Java's not too bad, I would read up on some tuts online. My jiff with java is that it can be a little weird and it is sloooooooooooooow

Rom hacking is mainly lower level stuff so it won't aid much but it does help you understand how a computer actually kind of works if you get pretty into it. I was never doing assembly because ohmygod no but yeah.
