Digital Warfare
In the distant future, virtual reality technology has evolved to all new levels and professional competitive gaming has evolved with it. Now where once people sat in front of screens, thousands flock to stadiums watch digital gladiators plug into powerful neurocomputers and transfer their very consciousness into digital arenas. Esports are now the most popular form of televised and live-viewed competitions by far. In a time of civil unrest, all struggles and differences can be put aside as society comes together to watch the spectacle of digital combat… or can they?
With the World Championships in their final stage, two teams of seven are about to find that's not necessarily the case. A malevolent third party has trapped them within the arena and this time they're playing for their lives. The only way to survive and escape is to defeat the other team.

Digital Combat and the Neurocomputers
Gladiators, as they are called, are plugged into a pod through a jack in the base of their neck and electrodes along their arms. These pods are connected to the neurocomputer which houses their consciousness during the game, transporting their minds into digital avatars that they can move as though they were their own bodies. Although no actual harm (usually) can occur to participants, their bodies feel actual sensations - including pain - from the conflict and this can put the body under a lot of stress if not properly trained. The digital arena constructed is different every time with each of its seven segments being allocated a type of terrain. Spectators can watch the combat live on a large 3D display above the computer as it cycles through the various competitors or follow specific gladiators on personal devices.
The game is over when only one team remains.
Gladiators
Gladiators have their consciousness transferred to a digital avatar with an appearance they design themselves and special Skills selected from an officially recognised pool. Each gladiator on a team belongs to a specific class with their abilities and weaponry reflecting that class. On a team, no two players can share the same class. The classes are as follows:Melee Classes
Knight: Knights are generally well-balanced fighters with their abilities spread quite evenly across offence, defence and agility. They typically wield bladed melee weapons like swords or polearms.
Brawler: Brawlers are unique among the various melee classes in that they prefer to fight unarmed. They have low defences but good agility and physical strength that makes them skilled martial artists.
Assassin: Assassins are generally low in both offensive power and defences but have extremely high agility and nasty Skills that hinder the opponent or accrue damage over time. Assassins are a speciality class, meaning there is a Skill they always carry. In this case, Camouflage, which allows them to blend into their surroundings for a while and become harder to see.
Bruiser: Bruisers are tanks. They're slow moving but can take hits well and dish that damage back out. They usually fight with weapons like axes, hammers or maces and tend to be more heavily armoured than others.
Berserkers: Berserkers are a unique speciality class with all of them carrying the Berserk Mode Skill. They begin battle with stats akin to those of a Bruiser but when activating their Berserk Mode switch, minimising their defences and maxing out their offences and agility. The more damage they have sustained, the more powerful their Berserk Mode.
Ranged Classes
Shooters: Shooters are the ranged equivalent of Knights. They have very evenly spread abilities and have little subtlety to them, preferring to engage the opponent head on - albeit from a distance. They can be seen wielding more archaic weapons like bows or crossbows or firearms.
Snipers: Snipers have all around low stats generally speaking. However, Snipers have the greatest range and accuracy of any of the classes preferring to take shots at the enemy from a great distance and out of harm's way. They are a speciality class with all Snipers possessing the Critical Shot skill that gives them a one-off attack with enormous damage output before it has to be recharged over time.
Artillery: The ranged equivalent of Bruisers, these guys are tanky but slow moving with poor agility. They generally carry big, hefty ranged weapons which have slow fire rates but heavy damage output. These weapons are usually things like RPGs or BFGs (heh) but it's not unheard of to see them pushing around a catapult or ballista.
Bombardiers: This class is similar to the Assassin in that they have extremely low offence and defence but very high agility. Something that sets them apart is that rather than carrying a single weapon, these guys usually have an entire arsenal of explosives that can be thrown or set as traps.
Mage Classes
Black Mage: Like all mages, Black Mages have generally low stats but possess additional Skill slots and generally powerful Skills. Black mages focus on offensive abilities with a high damage output.
White Mage: White mages are the opposite of Black Mages with their abilities tending to be reactionary or defensive. They are a speciality class that always possess the Heal Skill which can recover the health of themselves or allies with the recovery growing over the time the ability is in effect. As the only class that can possess this skill, the are also often the first casualties in a game.
Summoner: Summoners are possibly the most unique class as they generally rely on summoning minions to fight for them instead of directly engaging in combat themselves. Each minion they can summon takes up a Skill slot with other Skills generally being used to support their minions. Weak minions can be summoned in multiples but strong minions can only be summoned one at a time.
Wild Mage: Wild Mages are extremely unpredictable and versatile. They are a speciality class with the Wildshape Skill that allows them to shape shift into different animal or monster forms with different (albeit simplistic) abilities. Each Wildshape they have access to takes up a Skill slot. Untransformed Skills are also unpredictable as by nature they have randomised power levels having the potential to be monstrously powerful, pitifully weak or anything in between on any given use.
