  • It really sucks when a GM bails on you after only two sessions. So much upset. Just had the most awkward 3 hour conversation with another player's character. It would have been me, him and this other guy but the other guy's gf got into an accident and ended up going to the hospital. Real life problems suck.

    But don't you understand

E.T. won't come and brush my dog's teeth unless the clothes dryer is purple on Wednesdays, and my cats fry him a sufficient number of turkey ducks loaded with mayonnaise and melancholic sadness

It's all about that treble, that treble, no bass

No. It's what mods do. Blame my bosses.

    Yes. Do it.

She's write. I wrote it myself when I was on h-staff (I re-wrote the rules, which still remain the rules today according to my mod friends).

btw do you get my joke? write. because role playing mod.

Please tell me the rationale behind that, Nick. I don't understand it quite, and I'd probably be at least a little fascinated by it, so do share :k

  • Behind the joke or the rule?
Oh, Nick. You're talking to someone who legitimately cared whether some person he barely knew wore more than one lead of rope on a special suit because some piece of paper said he could or not. The rule.

Backstory: Erica was the moderator of HQ. So I wanted to be the mod of something, so I asked to be the mod of my second favorite forum, the Lounge. In HQ, Erica wrote the rules for the forum. So I wanted to re-write the rules (which frankly were due for a re-write anyway) of the Lounge. So I did.

Admittedly, and I can say this now because probably nobody will care anymore since its been too long, it was a combined effort, but at the end of the day, I put what I wanted in there and made frequent edits and additions for the next two years afterwards without running it through with the other higher staff. Oops.

Anyway, one of the misconceptions of the role of a moderator is that all you have to do is moderate. Which was often called babysitting. And that's frankly not true at all. In fact, when I was a member of higher staff, I often moved to get people removed for not a) contributing to their sections past babysitting the forum, and b) at least try to promote activity of their forum.

I was a bit puzzled at the motion to advocate for advertisements, but when you put it more theorhetically like that it makes sense.

So, we know what the idea wasn't... but what was it? Is the policy just "do more than that," or is it something more specific? I'd imagine a healthy thing to set up is to have the forum have change flowing through it, even if subtly. Being involved is critical but I guess I like to look at things with special shades, haha.

I saw you mention postbits elswhere, what are those?
Postbits are what hold your username, usertitle, rank image, avatar, personal statistics, and media handles beside every post you make.
