I'm not sure if I'm interpreting this correctly, but are you using the calculator to see what stats are 31? You said yourself the IV judge already does that. And if you're going for 5IV 'mons, differentiating between 30 and 31, or even anything besides 31 is more or less irrelevant.

Yes, but like I said, the IV judge doesn't tell you what your IVs are, it only gives you phrases you need to interpret. Using the calculator gives you the exact numbers, more importantly, you can see what your IVs are at a glance you you don't need to go anywhere.

Okay, let me explain it further, you're breeding a Hasty Pichu, you get one set of stats and the calculator tells you it's Hp and Def at 31, then another pichu the calculator tells you it's Sp Att and Speed are 31, as you're breeding you get more and more IVs at 31 so within a few pokemon you know it's stats at level 20 should be 44/27/15/25/25/38 in order for it's IVs to be 31. If you get 39/27/15/25/25/32 you know immediately that it's HP and Speed are not 31 so you can chuck that one and don't need to go anywhere or interpret any phrases at all, and while you're breeding in order to get to the pokemon with 4 or 5IVs you want you could potentially get 4 or 5 different phrases for each egg you hatch and if you're breeding one pokemon it's not that big of a deal, but when you start hatchign 30 or 60 pokemon at a time it's extremely cumbersome keeping track of all the various pokemon with their various stats while you're trying to find one with enough IVs to swap out the parent for, whereas if you use the calculator you know exactly and immediately what each pokemon has so there's no needing to run around trying to find out what is what.

Also, there's a few isntances where you DON'T want every stat at 31, there's a few specific circumstances that you want to have a stat as low as possible (such as pokemon that use Gyro Ball) or getting certain pokemon that won't be using their Att stat so you would get that as low as possible in order to reduce damage from getting confused. Basically, I just think it's better to see your Ivs in black and white rather than guessing based on phrases. I get what you're saying about it being 31, but still, knowing is still better than guessing. And in addition to that, the IV spread is chosen before the egg is generated, if you save before the egg is made, run around until one is created, you hatch it, use the IV caclulator to see what it's exact IV spread is and it's not correct for the pokemon you're breeding, but it IS correct for a different pokemon you can swap them to get what you want.

To go even further, you save before the egg is generated, run around until it's generated and see that the offspring has 5 IVs in everything but Sp Att and you're breeding Pichu, that's not very good. HOWEVER, you are breeding a Kangaskhan which WOULD benefit from that spread, so simply reset, swap the parents so that a Kangaskhan is born and the same IV spread that the previous Pichu was born with will be on the Kangskhan instead so that not the Kangaskhan has everything but Sp Att.

I know that was long, but I hope it was clear

So with destiny knot it picks 5 random values, not specific stats? So you could have 2 pokes with 4 IVs maxed in the same category, but the egg could hatch with 5-6 ivs?

Also is it impossible to get a 6 IV poke using destiny knot? Or once you get the pokemon to 5 ivs can you use a power item?

^Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe with the Destiny Knot it'll select one of the parent's IVs, i.e. HP, and then the other parent's HP IV will not be selected. Same for the other stats. So basically 5 of the stats (HP,ATK,DEF,etc.) are selected, and a random parent's IV for said stat will be selected.

Try checking out this calculator if you're confused. https://destinyknot.tk/
So according to the calc, 4IV w/4IV parent will not yield a 6IV Pokemon (although 5IV is possible). Since it selects 5 IVs, it will have to select a non-31 of the parent, and the child cannot be 6IV perfect.

Yes, but like I said, the IV judge doesn't tell you what your IVs are, it only gives you phrases you need to interpret. Using the calculator gives you the exact numbers, more importantly, you can see what your IVs are at a glance you you don't need to go anywhere.

I understand the need for a calculator if you want to know exact values, but if you want 5 perfect IVs, there's no need to know anything besides the values that are 31. So you hatch 5 Pichu, and the guy will tell you the number of perfect IVs. Just switch the parent with the Pichu with the most 31s out of the five hatched. Say it's 31/31/31/31/x/x, you don't need to calculate the final two stats because they're irrelevant to the final product (say 31/x/31/31/31/31).

I'm not liking all this Power Item hate :P xMetal Massacre had it right in the first place. Power Items are useful at the start of the breeding process, when each parent has only 1 or 2 perfect IVs. In this case you WANT the other stats to be randomised, so using Destiny Knot is actually a bad idea.

is mega evolution Pokemon necessary for online battle?

    not really. no.
    unless you want to.

some trainers want their PKMN to mega-evolve. some don't.

you can win with a megavolved 'mon. you can also lose with one.
same goes if you don't megavolve a 'mon. you can win, or you can lose~

it depends on your play style~

    just remember to have fun~

Ugh hey guys, I'm really frustrated about this thing; you know in Azure Bay there are two Sky battle Trainers, a girl and some dude right after that island where you get the Ampharosite. Well, defeated the girl, but I just CAN'T get to battle the other dude Sky Trainer...

Any tips? I watched videos on timing, spot where to stand, nothing works... I just don´t get this

Try watching this video, courtesy of Marriland!

    Spoiler:

I'm sure if you pay attention to the video (around 7:15) you'll know exactly where to stand to fight that male Sky Trainer. Good luck!

  • Tips on Shing Breeding...

    Hey guys,
so I have begun to start to try and breed shiny Eevees (Espeon and Umbreon are two of my favourite pokemon). As far as I understand the best way to breed shinys is too:
Have both parents from different countries
    Not use a Ditto
Tip the NPC through out the game
I am not sure if all of these are true, so I thought I would ask you guys what you know about the topic.
    Thanks,
    Dodo Hunter...

Have both parents from different countries. True. This isn't mandatory, but helps. It doubles your chances of hatching shiny.
Not use a Ditto False. I do ALL my breeding with a JPN Ditto, and I have the same chance everyone else does.
Tip the NPC through out the game. Maybe. There is a huge discussion on whether or not tipping NPCs will help or not, I'm pretty sure no one knows at this point.

    Hope this helped.

It's probably already obvious, but you're gonna want to set aside a LOT of time for it. Some people have bred shinies within 5 eggs, others have taken 1200+ eggs. My personal best is 120 eggs to breed a Shiny Sneasal, while my ex-roommate took 600 eggs for a Shiny Froakie.

So if you're travelling anywhere and don't have any pressing matters to attend to, then would be a good time to devote yourself to some hatching.

  • Up until reading this, I had no clue that both parents being foreign increases your chances. Is that really the truth?

  • My PB is just 40 eggs for a shiny skarmory, but at the same time I've hatched 500+ eggs without any shiny igglybuff, then I tried again for fletchling (500+ eggs) no luck there either. Then tried again and hatched a shiny gastly in just 60 eggs. So I suppose it's totally random when you hatch a shiny. :)

I used a ditto which I caught myself, and then the other pokemon was from another region, and that was pretty much it.

I don't believe that is true.
As long as one parent is foreign, then you can MM.
If you want/have both parents being foreign, just make sure that both are not from the same region.

  • So there's this one woman in Santalune City who says something about your Pokémon's happiness, or how close it is with you or something. Is there anywhere that shows exactly what she says that indicates happiness? (She's in the same house as someone who mentions that you can press the B button to cancel evolution.)

Here's some info about it from bulbapedia...
"It's amazingly friendly toward you! It must be so happy spending every day with you!" 250-255
"You must really like your <Pokémon> and always keep it by your side!" 200-249
"Well, I think you and <Pokémon> will be an even greater combo someday!" 150-199
"It's a little bit friendly to you… Something like that." 100-149
"Hmm…I think you have a lot of time ahead of you to get to know one another better." 50-89
"Don't tell me! Are you just letting it get knocked out in Pokémon battles?!" 0-49
