  • STILL A RUMOUR Made the article based on the weight of the (independetly made!) rumours and reputable sites, e.g. Serebii.net, acknowledging said rumours.

My personal feeling - legit, spinoff title and not gen 8.

Personal wishlist - not a remake of Yellow or whatnot and has good postgame, like say revisiting Johto and battle facilities/better online than SM/USUM. :V

  • Oh dear.

If this is true, then I hope Gamefreak is ready for a backlash greater than the Ultra Sun and Moon fiasco. Even as a spin off it feels off to me. Hopefully this is just rumour (or information about a spin off way in the future after the mainline switch games).

  • I really hope this isn't true. Bringing Pokémon Go mechanics in other games would be awful to me.

Seconded, there was a reason they canned that during SM development. If they do end up adding waggle controls, I really hope that they give us an option to disable it because I don't wanna break my arm throwing balls at a legendary.

As for the game itself, I have a really interesting feeling that this is going to be a Kanto reboot. I've said this before, but Kanto on its own has not aged very well, with FRLG as the most recent games with Kanto as the focus (HGSS was there, but Kanto wasn't the focus, and RBY VC are just emulations). If they go down that route, they really need to make the region stand out because it's a pretty bland region as it is, with nothing much like Mt. Chimney in Hoenn and Route 217 in Sinnoh. Maybe it could be kind of distant sequel, where well-known landmarks have been changed drastically and new locations have sprung up - that'll definitely breathe new life into an otherwise outdated region. And please, bring back the Sevii Islands, or at least attach Johto - Kanto can't stand on its own.

If this is true, then it's possible that this game is legitimately a spinoff. Which...is weird. Maybe a side game to keep people busy until gen 8 comes out? Though I'd have to wonder why you'd want to start your new game in an old region that's pretty bland. They would really have to do something really and I mean really special in order to gain my attention. Especially when this game is going to cost $60 and their are going to be 2 versions.

On the other hand this could be a good sign, meaning they're actually taking their time in making gen 8 good. I don't know about you guys but USUM left a sour taste in my mouth. So I really hope that if they do release a remake, they make it decent. And I hope they take their time to make the next gen better.

Eh not really feeling this idea at all.

After not finishing Ultra Sun, if this is true I might just give it a pass.

(Also I feel like they missed the boat on adding Pokemon Go compatibility in the main series, Go isn't nearly as popular now as it was a year or two ago)

  • A re-imaging of Yellow does not get me excited at all. A spin-off seems like an odd way to introduce your star franchise on a new console. Is Gamefreak developing this? Because they don't develop spin-offs, only main games.

Please be false! This killed my excitement immediately, lol.

  • The thing is, it's not a bad thing that these titles have us revisiting Kanto or whatever for the 100th time. It's just how they structure Kanto that really matters here. What time period is this going to take place in? How is Kanto going to be different (assuming it's going to be different at all)? These questions matter big time; if it's just the same ol' Kanto thats present in first gen and in FRLG, then I can't see this being a super convincing sell to people.

Pokemon GO mechanics are pretty much going to be hit or miss with people. If you don't/rarely play Go, you're not going to find this interesting or appealing. For those that do play Go, they might see the integration as a wise move. Either way though, it's not Go ported on the Switch, so it's not like your Switch is going to be your new phone or whatever and you have to use it to catch Pokemon, lol.

It seems rather likely, however, that Go may be integrated into the main series games. Why wouldn't Nintendo and Game Freak milk Go for all its popularity? Sure, you can make the argument that Go is less popular, but less popular does not mean dead, and Go still has a fair share of people playing it.

  • A remake of Yellow... Not what I wish for, but not the worst thing they could do...

However, adding Pokemon Go mechanics, THAT'S one of the worst thing they can do. I did not hate Pokemon Go, but it is not a main Pokemon game... It can't be...

I'm just gonna wait and see what comes in the coming days. Still too little confirmed information for me to bother to start forming thoughts about it.

Though I agree with Angie that another game set in Kanto is not necessarily an automatically bad thing, it depends on how they do it.

Another obviously greedy move by GF to revisit Kanto for nostalgia and to connect to the fad mobile game.

  • I think there's little reason to worry about GO things atm. Connectivity can be as simple as 'you can transfer Pokemon from GO into the games', and there's unused data in SM/USUM for noting a Pokemon has come from GO (plus this was talked about at E3 2016).

Reminder too that the Switch is both a handheld and home console; can't swipe on the screen GO-style when it's docked.

I did note that one rumour mentioned Pokemon following you is a returning feature. I would be very happy with that... and it would give more meaning to all those walking/running animations that exist for every Pokemon in gen 7 too that are largely unused. Atm they only feature for Pokemon in the overworld in USUM, and Pokemon in the Poke Finder spots.

  • Well, that's a buzz kill. I don't think we have to worry about the Go implementation, It'll probably be something like the Pokewalker with HGSS, a neat little feature for those who use it, but not necessary for the games.

The reason they canned it was due to technological issues. They apparently couldn't figure out how to link up Go with the Gen VII games...

Anyway, seems a lot of people are in denial about these being the Gen 8 games. If the titles are true, then I bet that these are the Gen 8 games. They haven't made paired spin-offs since the original Mystery Dungeon. Plus, GF appear to be involved in this as Masuda has been providing hints toward it and told fans who don't yet own a Switch to go buy one... And GF as we all know, GF usually doesn't advertise spin-offs...

  • Even though I'd like to take these titles as the grain of salt, I'm also intrigued by supposed titles like Let's Go! Pikachu/Eevee which somehow have some nice feel for me. This may be the kind of games that I'm interested at if this is real, but I'm also concerned at supposed Pokémon GO integration. I hope this would mean the 'mons that are caught in GO can be transferred to the game or something.
