The Litten and Popplio ones are way to gender specific for starters. Pokemon that are obviously supposed to be one gender are fine, like Gardevoir and Lopunny, but starters shouldn't be like that. Even Greninja and Chestnaught I could see being male or female, but these... The Litten has clearly defined pecs, and the Popplio has a dress that kind of looks like a tail.

So, anyway, I'm really hoping this is fake. Especially since I wanted a female litten to name Hikage. I guess if it really ends up looking like this I'll just go with a male named Tai Lung.

    The owl looks cool, though.

CoroCoro is expected to leak later today, so hopefully we can find a connection to the Chinese leak or not. If CoroCoro doesn't have a connection to what was mentioned, then the trailer getting released on Saturday could.

Angie has a point, just because a Pokemon has a design that leans towards a certain gender doesn't mean you have to hate it. I even heard of men claim they like the mermaid-like supposed final evo of Popplio because they think it's majestic and unique for a Pokemon, especially when you consider the other sea lion-based Pokemon and how different Popplio seems to be setting itself apart from the other two.

Anyways, still haven't heard about any CoroCoro scans coming through, unless if they're leaking it a day later.

Don't remember if the Chinese leaks themselves said we'd get specific news, but a lot of the "fake" reports that were supporting the Chinese leak have just been laid to rest with today's CoroCoro since many of them said we'd get the Rugby Monkey today.

The Chinese leaks never said an exact date. Of course, the previous leak Hikamaru posted in her OP has been officially debunked thanks the two new Pokémon from CoroCoro.

I don't understand the mentality of "if you're offended, you have issues" and the people that quote is directed at continues to get pummeled with comments as if they've committed a crime. It's just an opinion, so what? They have every right to have one and have every right to express it as long as it's not threatening people.

Everybody, and I mean EVERYBODY, is not immune to being offended by something. People are going to be offended by this post, guarantee it. I can hear your keyboards rattling off in response. But my point is that you shouldn't be upset with people who personally don't like the designs of a Pokemon being "gender specific". Me personally, I wish Game Freak would do a little more like what they did with Unfezant and Gardevoir/Gallade only becuase I'd like to see more variety in the designs than just having a tail or feather being shorter on males or females. I know there's plenty of male and female animals IRL that look the same, but there's just as much who have drastic differences.

I like all the designs of the starter "leaks", except for Litten's only because it reminds me too much of Emboar.

There is a bit of Emboar I can see in it. It mostly reminds me of a more tiger like Tony the Tiger from the Frosted Flakes cereal boxes...

I mean, it wouldn't be the first time we've gotten ""gender-specific"" (why do people care about this, seriously?) starters.

    Example 1:

    Spoiler:

    Example 2:

    Spoiler:

Blaziken is less apparent but it's still very obvious of the general """demographic""" of what it's leaning towards.

Technically, you can make the (rather nitpicky) case that every single Fire starter's final evolution bar Delphox is either a) "manly" or b) "too tough-looking". I mean, I don't see people complain about Blaziken, or Infernape's design for that matter, and the final Litten evo would fit in the same spectrum as those two, really. Heck even Infernape has """pecs"""...I guess people didn't notice them or figured the two swily things on its chest don't really mean anything.

I really don't think that, these days, starters are created with the intention of promoting them towards a specific gender or another. If you like a starter's design, go for it! If you're a fan of the apparent Popplio final evolution bein a mermaid whether you're a girl or a guy, go for it! If you (generally speaking) are offended by the fact that they're too feminine-looking or masculine-looking, there are bigger issues you need to worry about.

I'm not offended, nor acting like I am. Annoyed, maybe. I'm saying it's good to be able to have a starter be either gender and have it make sense.

Even the two you showed don't really break that rule, infernape looks like a monkey, not a monkey mixed with a human male, and blaziken is slender and its body featureless enough that it could be both. My problem isn't that I don't want a girly or manly starter, it's that I don't want a female one that looks like Hulk Hogan. Even a female lion having a mane, or something, would be fine, but when it's specifically designed to looks like a human of a certain gender it's annoying.

If they have gender differences that fix it, then it'd be fine, but so far no starters have done that type of thing to the degree that would be necessary here, so I doubt it.

Look out ladies and gentlemen, but CoroCoro next month is supposed to have info that will "help us on our journey" and mentions the southern island of Alola, which would be the big island. I smell evil team reveal in our near future, possibly like a trailer/site update at the beginning of the month as what's been happening.

The problem I'd have with no Gym Leader is that, one, great! Still no Dark-Type Gym after all this time! What did Dark-Types ever do to you, Game Freak? And two, if Alola really is as vast as it appears, Gym Leaders would be great NPCs to get involved with the story and keep it moving forward, while also serving a gameplay role.

When it comes down to it, Pokémon is an RPG. And RPGs have bosses to segment the gameplay. In Pokémon, those bosses are Gym Leaders with your rival battles as mini-bosses and sometimes you'll fight the main villain as a boss, too. So ultimately, Pokémon needs to have bosses, and it needs to have characters to add depth to the story. Why not kill two birds with one stone and have them overlap by using Gym Leaders?

Also, if the story will revolve around an evil team--again--why not keep Gym Leaders? Gym Leaders can be flexible in their execution: maybe this one Gym is a puzzle that encompasses the whole island, and you have to solve it and the way you challenge the Leader is in segments too! Maybe this other Gym Leader has a traditional Gym but he appears outside of it all the time to help the player and get involved in the plot. Gyms and their Leaders are much more flexible than an evil team, which is always "Bad guys do bad things. What will they do this time? Stay tuned." If anything would be worth changing, it's the formula involving evil teams and their involvement in the plot--not the Gym Leaders. Because, if anything, being the ones central to the main conflict of the story, the villains as it stands are more integral than the Gym Leaders anyways. So the villains always being a variation of each other is way more repetitive and worth changing than the way the primary bosses are presented.

I'm willing to accept the fact that we may infact have no Gym Leaders this time around. For X/Y at this stage we already knew of Clemont, Viola and one of the other Gym Leaders, it just seems like they have an alternative plan for now. I wouldn't be in favour of no Gym Leaders but if it were to be the case I would be interested to see what would be the replacement.

Thinking evil team and leaders. However if there aren't gym leaders, I think chiefs or something like that could be involved to really capture the natural theme. Essentially the way life was before technology began taking over. It be an interesting concept to explore imo.

Grant was the other Gym Leader revealed at that time if you were wondering. But you know, I think that Alola having no Gym Leaders would tie in well with the focus on the theme of nature in the region, and could possibly mean Sun & Moon take place before technology started taking over.

If we're going by a literal sense, then Sun and Moon is not a prequel, because there's plenty of technology shown in the region (Pokémon Centers, vehicles, Pokeballs, etc.).

If the Pokemon Centers are an indication, then maybe Alola is a region that isn't very reliant on technology and that's likely why Gyms haven't been established before the protagonist arrives and creates the league themselves.

There's 8 shadowed figures on the top there in the image. I think those are most likely our Gym Leaders, or what may be the equivelant if they go by something else. We'll hear about them eventually just like the evil team, we just gotta be patient.

This is true. I think its going to be a new leader type thing. The biggest points I have against them being strictly gym leaders are these 3 things:

    1) Some of the names like Pablo or Ed are to generic. We usually get more unique ones. Doesn't mean to much though.

    2) Hau is listed there with his Japanese name. This implies he becomes a gym leader some time in your journey if they all are leaders. Which is odd and unlikely. But I actually think that be pretty cool. Maybe Lili gets a new role by the end and then you get to your role, which is champion or maybe an island guardian. By island guardian, I'm thinking Magearna could actually tie back to the man made island as it's guardian. However it disappeared long ago and with the QR code you are deemed the new guardian of the island by having it's guardian pokemon. It could be an add on to your role in the game if they go this route. It makes me think of Ruby Destiny Guardian signs which is a cool concept for the main games.

    3) Catlin is listed there. We don't see an important character's name used twice on a bigger NPC/important NPC character. Sure she could be demoted to Gym leader, but I think that as she says she'll likely be a champion if she comes back. Although this could take place before BW so it doesn't really deconfirm anything yet.

I do think the characters will be important though.

    Some problems with those counters:

    1. Actually have a good point here, but it's always possible that these names do have hidden meaning that we're just not looking into.

    2. Hau's Japan name is not Hoku, it's still Hau. Hoku was just the name of the kid in the trailer.

    3. The name Caitlin hasn't been used for an important character in Japanese yet.

Hmm, I'd actually argue Alola is highly attuned to technology. Not just due to advances such as the Rotom-Dex, but because one of the islands is confirmed to be 100% artificial. I'd imagine the place would have to be technologically advanced to pull that off.

I always did wonder why the name Hoku is listed there, but in the trailer, the character Hoku chose the starter weak to the one chosen by the Japanese boy (mimicking Hau's in-game behavior). But I do believe (hope) this is an indication that there will be some sort of Gym-esque system in play, even if they're under a new title/new coat of paint. The fact that there's 8 points at least to an homage, if not flat-out being Gym Leaders (with or without a new name).

The XY Hiker does confirm there's a Champion in Alola, so there has to be some sort of league in relation, at the very least.

Every single Japanese Gym Leader name I can think of is named after a plant or flower or foliage of some sort. But this isn't a tradition that has to be upheld, necessarily.

But the other points are already covered by clbgolden; Hau's Japanese name is Hau, and Caitlin's Japanese name is Katoreya.
