Would you prefer slower releases?

Would you prefer slower releases for potential of higher quality, or are you okay with the current schedule of games produced?

I had that thought today. It's pretty insane knowing Gen 10 could be feasible or on the horizon.

Personally I think the games are still fun, but new releases don't feel quite so special because of how common they are.

To answer the posted question simply, yes.

Yes. Will not make any substantial changes after release. Must catch weak areas of the game prior to then. Take an extra year and tighten up the play experience. Wait an extra two or even three, if you need it. Watch what your playtesters do and how they react. Did they try to enter a building? What mechanics or features did they ignore, and why? Is there a way to improve what players are already doing?

No, I don't want slower releases. I want releases that occur at the regular pace, but still with better quality.

I'd absolutely prefer slower releases of mainline games and remakes, but I'd prefer we get more spinoffs in-between releases. We used to get so much creative stuff back in the DS era like the Ranger and Mystery Dungeon series, and those spinoffs have dropped off ever since development moved to the Switch.

Been wanting that for some time. There tends to be a relationship between the quality of work done and the time spent/allowed to do the work, and mainline Pokemon games for generations have been proving that true, especially considering that we're talking about the driver of one of the most successful franchises in history. What we see happen isn't because of budget or talent issues--it's Pokemon, it can get just about whatever budget and personnel it desires.

And personally, I can wait longer for stuff to come out, not just for Pokemon, but in general. I can keep myself occupied game-wise for long enough that I don't need console generations to be short or for game series to be putting something out so frequently. except for the Elden Ring DLC please release that shit already lol

Yes, they quite clearly needed an extra year or two of development time for the newer releases.

Slower releases, please. I am not going to lie - I still do really enjoy all the Pokémon games that come out, even those I like the least. But I really want the series to have quality games and what we're getting lately is just not it. I want detailed visuals that don't look like they're from the PS2, smoother framerates, and less bugs. I also just want their team not to be super overworked which is most important, and if they need another year or two (or more) to polish the games without overworking I am so so for it.

I want Game Freak to stay the way they are and release Pokemon games yearly far too many people gave unfair reviews to Scarlet & Violet which are absolutely amazing games they don't deserve the negativity that they have gotten same with Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl and Sword & Shield, I know many fans liked Legends Arceus I didn't like the game at all it felt nothing like a Pokemon game and the story was boring it strayed way too far from the classic formula (if it ain't broke don't fix it) and in my opinion its the worst game in the franchise I really do not want another Legends game at all, I enjoyed Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl so much more than Legends Arceus.


Yes I do admit that Scarlet & Violet have bugs and glitches but so does every game ever release there is not one single game that has ever been released bug free and as long as a game is playable and you are able to complete it then why worry and to be perfectly honest I think the patches have greatly improved Scarlet & Violet the save deleting bug that occurred in the 1.2.0 patch was fixed in the 1.3.0 patch, some fans think they can make better games when they actually couldn't.

If it means better quality games, yes. From the perspective of someone who no longer has the faith to go in to a Pokemon game sight unseen anymore, I look at it this way: Release date for a particular game means nothing to me if said game is so bad I don't even bother picking it up.

I can go for long periods of time without buying a new Pokemon game. I've done it before - I went six years after X/Y's release (2013) without buying a Pokemon game before giving Sw/Sh a try (2019) - and I'll do it again if the releases don't warrant my attention. There's always something else to play.

If it's a simple A or B choice of "slower releases, better quality" or "faster releases, lower quality", then yeah, I'd prefer them to be a few years apart, but the big thing is just how much is put into those releases. A quick development time doesn't always equal a bad game, it's just very common. Majora's Mask is the prime example I think of.

If it's purely about too many games coming out too quickly, and not being able to find the time for them, I honestly agree with that too. I think the DLCs help with that, extending the lifespan of the games we already have rather than making us buy new ones, and I think each generation has always had a fairly healthy length (Ruby and Sapphire released 3 years after Gold and Silver, Scarlet and Violet released 3 years after Sword and Shield) but I do wish each generation could stay longer to make it feel a lot more impactful when the next generation is revealed. This is absolutely just because I was a kid but I remember that Gen IV felt like it was relevant for a long time, and that the announcement of Gen V was exciting because it felt like something new after so long. I'd love to get that feeling genuinely, after a generation that last maybe something like 4 or 5 years, because I think people would be a lot more positive about it.

Oh! And if we do see a Gen X announcement anytime soon, I'd like for it to be on whatever the new console is, I think I'm satisfied with how mainline Pokemon has been on the Switch, and I'd like to see them take the time to keep enhancing the best parts of Gen IX.
