Turtonator and Drampa( who the latter is a lot of Special Attack and balanced in others...but with speed BELOW 40, I don't have a high spot on any Dragon ranking for him at all, but he's not complete trash .), but 95 percent of Fairies aren't quick either...resisting Fairy and therefore able to drown them with Sludge Bomb or Venoshock makes him vital.

Druddigon is another big favorite and that's due to playing Sun finally. I was able to obtain a shiny, Pokerus, hidden ability one for an extra hacked Arceus I'd gotten, and I gained such a new love and respect for him. Sure-he doesn't have the speed of Dragonite, Sceptile, Kommo-O or Garchomp...none of the balanced Special And Physical Attack of Dragonite, Salamence, Charizard X, Mega Altaria...but his learnset pretty much offers him to be the most perfect, customizable machine you could want. There's VERY few move types he can't learn, and his natural level up set only adds to that. Very powerful Attack, great sturdy defensive bulk, and I used the Quick Claw on him to make up for his biggest weakness which is slow speed-he is a Gargoyle or Troll/Dragon Hybrid after all lol.

He was undoubtedly my go-to utility, whenever I needed extra help with a certain type, heck he was pretty much my starter all along the way.

This next one is a bit different, but Dragon Memory Silvally is very cool, another one capable of many different interchangeable TMS.

Speaking of, Who doesn't love Draco Plate Arceus?

I also loved the new wolf design for Zygarde.

    "Any Shiny Dragons"?

I have a few or so, which I only have obtained from GTS-Shiny Rayquaza and Shiny Altaria...while Greyish Black Rayquaza is a nice touch and step up, Shiny Altaria is instead simply bright Yellow instead of Sky Blue, so neither are extraordinary lol.

  • Not gonna lie, I saw crossover fanart with Goodra and one of my favourite characters, and boom all of a sudden I really liked Goodra. It helps that it's a badass Dragon, too!

I also fully support not using products made of dragons
    Spoiler:

I can't even imagine how on Earth people managed to obtain Tiki's tears, let alone canned dragon meat!

Your brothers and sisters welcome you DragonKing48,

This is the place where you belong. I will engrave your name on the halls now as officially part of our dragon clan, and I present you with a dragon gem to symbolize your consecration.

I know what you mean about how fragile the pre-evolution Goomy is. We really have to be patient and badly want these psuedolegendary dragons to carry them for so many levels. While I have a Hydreigon I was lucky enough to get him already in his final form. Evolving him from Deino is not for the faint of heart, just hitting stage 2 at level 50 with another 14 levels the go till the third stage.

I love the pokemon you have mentioned. Sceptile won my heart as my favorite starter Pokemon when ORAS rolled around. We highlighted Mega Sceptile here as a dragon of the month back in December I think. Ampharos is also cool and will get his moment in the light one day.

Dragalge is another interesting Pokémon that I think is under represented, it's typing and hidden ability is really cool. I have spare adaptability skrelp if you are ever in need. Breeding services of hidden ability Pokémon is a feature I was considering offering this club. I have rough skin gibles, marvel scale dratinis and some other fun stuff.

I also have a few Shiny Pokémon left from our dragon giveaway last month if you are interested. You mentioned you already have shiny Altaria, but I know that there is one shiny Gible left at least and there might be a Charmander if you ever feel up to trading. You can trade clones on the forum, but hacks aren't allowed so
trade with a careful eye :)

Can't go wrong with any of the legendaries you mentioned. Also I'm happy to find out that I'm not the only one who had a soft spot for Druddigon. Welcome the club kindred soul.

  • Yeah, I actually got Sliggoo from XY in ORAS, He just needed a level or two, and I might have got one in Sun, but I know in my recent X I went all the way lol. Sliggoo is what it makes it all worth it- right up there with other second stages. Yeah, in XY there's Zweilous on Victory Road that are ready to evolve, and even wild Hydreigon at 60. In Sun I definitely went the distance again. They're another story- completely usable in the first stage, but such a long ride.

Kingdra, for totally different reasons. Horsea is good enough in her earlier stages of the game, Seadra is VERY dangerous for what you would use him for, but getting that scale and actually being able to make it happen at the right time are so love/hate. Can be a pain but I still love every Kingdra I'm able to evolve because of the fulfillment.

Love Kingdra though too. Used one in Sun as part of my permanent end game team. So well rounded.

I actually have Marvel Scale Dratini and Rough Skin Gibble, I kept Dratini all the way to Dragonite in my E4 team too in Sun, and he has Iron Tail and was one of the "Extreme Speed Dratini."

I've got bunchs of stuff like that-Solar Power Charmander, Whatever it is HA Treecko, a friend told me about "Creatorpi", an app that allows "legit trades of any custom pokemon", that I got a shiny Charmander from as well.

I still want one day, a Mega for Druddigon, and of course Dragon Style Eevee evolution-

That's something I think of a lot. "Draconion"-Blue and Red, since they're always the color of how the type is represented, standard body and face and eyes, horns, wings, claws, tail, and that's about it design wise. Something like, level it up with Dragon Fang, allow it to now learb Dragon Moves then level it up, or do some kind of Moss Rock thing, like level near some ancient Dragon statue-

The ability would be some brand new type of "Dragon Terrain", which would be activated when he came into Battle, that or a new Dragon version of some kind of weather.

  • I got lucky, when I chained fished on Pokémon Y and hooked shiny seadra she happened to be holding a dragon scale, so I just had to trade with myself on Omega Ruby.

I Iove the idea of Dragon Terrain. This reminds me of September Serpents, designing fakemon inspired by reptiles.
    https://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=413177

I made a dragon/flying legendary called Servida with the exclusive ability Heaven's Sky. It changes the effects of the weather in battle depending on which rock is the held item, i.e damp rock summons rain, smooth rock for sand.

Incidentally I found a dragon-themed mad libs that members might want to try their hand in. The spirit of April Fool's Day still resides with in me.

    https://www.madtakes.com/libs/176.html

It's short, so it just takes a minute if anyone is curious. If anyone here makes a go for it and shares use spoiler tags like this.
    Spoiler:

Mine actually sounds less comic, and more like a legit description of a creature I think.

  • Yeah...Try Thiefing TWO off wild Horsea lol...I got lucky with one in like 4 tries, then went for days of nothing else and couldn't get another one lol. I just hate how the only ones they put in-game aren't available until literally the end or almost, the end.

The best thing about XYORAS, is being able to GTS with yourself if you have only one 2/3ds.

  • Also...as we saw with Mega Evolutions...some pokemon were able to gain the Dragon type and become different pokemon entirely...any ideas or crazy schemes on who you'd like to see do more of the same in the future, or maybe with new forms?

Nidoking is one I'd love, a lot has to do with the fact he's seemingly so...tailor made for it...spikes, claws, horns...giant bulk build....is he Druddigon's brother? Lol, with a few tweaks he'd make a great Poison Dragon juggernaut.

Feraligatr fits the same mold with his reptile design, which as we all know, reptile= Dragon a lot more times than not lol. Amaurus would also be great, and it doesn't make a lot of since to make the other XY Fossils Dragon but not both, when they're clearly just Dinosaur reptiles lol.

A friend of mine were talking about how Milotic as this majestic, awe inspiring beautiful, Fairy /Dragon sea serpent Hybrid would be very neat.

Even suggested it as the opposite of a Dark/Dragon (finally) Gyrados.

Lots of people love to say Aerodactyl is essentially a Wyvern...which IS Noivern, so that could be really cool...I'd personally rather Steel Dragon though just for type advantages.

Heloptile/Helioptisk could fit that classification of "Reptile is Dragon." Also...

  • Love all these dragon-insired and dragon egg group mons and the idea of possible evolutions for them.

I have always liked the look of Arbok. I adore that gold shiny, and think he looks like he could adorn the headdress of an Egyptian pharaoh. I'd love to see him get a dragon dual type third stage evolution or mega. Dragon/Poison is already an awesome, fairy-killing combo.

I wanted to add a new topic to the mix.

Dinosaurs, the closest to dragons that have existed in our world. Perhaps it was dinosaur bones that people of the ancient world unearthed that made them believe in dragons.

So dragon lovers, what is your favorite dinosaur?

I myself have always been fond of the high-flying pterodactyl.

  • Probably the Spinosaurus for me. I've always had a fascination for the weird and seemingly alien sea creatures of old (which arguably still exist if you go deep enough into today's ocean...). As if the Spinosaurus wasn't scary enough when you consider that it was even deadlier than a T-Rex, it also had some capabilities of hunting really well on land.

  • Speaking of giveaways, I could possibly help with some one day...I have loads of HA HA Dragons (surprised? Look at my name🤷*♂️), including Solar Power Charmander (which I don't and would not recommend. ), Unburden Treecko, Rough Skin Gibble, Marvel Scale Extreme Speed Dratini, and probably a good bit of others.

Arbok could be a great Poison Dragon type. Mainly because he could REALLY use some kind of upgrade and boost. Just make him into some kind of serpent that's more Draconic than Snake like...something to do with "evolves with a Dragon type in the party...", like he eventually adapts and changes over time as part of years of living around different species until he eventually essentially BECOMES integrated as one of them.

Just started Ultra Moon the other day with tons of great stuff, easily my favorite group ever.

  • Alright, maybe this will really generate some conversation,-here is my entire Ultra Moon roster:

Shiny Horsea-Scald , Ice Beam, Flash Cannon, Dragon Pulse.
    Sniper.

Druddigon-Fire Punch, Thunder Punch, Iron Head, Dragon Claw. Rough Skin.

Gible-Iron Head, Outrage, Earthquake, Iron Tail. Rough Skin.

1st Treecko- Drain Punch, Energy Ball, Thunder Punch, Iron Tail. Overgrow.

Exeggcute- Hypnosis, Poison Powder, Leaf Storm, Psychic. Chlorophyll.

Jangmo-O- Shadow Claw, X-Scissor, Brick Break, Dragon Claw. Bulletproof.

1st Charmander- Dragon Pulse; Dragon Claw, Iron Tail, Fire Punch.

Trapinch-Earthquake, Hyper Beam, Toxic, Rock Slide. Hyper Cutter.

Dratini- Flamethrower, Dragon Rush, Extremr Speed, Iron Tail. Marvel Scale.

Axew-Guillotine, Poison Jab, Dragon Claw, Outrage. Mold Breaker.

Mareep- Thunderbolt, Thunder, Iron Tail, Charge Beam. Static.

2nd Charmander- Metal Claw, Outrage, Flamethrower, Dragon Pulse. Blaze.

2nd Treecko- Solar Beam, Grassy Terrain, Leech Seed, Bullet Seed. Unburden.

Goomy- Iron Tail, Dragon Pulse, Thunderbolt, Sludge Wave. Gooey.

Now I just got Ultra Moon days ago and I have taken bits of time to get all these movesets through Egg Moves, BP Tutors, TMS, and Move Reminder. This is EASILY my best and favourite unit ever, and I was able to get another Shiny to start with, Shiny Horsea. Kingdra is one of my professed favorites, and last time I had Shiny Druddigon.

I'm only just nearing Verdant Cave, so I'm still trying to figure out what my full final end game team will be. Haven't decided, I'm basically just swapping around every so often and enjoying it and figuring advantages. I know Guzma was slightly annoying and difficult last time without a legitimate Fire Type, so one of these Charmander could get some good usage. Exeggcute and Skrelp are definitely big helps with their status conditions.

Jangmo-O is another probable must due to the abundance of Alolan Diglet and Dugtrio, plus NORMAL!

I look forward to Poipole and Nganadel, as well as Ultra Necrosma, plus I wanna see what we can do with this "BIG ULTIMATE HARDEST FIGHT EVER."
