  • Yeah, too much for me. Probably too late for trains to meadowbank even. @_@

    I caught a Vulpix! I bet you're jealous. =p
No, no, 1pm, the 'are you playing pokemon go' message time. =p I like my sleep. :V

I did, was decent exercise. (No karate for me this week as the dojo is closed! :<) I am... level 13 now. Yourself?
Trying is a good start. =) I wouldn't know how everyone else's physics research works!

It went alright, needed to look at my notes better for setup though but someone was on hand to help out anyway. Had some radio frequency interference throughout (that's bad), but I may have lucked out with it not being at the few MHz I was most interested in (that's good!). Now I spend the next week being the support person for a telescope while editing a paper and adjusting a presentation for a talk next month.
It's nowhere near as shiny but it does have some things like a whole bunch of optical equipment and underground lasers. :B

I'm fine. Gave a short talk at the conference I mentioned, and next week being a support person for a telescope. This weekend I have a free Saturday, but Sunday heading up the coast to visit family and Monday observing from a telescope through my laptop. That was going to happen Tuesday but my proposal got shifted to the public holiday. >_>
I see. Still we were pretty close regardless (both on the same side of campus, haha).

You never answered my question last month btw. =p
Cool! Did that happen today or this week?

Our department (astrophysics) moved back to main campus, but we're in renovated rooms in the old Physics building next to it. I've done tutoring in the Nanoscience building this semester as well.

But this week I've mostly been in Eastern Avenue for a week-long conference.
It's a good thing, and not important to the thesis but a nice thing that'l be useful nonetheless.
It possibly is. =) Got to submit abstracts for talks and get things in motion but I have time for it.

Found out today I get to use a telescope for my very own research proposal. :)
also you are the only person on my pc friends list who has never been staff lol
Yeah, it's nice enough for us.

Correct. Could use some more information being made available about some of these conferences however...
Turns out we are to sign a year lease next week! \o/

It's more that each source offers $X rather than Y trips given they can vary in cost. Each with their own conditions as well.
I am sometimes rather slow to respond to VMs too...

I've done some work today! ;p

I suppose it does depend on the landlord. We'll have to wait and see I suppose! In the meantime we will remain the best tenants. :B

Well, sometimes ages and sometimes less so, but for the organising/hosting side it always takes forever. I've already did a bit of looking, including some yesterday/today because people start to update info. [There's a useful site for this, but most are not for my field of research.] The uni does pay for flights and accommodation! Mind you, there's a limit to how much funding you can get, but I am probably luckier than most students as I have access to a few different sources, e.g. CSIRO [& Space Science] as I'm co-supervised by them! Any other trips outside of conferences would be out of my pocket, but that's fine if the flight out and to Australia is paid for. =)
I've been waiting for you to reply since last year! :V

Working from home today actually! Certainly a perk. =) Both my supervisors aren't around this week, so might as well save myself train trips when I can do stuff here. Either way, plugging laptop into another monitor is pretty easy with how I have it set up, no shuffling required.

I've heard someone else in that arrangement, and others with the lease extensions. *shrug* We'll see. Would rather a lease myself for the next year, going to take longer than that with the thesis at least.

Teaching others how to solve problems then, I see.

Depends when they get announced/I find out about them! After than it's figuring out if it's worthwhile, registering/applying for talks, arranging travel and etc via the uni. Last time I found out about a conference in a casual conversation in December, and only had stuff sorted I think in Feb...? (it was in America mid-March). Went to another in Melbourne with arrangements started/completed within a month from the conference, so it can be short notice.
